Lauren James' salary compared to Chelsea star brother's after nail-biting Euro 2025 win

Daily Mirror28-07-2025
Lauren James was a key player for England in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 campaign, which resulted in a stunning win against Spain in Switzerland on Sunday
Lauren James and her older brother, Reece James, made history as the first brother and sister to earn senior caps for England in 2022. The superstar siblings, who also play for Chelsea, have made their mark in the sports world in a seismic way with an impressive haul of silverware.

Lauren, known as L.J., 23, was a key player for England in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 campaign, resulting in a stunning win against champions Spain on Sunday. Meanwhile, Reece, 25, is one of the Premier League's most recognisable figures. The Chelsea men's star has his own array of trophies, including the Champions League, Club World Cup and Conference League, but he's yet to snap up any silverware with the senior international team.

Despite their string of successes, there is huge pay disparity between the siblings. Lioness Lauren is said to rake in a hefty £350,000 per year with the reigning WSL champions and is believed to be worth around £1.8million with sponsorship deals to bolster her income, with brands like Beats by Dre, Sure and Nike backing her.

The England Women's squad is also said to be sharing £1.75million after their stunning win in Switzerland on Sunday.
However, under his current contract at Stamford Bridge, Reece reportedly earns a jaw-dropping £250,000 on a weekly basis, while his annual salary scales up to a staggering £13million.

With both siblings donning Chelsea and England colours, Lauren is keenly aware of their familial ties, but has vowed to establish her individual identity as she points out that men's football still has a "much bigger profile".
In an interview with the BBC ahead of the Women's World Cup in 2023, she said: "Even just, 'That's Lauren James, that's Reece's sister.' But I want to carve out [my own name] and be known as, 'This is Lauren James.'
"At the moment, men's football has a lot bigger profile and I'm sure there are times when I've said, 'Oh, that's so and so's sister,' I think it's just natural. But it doesn't bother me too much because I know I have my own career."

However, reflecting on their incredible achievements, she said "From the outside, it is a bit like 'wow', but from our point of view, it is difficult to take it in. We are just both on our own paths and looking to enjoy our football.
"Both of us are supportive of each other, where I will go to his games and he will go to my games when he can. We kind of leave each other to it though. Anything to do with football, we both know what we need to do so we just leave the other one to it."

Liverpool make final transfer decision on Marc Guehi after two bids rejected

Marc Guehi remains a Crystal Palace player for now but Premier League champions Liverpool are admirers of the England centre-back and have attempted two transfer bids Liverpool have no plans to return with a third Marc Guehi bid after seeing two approaches rebuffed, it has been claimed. Crystal Palace have been playing hardball over their captain, with England star Guehi one of a number of in-demand Eagles stars. ‌ Palace appear determined to keep hold of as many senior figures as possible as they gear up for a European campaign. Ebere Eze remains a target for Arsenal, while plenty of clubs are known to be fans of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Liverpool aren't the only admirers of Guehi. ‌ Newcastle and Tottenham made efforts to sign the defender last summer, but he stayed at Selhurst Park and helped Palace win the FA Cup. Guehi is in the final year of his contract, but that hasn't seen his team entertain a sale on the cheap. ‌ According to Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness), Palace still want close to £48m for their skipper. Neither of Liverpool's two offers have hit that mark, and the Reds are now said to be ready to look at alternative targets. Arne Slot's side do still need bodies at centre-back, having sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. Ibrahima Konate has yet to agree an extension to his current deal, which expires next summer, while Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have just two years left on their respective deals. Palace and Liverpool are due to face off in Sunday's Community Shield, after winning the FA Cup and Premier League respectively last term. The match will provide a chance for Guehi to remind the league champions of his quality, though he is not expected to look to force a move away. Oliver Glasner's side geared up for the match with a double header against Augsburg, winning one meeting and losing te other. Liverpool also had a double header at the start of the month, winning both games against Athletic Club at Anfield. 'The guys are in top shape; they obviously know the drills. That makes it easy," Palace boss Glasner said after his team's final friendly. "Now it's just a matter of getting match-fit. That's why they needed 90 minutes of exercise in their legs. ‌ 'We actually had another friendly match planned… but now we have a Community Shield against Liverpool instead! But of course, we're happy to take that. You could say it could be worse!" Liverpool boss Slot has been impressed with the Reds' new arrivals as they look to make up for the departure of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold. "We've lost with Trent a lot of creativity from the back," he said after the Athletic friendlies. "Trent's crosses and picking out runners was so special – I think Flo [Florian Wirtz] has this quality as well in a totally different position. But he brings that creativity, the pace of Hugo [Ekitike], the pace of both full-backs – Milos [Kerkez] and Jeremie [Frimpong] today."

Chelsea star set to join Borussia Dortmund in £22m permanent transfer move

Carney Chukwuemeka is 'set to join' Borussia Dortmund in a £22m permanent transfer move from Chelsea, according to reports. Dortmund have been in talks with Chelsea all summer for the 21-year-old and originally wanted to sign the player on another loan deal, having had him at the Westfalenstadion for the second half of the 2024-25 season. Chelsea, though, were only interested in a permanent sale and it appears the west London club have now got the job done with a move agreed. That's according to French journalist Sebastien Vidal, who reports that Chukwuemeka is now set to join the German club in a deal worth £22m. Chukwuemeka has made a total of 32 appearances for Chelsea since he joined the Blues from Aston Villa in a £20m deal two years ago. But he was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and is now set to link up with fellow English player Jobe Bellingham at Dortmund. Vidal also claims that Bundesliga side Dortmund are interested in signing three more Chelsea players in the summer transfer window. Tyrique George, Chelsea's 19-year-old winger, is one of the three stars believed to be on Dortmund's radar. George came through Chelsea's academy and has made 26 appearances to date, conjuring up three goals and five assists. The other two Chelsea players Dortmund are keen on are Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi. Veiga, 22, only signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea in July 2024 but has already been put up for sale. Chelsea are also open to selling 27-year-old centre-back Disasi, who spent time on loan at Villa last season. Meanwhile, Manchester United's plan to sell Jadon Sancho has taken a blow with Dortmund reportedly getting cold feet over a transfer. More Trending Sancho spent time on loan at Chelsea last season, registering five goals and 10 assists in 41 games for the Blues. Chelsea looked set to sign Sancho permanently – but ultimately decided to pay a £5m fee to cancel their obligation to buy. Sancho has already had two spells at Dortmund and had been tipped for a third stint with the German side. Nico Raskin in bizarre Rangers booking while warming up as yellow card sparks on air confusion

The Belgian wasn't in the starting XI and was booked for a seemingly innocuous off-the-ball moment Nico Raskin was booked for dissent in Rangers ' clash with Viktoria Plzen for a seemingly innocuous off-the ball incident – when he wasn't even playing. ‌ And it sparked a perplexed reaction from co-commentator Steven Thompson after Raskin himself was left in disbelief. ‌ Rangers were leading the Champions League third qualifying round first leg 1-0 thanks to Djeidi Gassama's opener when the bizarre moment, which left the BBC's commentary team astonished, took place. ‌ Experienced whistler Clement Turpin briefly stopped play on 31 minutes when he was called over by the fourth official and brandished a yellow card in the direction of Raskin, who, alongside his skipper James Tavernier, had been dropped by Russell Martin. The midfielder was amazed at the decision and replays could only conjure up a seemingly harmless moment where away defender Sampson Dweh went to retrieve the ball, and Raskin touched him on the shoulder. After TV cameras showed a confused Raskin walking away, Thompson asked: "What's he done to get a yellow there? Deary me. I'd like to know why he was booked..." The TV coverage later stated it was given for dissent – but couldn't clarify which incident had been identified. Commentator Liam McLeod then said, after a bit of digging, that it was for "delaying the play" but Thompson was adamant: "He didn't do that." ‌ Whistler Turpin, who took charge of the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid three years ago - is no stranger to officiating matches involving Rangers. That same season, he officiated the Ibrox side's sensation 4-2 win away to Borussia Dortmund on their way to the UEFA Cup final. He was also in charge for Rangers' Champions League hammering at home to Liverpool, and their qualifier against PSV Eindhonve in the same competition when the sides drew 2-2.
