Wimbledon Investors Turn 75% Profit Trading Access to VIP Seats

Bloomberg2 days ago
For two weeks every summer, the Centre Court at Wimbledon is where fans can watch the best tennis players in the sport's most prestigious amphitheater. For some of the most expensive ticket holders, it's not even worth attending.
That's because owning so-called debentures – a guaranteed seat on Centre Court or No. 1 Court for a five-year stretch – has become so profitable that many are choosing to treat them as a tradeable asset, selling them on for a significant profit.

Brierley Hill pub announces reopening with new landlord at helm

A Brierley Hill pub will re-open this weekend with the new landlord sharing big plans' for its future. The Black Horse on Delph Road will open its doors once more on Saturday (July 5) and landlord Mitchell Gatsby is inviting the local community to come along to show their support. The pub closed in April after the previous owners said wasn't 'enough trade to keep the doors open'. It dates back to 1834 and now begins a new chapter with bar manager Nikki Shaw at front of house. The 42-year-old has lots of pub experience, but this will be her first time in a management role. Nicky said: "We want to get the local community involved and make it somewhere people can come and have a laugh and enjoy themselves." Mitchell opened micropub The Beer Bank on Quarry Bank High Street in 2023, but has since sold it, making The Black Horse his only pub now. On social media, Mitchell posted: "We've got big plans for The Black Horse - kicking off with our grand opening party on July 5. "Expect good vibes, proper pub grub, family fun, and a DJ that promises to get your nan dancing. "Oh and foodies, listen up… we'll be firing up a weekend carvery very soon. "That's right, Yorkshire puddings, roasties, the works. "So come on down, support local, and see what's new. "The Black Horse rides again… and this time, it's got a Mitch in the saddle." There will be face painting, a bouncy castle, lots of street food at relaunch which starts at noon and runs until closing time.

Rob Thomson Gives Worrying Update on Phillies' Andrew Painter Plan

Rob Thomson Gives Worrying Update on Phillies' Andrew Painter Plan originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies have arguably the best pitching prospect in the world with Andrew Painter. Unfortunately, Painter has dealt with some injuries, and he's still recovering from elbow surgery. Advertisement The Phillies decided that he won't pitch in the All-Star Futures game, but the hope is for him to eventually make his big league debut. "We will keep him on our plan," manager Rob Thomson said Monday, per ESPN. "There's nothing that says he's coming up here at all. He's got to be healthy. He's got to be pitching well. We've said that all along." Despite the plan for him to throw sometime after the All-Star break, when asked about the situation on Wednesday, Thomson didn't exactly sound like it's certain that he'll be called up in the near future. Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson (59) makes a pitching change against the Atlanta Braves in the sixth inning at Truist Davis-Imagn Images He was asked if the Phillies still believe he won't be with them prior to the All-Star break. Advertisement "Yes," Thomson said, per On Pattison. When asked if there's any flexibility on that, Thomson was unsure. "I don't think so," Thomson said. It's somewhat concerning that the Phillies are being stubborn about the situation. However, they're doing it in the best interest of Painter in their mind. The last thing they want is for the hard-throwing right-hander to get injured, and he only has 161.1 innings pitched under his belt in the minors. Yes, he had an injury that kept him out for two years, but 161.1 Innings isn't exactly ideal. In Triple-A this year, he hasn't been as dominant as some were hoping for, posting a 4.24 ERA and only 45 strikeouts in 40.1 innings.
