World Wi-Fi Day: Broadband India Forum President lauds govt's move to open 6 GHz spectrum
Speaking to ANI at an event in Delhi, Ramachandran emphasised the importance of the decision, which had been under consideration for several years. 'Today was a very important event... In particular circumstances today, the government has recently launched 500 MHz of delicensed 6 GHz spectrum that has been in the works for the last 3 or 4 years. And it's a great step, probably the first step towards that direction, and this is going to help innovation, R&D, and connectivity for high-data applications...' he said.
The decision came as part of India's efforts to improve digital access, promote Wi-Fi connectivity, and boost innovation and research in the high-speed wireless data space.
The 6 GHz band is expected to play a major role in enhancing Wi-Fi services, especially for bandwidth-heavy applications such as online education, remote work, telemedicine, and IoT (Internet of Things).
Earlier in the day, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, in his keynote address at the World Wi-Fi Day Conference organised by the Broadband India Forum, stated that Wi-Fi will be a $22 billion segment in India by 2035, playing a transformative role in the nation's digital journey.
Describing Wi-Fi as 'an invisible force capable of powering visible change,' Scindia hailed India's rapid strides in digital inclusion, noting that India now contributes 46 per cent of global digital transactions. He emphasised that connectivity is no longer a luxury, but a fundamental tool of empowerment, akin to access to capital and infrastructure in previous eras.
'Wi-Fi is not just about internet access; it's about widespread inclusion in India in the future. Every hotspot must become a hope spot,' said Scindia, outlining a vision for grassroots entrepreneurship driven by affordable devices, ubiquitous networks, and deregulated spectrum.
He underscored Prime Minister Modi's vision behind PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) as a game-changer that democratises digital access, especially in villages. (ANI)

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlights 'rapid growth' of Northeastern states fulfilling PM's resolve
Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India] July 8 (ANI): Union Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Monday highlighted the rapid progress being made in India's Northeastern states and reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'resolve' to make the Northeastern region the 'growth engine' of India. Interacting with media on Monday in Indore, Scindia said, 'The Prime Minister's resolve is to make the Northeastern region the growth engine of India. The Government of India is working with that same resolve, based on which, whether it be social development or infrastructure, all eight states are moving forward with renewed enthusiasm.' Scindia noted that while the national GDP growth rate currently hovers around '6-7%', the eight Northeastern states are witnessing an impressive growth rate of '11-13%', reflecting the impact of sustained government efforts and targeted investments. He also cited the success of a major Northeast Investment Summit held on May 23. 'On May 23, an investment summit was organised for the Northeastern states. In that, an investment of Rs 4.18 lakh crore was secured for all eight states... There is full hope that our eight states will not only bring a new dawn for India but also for the Global South,' he mentioned. Meanwhile, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday announced multiple initiatives by the government to boost the waterways and maritime sector in the Northeast region. 'With an investment of Rs 5,000 crore earmarked, the Union Government has drawn up major initiatives in this regard,' Sonowal said. He said that, over the past 11 years, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has transformed India's maritime sector with record growth in cargo handling, capacity and coastal shipping. Major ports have nearly doubled their capacity, cruise tourism is rising with ambitious new terminals, and 50,000 youth from the Northeast will be trained for maritime jobs. 'Key legislative and digital reforms, green shipping initiatives, and projects like the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project are strengthening regional connectivity and trade. India's ports are now globally competitive, with nine ranking in the World Bank's top 100, and Visakhapatnam Port reaching the top 20,' Sonowal said. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sonowal said, 'Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have revitalised India's maritime sector as never before. From historic growth in port capacity and cargo handling to pioneering green shipping, cruise tourism and skill development for our youth -- these achievements reflect the Modi government's unwavering commitment to make India a global maritime powerhouse and drive inclusive development across every coastal and riverine region.' Delhi HC issues notice to police on Gopal Ansal's plea to quash FIR
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to police on a plea moved by real estate baron Gopal Ansal, convicted in the Uphaar fire tragedy case, for quashing an FIR lodged against him in a cheating case. The FIR has been lodged on a complaint filed by a buyer of land in a project developed by Ansal Buildwell Limited. Justice Amit Mahajan issued notice to Delhi Police and sought a status report. The matter has been listed for hearing on September 10. The High Court has also directed the state not to take coercive steps against the petitioner till the next date of hearing. The bench has also issued a notice to the complainant in the matter upon the filing of the amended memos of the parties. Gopal Ansal has filed a petition seeking quashing of the FIR registered on February 11, 2025, at Police Station Barakhamba Road for the offences under Sections 420, 406, 120B of the Indian Penal Code. The said FIR was registered on a complaint given by Manoj Anand, alleging that he had paid a sum of Rs 3,56,000 regarding the purchase of certain land in a project being developed by the accused's company, Ansal Buildwell Limited. Gopal Ansal is stated to be the director of the accused company at the relevant time. It is alleged that no property was ever handed over to the complainant, Anand, the High Court noted. Advocate Sushil Kumar Gupta, counsel for Gopal Ansal, submitted that the project could not see the light of day since the Jaipur Development Authority did not give permission to convert the status of the land. He submitted that various letters were written to the complainant for a refund of money. However, no response was received, and the complaint has now belatedly been made after almost two decades. Upon learning this fact, the High Court also stated, 'Prima facie, this Court has been unable to figure out why such an FIR after two decades was registered by the police authorities.' It was also submitted that the accused company, even otherwise, had always been willing to refund the entire money with reasonable interest to the complainant. Ansal's counsel further submitted that to show his bona fide, a sum of Rs 10,00,000 shall be deposited by Anand with the Registrar General of this court within a period of four weeks. Union Minister Jitendra Singh urges rapid adoption of agri-tech
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh on Monday called for a paradigm shift in the agriculture sector by embracing cutting-edge technology and fostering greater synergy among stakeholders. He said this while addressing the 96th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Society at the NASC Complex in the national capital. Speaking at the high-profile event chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dr Singh underscored that every technology available globally is now accessible within India. 'It is no longer about whether technology is available--it is about how fast we adopt it and integrate it into our agricultural ecosystem to add value to our economy,' he said. The Minister stressed the importance of breaking mental and institutional silos, noting that many in the agriculture value chain are not just unaware of new technologies but also unaware that they are unaware. 'Technology in agriculture has progressed rapidly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past 11 years. Yet, its full potential remains untapped at the ground level,' he added. Pointing to success stories like the Lavender Revolution in Jammu and Kashmir, where over 3,500 startups have emerged around lavender cultivation, Dr Singh emphasized how new-age farming--using satellite imaging, remote-controlled tractors, and order-based crop production--is reshaping the agricultural narrative. 'From lavender in Bhaderwah to off-season tulips grown for temple offerings, we have examples where science and strategy have combined to generate both income and innovation,' he noted. He also highlighted that biotech-driven advances, such as pest-resistant cotton developed through Department of Biotechnology initiatives and radiation-based food preservation techniques by the Department of Atomic Energy, are redefining how produce is grown, stored, and exported. 'Our mangoes now fly to the US thanks to these technologies. And yet, many states have not come forward to fully exploit these tools,' he observed. In an earnest appeal to state agriculture ministers and institutional stakeholders, Dr Singh proposed more frequent and informal cross-ministerial interactions to ensure real-time exchange of innovations. 'We should not wait for annual meetings alone. Let's create working groups and reach out when solutions can be shared, spontaneously and practically,' he urged. Referring to the Marine Agriculture initiative in coastal states and the cultivation of mangoes in Manipur or apples in Andhra Pradesh, the Minister cited these as 'non-traditional yet highly viable' ventures that show how India's agri-map is being redrawn through science. The meeting, attended by key Union and state ministers, scientists, and officials from ICAR and associated ministries, also saw the release of key ICAR publications and presentations on annual reports and financials. 'Our biggest challenge isn't lack of technology. It's the lack of connectedness between those who develop it and those who need it. That is the bridge we must now build,' he concluded. The AGM ended with a vote of thanks and a renewed commitment to harnessing India's scientific edge for agricultural resilience and economic growth. (ANI)
