Train delays up to 50 minutes expected as KTMB upgrades signalling system

Malay Mail29-05-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Work to upgrade the signalling system, on the route between Kepong Station and Salak Selatan Station, will take place over three days, starting this Saturday until June 2, said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
KTMB, in a statement, said that during the upgrade period, KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley and electric train services (ETS) will undergo temporary timetable adjustments.
KTM Komuter services on the Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang and Tanjung Malim-KL Sentral-Tanjung Malim routes, as well as ETS services, are expected to experience delays of up to 50 minutes from their original schedules.
In addition, two ETS services — EG9425 (Padang Besar to Segamat) and EG9321 (Butterworth to Segamat) - will have platform changes at KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur Stations, on May 31 only.
'Officers will be placed at the stations to guide and assist passengers to the correct platforms,' it said.
Previously, KTMB postponed the upgrade works, to ensure smooth travel for train passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit, held from May 23 until yesterday
The decision took into account the closure of several major roads in the Klang Valley, and the government's recommendation for the public to use public transport to ease traffic congestion.
In this regard, KTMB advises all passengers to plan their journeys, and check the timetable on MyRailtime via the KTMB Mobile application.
'Passengers are also urged to stay alert to announcements at stations, and updates on KTMB's official social media channels.
'A short message service (SMS) will be sent to affected ETS passengers, as an early notification of possible delays,' it added.
KTMB greatly appreciates the patience and continued support of all users during the upgrade works. Further updates will be provided periodically, through KTMB's official media channels or by contacting the Customer Service Centre at 03-9779 1200. — Bernama

Bribe burning scandal: MACC identifies two more companies involved in data centre graft

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified two more companies suspected of obtaining data centre construction projects by bribing the project manager of a prominent construction company who was recently arrested. According to a source, several company directors have also been identified and will be called to assist in the investigation into the case. "The investigation also found that the main suspect, the project manager, admitted to having asked for about three per cent of the project value from any company that wanted to obtain a project from a prominent construction company," he said here today. The source informed that the bribe was done by leaking the tender price and helping to ensure that the company that paid the bribe was given priority to win the tender. "This bribe was paid in stages according to the progress of the project payment and it is understood that there are several million more that have yet to be paid by the company to the suspect as per their agreement," he said. The media previously reported that a project manager of a prominent construction company who was detained for investigation into a corruption case involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender was willing to burn almost RM1 million in cash to destroy evidence after being shocked by the MACC raid through Op Ways on Thursday. According to sources, during the raid conducted at his home in Petaling Jaya, a team of officers found RM100 banknotes totalling almost RM1 million in flames. As a result of a thorough inspection of the home, the MACC also found cash totalling approximately RM7.5 million stored in several pillow boxes, three Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches as well as jewellery such as rings and gold coins. On Friday, the media reported that a contract manager, his wife and two men in their 40s to 60s were arrested by the MACC Investigation Division around the Klang Valley, believed to be involved in corruption involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender in Johor worth approximately RM180 million. — Bernama

PORT DICKSON, July 20 — The Madani Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM) held in conjunction with 'Ukhuwah Kepimpinan Kerajaan Madani' programme in Port Dickson today distributed 2,500 free chickens to lucky visitors. The programme organised by the Malaysian Nationhood Academy in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living distributed free chickens at two different locations, namely 500 at Batu 1 PJRM while the rest were at Dataran Kampung Pachitan PJRM. A Bernama survey at the Batu 1 PJRM here found that people started coming to the PJRM around 8 am and were seen increasing by midday today to get essential goods at lower prices than the market. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also distributed free chickens to lucky visitors at Batu 1 PJRM, besides being enlivened by the presence of Madani government MPs and cabinet ministers to greet the people. Visitor, Nurul Nabila Salleh, 36, said she was really looking forward to PJRM because the prices were very cheap compared to the market price. The mother of two hopes that a programme like this can be held every month to help the needy, especially the B40 who are really looking forward to PJRM. 'The goods are sold very cheap compared to other supermarkets, if possible it can be held every week or at least every end of the month so that the people can buy at a cheaper price,' she told Bernama here today. Former headmaster, A. Damutaran, 68 who agreed with the view said the purchase not only saves money, but also allows buyers to get complete kitchen needs in one place. 'There are onions, eggs, chicken, sardines, coconut milk, all sold at cheaper prices than other places, so we don't have to go anywhere else, we just buy in one place,' he said. — Bernama

National Climate Change Bill to include incentives for carbon reduction, says minister

Acting natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Johari Ghani said the bill is still in the drafting stage and has yet to be presented to the Cabinet. KUALA LANGAT : The proposed National Climate Change Bill will include incentives for companies that successfully reduce their carbon emissions, says acting natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Johari Ghani. Johari said the bill, among other things, may include provisions for the implementation of carbon credits, which would further support the national agenda to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. He said the bill is still in the drafting stage and has yet to be presented to the Cabinet. He is currently reviewing the draft, and plans to engage with industry players, including Bursa Malaysia, to gather input and guidelines. The details will be disclosed to the public once the bill is finalised. 'The first draft is already out, but I need to review it thoroughly to ensure that the (proposed) law to be tabled is acceptable to the industry, and can achieve its intended objectives,' he said following an event at Pulau Carey today. On May 29, natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry secretary-general Ching Thoo was reported as saying the bill is expected to be tabled in August.
