Orange alert: Heavy rain & high waves for Goa
Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for July 22, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of North and South Goa. The IMD also forecasted moderate to heavy spells of rain and strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50kmph, gusting up to 60kmph in inland areas and along the coast. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea, particularly along and off the South Maharashtra-Goa coasts, until July 25. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a high wave alert for the Goan coast. From Chapora to Panaji (Malim) in North Goa, and from Santarem Point (Vasco) to Kolamb in South Goa, rough sea conditions with waves up to 3.5m height are expected. The alert remains valid until 8:30 p.m. on July 23. INCOIS has advised caution during marine operations or recreational activity near shorelines. As monsoon clouds gathered on Monday, downpours brought 52.6mm of rainfall to Panaji and 55mm of rainfall to Mopa from 8.30am to 5.30pm. As of this date, Goa has recorded 65 inches of total rainfall since June 1.

The incident took place near the Kangchenjunga Glacier, which is waterlogged every year during the monsoon. A video shows two-wheelers and four-wheelers trying to wade through the sludge-filled flooded road. Two to three people were seen pushing an MUV with a woman and a driver sitting inside the car. A truck also got stuck on the road. Uttarakhand has been witnessing heavy rainfall since the start of this month, causing many landslides and road blockages. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red' alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand today. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, the weather office also predicted lightning accompanied with strong winds in some areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. All schools from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun remained shut today. An 'orange' alert for heavy rainfall has been issued in some parts of Dehradun and Uttarkashi districts on July 22. The IMD has also sent letters to the district magistrates directing them to remain on alert and take necessary precautions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for multiple Telangana districts for Tuesday (July 22). An orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, was issued for 18 districts. And, a yellow alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall, was issued for 12 districts. Districts under orange alert According to the IMD's latest bulletin, the orange alert covers isolated places in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet and Kamareddy districts. Yellow alert The yellow alert was issued for Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at isolated places across all 33 districts. Hyderabad and its surrounding areas For Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a generally cloudy sky. 'Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, with occasional intense spells at a few places, is very likely towards evening or night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 31 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively,' as per the IMD bulletin.
