BHUBANESWAR: In a concerning development on Monday morning, the
account of the Higher Education Department was compromised by hackers. The breach resulted in the posting of content unrelated to the department's activities.
However, swift action by the department ensured the account was quickly retrieved, and the unauthorized posts were removed.
An official statement from the department confirmed the incident, stating, "Immediate steps were taken to regain control of the Instagram account. The department successfully restored the account and removed the unrelated content." In response to the breach, the department decided to take the matter seriously and will be filing a First Information Report (FIR) to initiate a formal investigation.
In a similar incident, the official website of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack also fell victim to hackers. Visitors to the university's website are currently greeted with a page displaying 'HostGator,' rather than the expected university-related content. As of now, the university authorities have not issued any statement regarding the breach or the steps being taken to address the issue.

The police are trying to trace his exact location. According to Kerala Kaumudi, when questioned informally about the act, Shajeer allegedly said, 'Cat meat tastes better than human meat." Authorities are still trying to establish where the video was filmed. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation. Under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, killing or maiming an animal is a punishable offence. The new law, part of the overhaul that replaced the Indian Penal Code, clearly states that anyone who kills, poisons, or renders an animal useless can face up to five years in jail, a fine, or both. The act may also attract charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, which lays down additional penalties for causing unnecessary pain or suffering to animals. While extreme cases of consuming pets are rare in India, this is not an isolated incident. In Chennai, residents in July 2025 sounded the alarm over a group of youths from the Narikorava community allegedly trapping and killing residential cats for meat, later selling it to roadside eateries as chicken or mutton biryani, according to a report by the Times Of India. CSP operator shot at in Samastipur, over Rs 1 lakh looted
Patna: Armed miscreants shot at an SBI customer service point (CSP) operator and looted Rs 1.25 lakh from an SBI customer service point (CSP) at Malinagar village under Chakmahesi police station area in Samastipur district on Monday. The CSP operator, Manish Kumar, was shot in the right thigh while he was attempting to catch hold of the fleeing robbers, police said. Chakmahesi SHO, Santosh Kumar Yadav, said: "The robbers fired shots while fleeing, injuring the CSP operator. The stolen amount is approximately Rs 1.25 lakh," he said. Yadav said the initial inquiry from the victim revealed that the incident occurred around 1pm when two masked men, posing as customers, entered the CSP on two separate motorcycles. As they approached the counter, they brandished pistols and demanded money. "After seizing the cash from the counter, the robbers attempted to escape. In a bid to stop them, Manish hurled a hammer at the robbers, but it missed the target. In retaliation, the robbers opened fire, hitting Kumar in the thigh," he said. One of the robbers' motorcycles could not start so they escaped on a bike.
