NFL Top 100: Seahawks QB Sam Darnold makes debut at No. 72, faces Cardinals twice
Last week, the NFL had its third week of revealing players in the "NFL Top 100." After two players were revealed on Monday and another on Tuesday the Arizona Cardinals will face in 2025, a fourth was revealed later in the week, one who will see the Cardinals twice in 2025. On Friday, a fifth, also someone in the NFC West was revealed at No. 72.
That would be Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, who played last season for the Minnesota Vikings.
It was his career debut in the top 100.
He became the first starting quarterback ever to win 14 games in his first year with the team.
Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, Darnold's teammate in 2024, said that Darnold throws the ball "effortlessly."
"Just a flick of the wrist and it's traveling 60 yards," he said. He also said that his "deep-throw accuracy is phenomenal."
Former Vikings teammate safety Cam Bynum joked that players like to call Darnold Sammy Vick, pointing out how athletic he is.
Now in Seattle with a different group of skill players, he will face the Cardinals twice. He beat them last season with the Vikings, throwing two touchdown passes, including the game-winner with 1:13 left in the game for a 23-22 win.
The Cardinals will face Darnold and the Seahawks in Weeks 4 and 10 in 2025.

Miami Dolphins' Bayron Matos airlifted to hospital after training camp injury
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos suffered an undisclosed injury at the end of Wednesday's practice and was flown to a hospital on a helicopter. The injury happened in the final minutes of Day 1 of the Dolphins' training camp. Matos, a second-year offensive tackle, was airlifted in stable condition, the team said. The Dolphins did not release information on the injury. 'It's a really heartbreaking part of the game,' said Dolphins offensive lineman Austin Jackson. 'Very tough.' Matos, born in Los Mina, Santo Domingo, went undrafted in 2024 but signed with the Dolphins as a free agent through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program — an initiative that gives athletes from countries outside the U.S. a chance to play in the NFL. He spent time on Miami's practice squad over the past year before signing a reserve/future contract in January. He has not played in an NFL game. A two-sport athlete in basketball and baseball in his youth, Matos, 24, only started playing football in 2022. He walked on to the South Florida football team in 2022 with no prior experience. ___ AP NFL: Alanis Thames, The Associated Press

What Ty Simpson feels Alabama football fans should know about him
Ty Simpson came into Alabama football with dreams to leave a legacy, with aspirations for the NFL. And heading into his fourth season with the program, the Alabama quarterback feels he can still do both. "I think my journey has been like no other, to say the least," Simpson said in a video posted on social media by QB Reps July 22. Simpson is set to enter Alabama's fall camp as the leader in the Crimson Tide's quarterback race, competing for snaps with redshirt sophomore Austin Mack and freshman Keelon Russell. "When I get on the field, Alabama fans should know that I'm going to do everything it takes to win," Simpson said. "So I'm going to make sure I'm the toughest guy on the field. I'm going to make sure I win. I'm going to make sure I know everything that's coming. I'm going to get the guys around me the ball." Simpson, a five-star quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class out of Martin, Tennessee, backed up Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe in his first three seasons with the Crimson Tide. With Alabama, Simpson has completed 29 of his 50 career pass attempts for 381 yards. While he does not have a collegiate passing touchdown, Simpson has three rushing touchdowns on 22 carries. Alabama opens its 2025 season Aug. 30 against Florida State. Colin Gay covers Alabama football for The Tuscaloosa News, part of the USA TODAY Network. Dolphins OT airlifted to hospital, in stable condition after training camp practice
Miami Dolphins second-year offensive tackle Bayron Matos was transported via helicopter to the hospital and is in stable condition after suffering an injury in a Wednesday training camp practice, the team told reporters. Details of the injury and the circumstances that caused it aren't yet known. Matos, 24, is a Dominican Republic-native who joined the Dolphins last year as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. The 6'7 lineman played collegiate basketball for New Mexico and South Florida. During his time at USF, Matos walked on to the football team, but played just 22 total snaps with the team. But Matos caught the eye of NFL scouts last spring when the 313-pound tackle ran a 4.88 40-yard dash. After joining the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, Matos spent his entire rookie season on the team's practice squad. While the Dolphins have a pair of starting offensive tackles in Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson, Matos is one of several linemen, along with Larry Borom, Jackson Carman, and Kion Smith competing for reserve roles at tackle.
