Ex-CEO of London Biscuits faces 13 fraud charges
Based on a statement issued by the SC, Liew faced a total of 13 charges before Sessions Court Judge Azrul Darus and pleaded not guilty to all of them.
On the first charge, Liew is accused of having caused the furnishing of a false financial statement to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on Aug 30, 2019, an offence under Section 369(b)(B) of the Capital Markets and Services Act (CMSA) 2007.
The charge relates to a false statement concerning London Biscuits Berhad's cumulative revenue amounting to RM285,985, which was contained in the company's third quarter financial report for the period ended June 30, 2019.
By virtue of his position as a director and group CEO of London Biscuits Berhad at the material time, Liew is deemed to have committed the offence under Section 367(1) of the CMSA.
Liew faces a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine not exceeding RM3 million, upon conviction.
Separately, he was also charged with 12 counts under Section 368(1)(a) of the CMSA 2007 for instructing the creation of false sales transactions in the accounting records of London Biscuits Berhad between October 2018 and March 2019.
The total value of the false transactions across all 12 charges amounts to RM2,354,430. Upon conviction, each charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine not exceeding RM1 million.
The Sessions Court allowed bail at RM300,000 with two local sureties for all 13 charges.
Liew was further ordered to surrender his passport to the court and to report to the SC's investigating officer twice a month.

Pahang youth who used fake gun to scare man among 26 doing community service
KUALA LUMPUR: Aidil (not his real name) admits he lost his temper when he brandished a replica gun during an argument with a man whom he said had been very rude to his mother. "I only wanted to scare him into thinking I would shoot him after he used very course language and was very rude to my mum. "I didn't actually want to shoot him," said the 20-year-old, who was sentenced to 240 hours community service for the incident last year. Aidil is one 26 people serving their community service orders today at the 2025 Beret Community Service Order Programme at the Civil Defence Force's (APM) Pahang headquarters. He said he was working as a security guard in Bentong at the time of the incident, and did not expect the brash decision would land him in trouble. "The pistol could fire only metal pellets. I bought it for RM300. I had no intention of hurting the man. I only wanted to scare him, nothing more. "I did not expect to be arrested by police just hours after the incident, charged in court and eventually sentenced to 240 hours of community service," he said. Aidil was charged with possession of a replica firearm and making criminal threats. He must complete his community service within two years under the supervision of the Pahang Social Welfare Department. Pahang Social Welfare Department director Khairul Amri Ahmad said there were 52 people in the state, including children, youths and adults, who are under community service orders. He said today's programme was designed to build inner strength, discipline and resilience, as well as helping them to develop physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally in facing life's challenges. Khairul Amr added that those involved had committed various offences, including theft, sexual offences, traffic violations, rape, drug offences, threats, abuse and illegal street racing. Aidil's lapse in judgment in dealing with life's challenges is not unique, even among among older and supposedly more mature people. Forty-year-old Aida (not her real name) said that the extreme stress of living in Kuala Lumpur drove her to abuse her 18-month-old niece, which left bruises on the child's back. "The hardship of living in a cramped room made it difficult for me to control myself, and I ended up hitting the child. "At the time, I was also caring for my four children, aged 1 to 14. "I never imagined that when the child was taken to the hospital for seizures, the doctor would discover bruises on her back, which led to a police case. "The damage was done, and I was sentenced to 240 hours of community service," said Aida, who now lives in Cameron Highlands. For Salmah, 19, from Temerloh, she became involved in a mule account syndicate last year, which resulted in legal consequences when police traced a deposit of RM2,000 made by an individual into her bank account. Elderly man with two wives charged with raping sister-in-law
KOTA BARU: A 64-year-old man with two wives was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping his sister-in-law at a village in Kubang Golok, Bachok, in January this year. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. According to the charge sheet, the accused is alleged to have raped his 18-year-old sister-in-law in a room at a house at 3pm on Jan 18. He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Ab Rahman. Earlier, Siti Hajar did not offer bail, stating that the victim is the accused's sister-in-law and that both the accused's and the victim's families live together. Ahmad Nurie, however, requested bail on the grounds that his client, who works as a coconut milk trader, has to support his family and has two wives. The court later granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety and set Aug 25 for mention.
