Niemann slams Carlsen's fans
With a defeat to Aronian, Carlsen was relegated to the Lower Bracket quarter-finals and his fans vented out their frustration on Niemann and his celebrations. The 22-year-old Niemann has now hit out at the fans for making accusations against him and reminding them of his struggles since he was labelled a cheat by Carlsen. Meanwhile, Niemann, who was accused of cheating over the board by Carlsen in 2022 at the Sinquefield Cup, has enjoyed a highly successful tournament in Las Vegas, reaching the final of the Freestyle Chess event, a tournament which is co-owned by Carlsen.
Niemann defeated fellow American GM Fabiano Caruana 2.5-1.5 in the semi-finals, scripting a memorable run and upsetting the odds. He is set to face Aronian in the mega final. Aronian reached the final by defeating Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi in the semis.
Carlsen, however, is still fighting for the third spot, despite being put out of the title race. Carlsen defeated India's R Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi in classification matches to qualify for the third spot against Hikaru Nakamura. The winner will take home a mega prize of $100,000.
The winner of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Las Vegas leg will earn $200,000.

Venus Williams' return to professional tennis after a 16-month absence came with more than just a win—it came with a surprise off-court announcement: she's engaged. Following her historic singles victory at the DC Open, the 45-year-old tennis legend thanked her fiancé, Andrea Preti, who was cheering from the stands. Preti is a Danish-born Italian model and actor, according to IMDb. A Record-Breaking Comeback Williams made headlines by becoming the second-oldest woman in history to win a tour-level singles match, joining the ranks of Martina Navratilova, who achieved a similar feat in 2004. In her opening round at the DC Open, Williams defeated fellow American Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-4, in a 97-minute match. The win was Williams' 819th career WTA singles victory and marked her first singles triumph since returning to the tour. She had already claimed a doubles win on Monday before exiting in the second round of doubles play on Wednesday. Williams, never short on charisma, delivered a tongue-in-cheek explanation for her comeback: 'I had to come back for the insurance," she joked, referencing the perks of staying active on the tour. Her victory also solidified her place in history, as no woman aged 45 or older had won a WTA singles match in more than 20 years. Meanwhile, excitement continues to build for the U.S. Open's newly revamped mixed doubles event, with Venus Williams set to participate. The entry list, released Monday, features several high-profile pairings. Williams will team up with Reilly Opelka, while recent Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova is partnering with Danish standout Holger Rune. Each piece within the Morehouse and Spelman assortments translates from the campus library to the shores of Oak Bluffs, bringing a coastal flair to Ralph Lauren's iconic collegiate sensibility while honoring the sartorial traditions of both institutions. Cardi B in trouble, singer sued for battery after throwing microphone at 2023 concert
Fresh trouble emerged for American rapper and singer Cardi B after a complaint was filed against her in the Eighth Judicial Court in Clark County, Nevada. The lawsuit was filed over her July 29, 2023, concert after she threw a microphone into the crowd. Jane Doe has claimed that the microphone had hit her. She alleged that she underwent "severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury" as a result of the incident. Cardi B is being sued by an Ohio woman claiming that she was 'forcefully' hit by a microphone thrown by the rapper during a performance at Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas in 2023. According to a complaint filed in the Eighth Judicial Court in Clark County, Nevada, the woman, identified as Jane Doe, was on her first solo trip to Las Vegas and attended Cardi's headlining performance at Drai's Beachclub on July 29, 2023. In the lawsuit, it was claimed that during her performance, Cardi, 32, "appeared onstage under visibly high-temperature conditions and, while holding a microphone, verbally requested that the audience splash water on her," according to PEOPLE. Back then, a video clip from the concert went viral in which the "Bodak Yellow" hitmaker was seen asking the crowd to "splash her down"—with one condition. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 21st Century Skills Start with Confident Communication Planet Spark Learn More "Splash me down. That s--- feels good. Put that s--- in my p----y, bitch. Come on," the video shows her telling onlookers, PEOPLE reported. It is, however, unclear whether the video was taken before or after the incident. Cardi B made repeated gestures Live Events According to the lawsuit, Cardi B was making repeated gestures and statements encouraging concertgoers to throw water, implicitly authorizing and inviting light splashing from drinks. Doe also claimed that the rapper further demonstrated her consent and participation by pouring water from a bottle over her body while onstage and that she "physically reacted to splashes by slapping her posterior while audience-thrown liquids made contact with her." According to the complaint, Doe, to act in "accordance with the environment" and "in a manner consistent with other attendees, splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B's direction." Cardi allegedly acted in "apparent anger and without warning" by "suddenly and forcefully" throwing her microphone "directly" at her, Doe claims, alleging that she experienced "immediate apprehension of an imminent harmful contact" immediately after. She claims that the microphone did make contact with her after it was thrown, "resulting in offensive and unconsented physical contact and causing physical injury." In her complaint, Doe stated that Cardi should have known that the microphone "presented a foreseeable risk of physical injury when thrown." This made the Grammy winner's actions an unjustified and retaliatory act that led to harmful and offensive contact with Doe. Cardi's actions were "excessive, disproportionate, and undertaken in a public venue, causing additional reputational and emotional harm," Doe alleged. Jane Doe is suing Cardi B for assault, battery, and negligence. She has alleged that she underwent "severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury." Probe launched against Cardi B A criminal battery investigation was launched against Cardi B. The case was, however, closed due to "insufficient evidence." "What has been written off as a joke by many people is a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life. I am seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law," Doe said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. Cardi B's attorney reacts Reacting to the lawsuit, Drew Findling, an attorney for Cardi B, in a statement, said, "The filing of a civil case against Ms. Almanzar regarding the two-year-old microphone incident is a transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown." "The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up."
