"The southwest monsoon seasonal (June to September, 2025) rainfall is most likely to be above normal over Central India and South Peninsular India (>106% of LPA), normal over Northwest India (92-108% of LPA) and below normal over Northeast India (<94% of LPA)," the IMD said in a press release as reported by ANI.
The rains are caused by an east-southeastward cloud cluster, according to IMD.
On May 28, Mumbai received heavy rainfall as the month of May was logged as the wettest month, with an orange alert issued on May 26.
Waterlogging was also reported in several areas of the Maharashtrian capital.
The southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the Monsoon Core Zone (MCZ), which includes the country's rainfed agricultural areas, is expected to be above normal, exceeding 106 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA).
Between June to September 2025, normal to above normal rainfall is forecast for most of the country except some northwestern and western areas. In many areas of northeastern India, below normal rainfall is expected.

Heavy rain causes waterlogging, traffic snarls in parts of city
Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi on Wednesday, causing severe waterlogging and traffic snarls. Waterlogging and traffic disruptions were reported from several areas, including Nehru Place, Aurobindo Marg, Kailash Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Siri Fort Road, Chirag Dilli flyover, Outer Ring Road, G.K. Other stations that registered heavy rainfall included Ayanagar (50.5 mm), Pragati Maidan (37 mm), North Campus (22 mm), and Pusa (30 mm). Other areas such as IGNOU (11.5 mm), Janakpuri (4 mm), Naraina (6.5 mm) and Lodhi Road (1.5 mm) received moderate showers. The Public Works Department control room received 29 waterlogging complaints. The IMD issued a 'red alert' for Delhi on Wednesday evening, indicating the need for vigilance and precaution as more rain is expected over the next 24 hours. The weather department has forecast a 'generally cloudy sky with moderate rain accompanied by lightning' for Thursday. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 32 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively.

Balod bridge collapses, villages cut off; 41-yr-old drowns in Sakti
Raipur: Monsoon fury in the state continued wreaking havoc on Wednesday as a bridge collapses in Balod, disconnecting dozens of villages as people battled dangerous conditions and infrastructure struggling to stand the onslaught of heavy rains. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged possible thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds (30–40 km/h) in districts such as north Bastar, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Durg and Bemetara. There were twin alerts issued by IMD about an active monsoon phase gripping Chhattisgarh. In Balod district's Bori village, relentless rain caused the Semaria Nala bridge to collapse, disconnecting dozens of villages including Piparchhedi, Bordki, and Pasod from the district headquarters. In Sakti, a 41-year-old man drowned while trying to cross a fast-flowing drain in the village of Anda, Sakti district. The victim Sukhchand Varam, was returning home late on July 7 after attending a wedding event in Bilaspur. While crossing a drain with water flowing about two feet above the bridge, he was swept away.
