'He said there was an exchange of words and then they were suddenly set upon by the group. The group fled after the attack and he and Chan ran to a nearby shopping centre for help. He said Chan collapsed in the corridor on the fifth floor of the shopping centre. Police have seized a bent barbecue fork believed to have been used in the attack on the two.'

On January 17, 1986, the Post followed up, writing that 'a theatre usher who was involved in a fight 5 ½ years ago which resulted in the death of a teenager was yesterday sentenced to 12 months in jail'.

'Chan Kam-kei, 23, pleaded guilty before Mr Justice Barnes to one count of manslaughter and one of wounding with intent. He was sentenced to 12 months for killing Chan Wai-tak, 16, and three months for wounding Mr Li Man-ching, 18, on May 9, 1980. The sentences are to run concurrently. His counsel, Mr Andrew Macrae, submitted in mitigation that Chan came from a hard-working family. He was a man of good character marred with one minor offence of assault over a very trivial matter when he was only 19 […] Chan was now a hardworking and responsible young man and was no longer a member of a triad gang, he said.'

Hong Kong actor and model Jacky Heung is being sued by a Macau casino operator for allegedly racking up at least HK$1.4 million (US$178,000) in gambling debts following a visit to the gaming hub last December. Advertisement In a writ filed with the Hong Kong District Court, MGM Grand Paradise said Heung had borrowed HK$2 million on December 1, 2024, from the operator of the MGM Macau and MGM Cotai casino hotels and converted the money into betting chips. Under the terms of the loan, Heung was required to repay it on the same day. But the company alleged that the 40-year-old actor had only paid back some of the money and still owed the casino HK$1.4 million. The contract also stated that the casino could charge an annual interest of 18 per cent on Heung's loan until the date of repayment. Man, 88, found dead in Hong Kong flat, semi-conscious wife hospitalised
An 88-year-old man who was ill was found dead and his wife hospitalised after their two daughters discovered the couple passed out at their home in Hong Kong's North Point and called police. Police said on Tuesday that officers were alerted at 1.55am by a woman who found her parents unconscious in the bedroom of their flat in Lai Tak Tsuen in North Point. According to police, the woman had tried calling her parents but had failed to reach them. It prompted her to visit their home, but no one answered the door. Her sister then came with a key and opened the flat's door. They found the couple in the bedroom and called police. The man was certified dead at the scene, while his wife, 78, was semi-conscious and sent to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for treatment, police said. The force said the man had a history of illness, adding that the cause of his death would be determined after an autopsy.
