A fearless father jumped off a Disney cruise ship when his daughter fell overboard Sunday — miraculously grabbing her and then treading water for around 20 minutes until they were rescued.
The Disney Dream ship was heading from Florida to the Bahamas when an alert suddenly boomed, 'Mr MOB … port side!' referring to 'man overboard,' video of the drama shows.
'A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her,' fellow passenger Kevin Furuta posted on Facebook.
Other tense vacationers watched as a bright yellow rescue boat was lowered into the water and eventually made its way to where the dad and daughter were bobbing in the Atlantic as they were drifting off.
The dad spent around 20 minutes in the sea holding his daughter — who appeared to be about 5 — before they were both pulled to safety, according to online posts.
'Lots of praying folks on this ship!' posted passenger Dewayne Smith, who also reported that the 'little girl fell overboard and her dad jumped overboard to try to save her.'
'Both the little girl and dad were both successfully rescued.'
It was not immediately clear how the girl fell into the ocean.
The fourth deck of the ship is one of the lowest publicly accessible platforms, likely fewer than 50 feet above the waterline.
It contains bars, a theater and an outdoor jogging track, according to a plan on the Disney Cruise Line website.
The deck is open-air, although its railings are chest-height to an adult, or higher than most kids' heads.
The railings also have plexiglass panels to prevent climbing on their bars.
Disney Cruise Line confirmed that its crew 'swiftly rescued two guests from the water.
'We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes,' a rep told USA Today in a statement.
'We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.'
Disney cruise liners each are equipped with an overboard detection system that alerts the ship's crew to people tumbling from the vessel into the sea in real time.

People are only just learning what the ‘Disney Hug Rule' is

If there's anything that can heal your inner child, it's watching compilations online of kids hugging their favourite characters at Disneyland. They really get you every time, but if you look closely, you might notice a familiar pattern – the Disney character will keep hugging the child until they break off the hug. While it's not an officially mandated rule (although many others exist … more on that later), it's an informal guideline that many Disney theme park staff have embraced, so it's now become a standard practice. The adorable guideline helps ensure that the child feels their beloved character isn't pulling away. According to the Disney fan site Inside the Magic, the practice dates back to Walt Disney himself, who apparently said, 'You never know how much that child may need that hug.' TikTok features countless videos of this rule in action, including one heartwarming clip from @flickdash, showing a montage of kids hugging the characters for as long as they wish, and the characters patiently hold on until they let go. In another clip by @mccallcook, liked by 3.3 million people, a girl called Hazel is seen running up to Anna from Frozen and refusing to 'Let It Go' for more than two minutes. The character is seen chatting with Hazel and asking her questions endlessly until her parents finally manage to guide her away. 'I THINK SHE BROKE THE RECORD WHAT DO YOU THINK?' Hazel's mum wrote in the caption. 'I think Hazie would've sat there all day long if there wasn't a line behind us.' In the comments, people were getting teary over the adorable moment. 'This is so pure and innocent,' said one. 'I'm sorry, but how do you not break down crying every time this happens?' another asked. However, some wondered whether the parents should've stepped in to break the hug sooner and let another child have their turn. 'As a parent, I would have stopped it earlier,' said one. 'The parents should know that the hug went on for way too long as they put the Disney worker in an awkward position,' added someone else. Other official rules at the parks include that characters must never eat in public, tattoos need covering, staff must be able to sign autographs as their character, and no staff member can say 'I don't know' in response to a question. Also, if a staff member wears glasses and their character doesn't, they'll need to wear contact lenses to keep it authentic. For guests, no one over 14 is allowed to wear costumes so they aren't mistaken for real characters, and guests staying at the Disney Hotel aren't permitted to hang wet towels, swimmers, or clothes off their balconies.

‘Catastrophic': The power struggle behind Disney Pixar's disastrous box office bomb, Elio

A secret battle behind the scenes at Disney Pixar has been revealed for the first time after the company suffered its biggest ever movie bomb following the release of Elio last month. After numerous delays behind the scenes, the animated film hit cinemas in June where it grossed a disastrous $20.8 million in the US, the lowest opening frame at the box office in Pixar's history by a large margin. To make matters worse, the film reportedly cost upwards of $200m to produce. Now it's come to light that the movie released in cinemas is vastly different to the film that was originally screened for Pixar executives by the movie's original director, Adrian Molina. In the original cut of the movie, Elio, 11, was seen to be passionate about fashion and environmentalism, with numerous scenes detailing his flare for hobbies not traditionally seen as masculine. It's reported that there was also a scene in Elio's bedroom with pictures that alluded to him having a male crush. However, all of these were removed after Pixar bosses reportedly pushed for the character to be more 'masculine'. The nightmare began in 2022, when then-director Adrian Molina screened his cut of the movie to test audiences. While many complimented the film's content, Pixar heads became nervous when 'no one' put their hand up when asked if they would see it in cinemas. Molina eventually stepped down and two new directors were hired to change the direction of the then almost entirely complete movie. 'It was pretty clear through the production of the first version of the film that (studio leaders) were constantly sanding down these moments in the film that alluded to Elio's sexuality of being queer,' an anonymous Pixar employee told Hollywood Reporter. 'I was deeply saddened and aggrieved by the changes that were made,' former Pixar assistant editor Sarah Ligatich, who provided feedback during Elio's production as a member of the company's internal LGBTQ group PixPRIDE, told the publication. Ms Ligatich said that a number of creatives working on the film stepped down after the new directors shared their first revised cut of the movie. 'The exodus of talent after that cut was really indicative of how unhappy a lot of people were that they had changed and destroyed this beautiful work.' 'Suddenly, you remove this big, key piece, which is all about identity, and Elio just becomes about totally nothing,' added a former Pixar artist quoted in the same article. 'The Elio that is in theatres right now is far worse than Adrian's best version of the original. 'I'd love to ask Pete and the other Disney executives whether or not they thought the rewrite was worth it. Would they have lost this much money if they simply let Adrian tell his story?' According to Hollywood Reporter, tensions within Pixar have only increased in recent years following a string of disappointing commercial releases. The once bulletproof studio has been forced to rely on sequels to well-known films after their original stories began to loose steam at the box office.
