I've been hunting for hidden
hacks
for years, and there are a few that are easily missed.
That includes these three secret buttons you might never have even heard of.
SECRET BUTTON 1 – ACCESSIBILITY SHORTCUT
First up is the Accessibility Shortcut, which is hiding in plain sight on the outside of your iPhone.
You know the Side Button? It's the one that you use to lock your iPhone with a click, or to pull up Siri by holding down.

Well it has a secret function that you can trigger by clicking it three times.
And you can change that function by going into Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut.
I usually have mine set to one of two things.
My main pick is Background Sounds, which makes my iPhone play rain noises. This is great when you need to shut out the outside world.

You can also change the sound that it plays by going into Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Background Sounds.
A second option is setting Accessibility Shortcut to Vehicle Motion Cues.
This puts moving dots on the screen to try to help you avoid motion sickness when you're in a car. The dots match the motion of the vehicle to give your eyes a reference point, reducing the effect that triggers the nausea.
I tested Vehicle Motion Cues on a road trip earlier this year, and I was impressed with the results.

SECRET BUTTON 2 – BACK TAP
Another very handy option is Back Tap, which turns the back of your mobile into a button.
You choose a function, and then you can trigger it by tapping the back of your phone.
Better yet, you can have one function for a double-tap, and then a different one for a triple-tap.

To find it, just go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.
There are loads of choices.
For double-tap, I've got it set to take a screenshot. You'll use this every day – it's just so handy.
And for triple-tap, I have it on Shazam. That's the clever feature that identifies a song that's playing nearby – maybe on the
radio
or in a shop.

SECRET BUTTON 3 – LOCK SCREEN SWAP
How often do you use your phone's torch?
Probably not enough to need a shortcut on the Lock Screen for constant access.
Well in iOS 18 (go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if you've got the update), you can swap out the torch and camera icons for something else.
The camera is pretty useful (unless you've got a newer iPhone with the built-in camera button).

But you can probably get away with swapping out the torch, as you can access that via the Control Centre or Siri easily enough.
Just hold down on the Lock Screen, tap customise, choose Lock Screen, then tap on the torch to replace it.
I've got mine set to open my Reminders app, because I use it all the time.
But you can have it open almost any app, or perform loads of different functions. If one doesn't exist, you can tap on Shortcuts to create exactly what you want it to do.

A good option for
holidays
is setting it to launch the Translate app, but the choice is totally yours.
And if you decide you hate it, you can always go back to the plain old torch.
IT'S WORTH IT, I PROMISE!
Here's some advice from The Sun's tech editor
These tricks are genuinely useful – but you'll have to stick with them.
We've all been using our iPhones the same way for years.
So changing a daily habit can be difficult, and might feel awkward at first.
Like the screenshot trick above: you've been doing screengrabs one way for an age, so moving to something else might feel weird at first.
But having switched to this method, it's so much easier.
And by grabbing the new habit, I've found myself using Back Tap to open Shazam a lot more too.
It's a similar story for changing your Lock Screen shortcuts.
At first, it'll feel totally weird – but after a few weeks, you'll wonder how you lived the old way.
Stick with it, and it's worth it. I promise.

It goes into the HDMI port. Your TV almost certainly several of those. And it'll give it a brand new interface chock full of apps, games, and some clever Amazon features too. Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max – £69.99 The idea is that no matter what TV you have – even if it's old and a bit rubbish – you can get a new and "smart" experience on the cheap. Read more on Amazon And at £69.99 (or potentially less if you read on...), this device is way cheaper than upgrading to a newer TV. Of course Amazon Fire TV Sticks can be snapped up for far less, with the HD model coming in at just £39.99. So what makes this so good? Why am I here raving about it to you? AMAZON FIRE TV STICK 4K MAX – WHAT IS IT? Let's start with the basics. You plug it in, and you're pretty much good to go in a matter of seconds. Most read in Tech It's a fairly easy system to navigate. If you've ever used a phone or telly (and let's be honest, you probably have) then it's the same thing. You've got a list of apps that you can open, and they'll serve up content. There's a frankly enormous selection of apps available via the Amazon Appstore. But you get some bits pre-installed, like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and (of course) Amazon Prime Video. These are all official and legal apps – no "dodgy" Fire Sticks here. Amazon Fire Stick trick lets you find lost remote instantly using hidden 'ringer' There's also a Live tab packed with loads of live TV channels. These are totally free to watch. The only catch is that you'll have to sit through ads. But if you fancy effectively unlimited Hell's Kitchen, Mythbusters, or Baywatch , you're in luck. The big advantage for this device over the cheapest Amazon Fire Stick is the 4K quality. 9 You control the Fire Stick with this handy Alexa-enabled voice remote (but you can use the buttons if you'd prefer not to chat with your telly) Credit: Sean Keach / The Sun You'll be able to watch Ultra HD Netflix or Amazon Prime Video content in its full native resolution. So all of that extra detail is captured and displayed (as long as you have a 4K telly too). There is a slightly cheaper Fire Stick 4K (the one without the "Max" branding) that costs a tenner less. There are a few minor differences, including a slightly more advanced Wi-Fi system that you don't really need to worry about, and an "Ambient Experience" that shows artwork on your telly. They're both fine to have, but they're not the big winners. Instead, look out for the doubled storage on the Max (16GB versus 8GB) so you can download more apps. 9 The interface is easy to navigate – and guides you on how to use features as you go Credit: Sean Keach / The Sun And note that the processor is also faster on the Max, which makes it ultra-speedy. A slow telly is immensely frustrating. Don't put yourself through that. WHAT I'M MOST IMPRESSED BY One of the best things about the Amazon Fire TV Stick platform generally is the vast array of apps on offer. You can get pretty much everything on here. But there are some great options that save you money . For a start, you've got so much free telly on offer that you'd struggle to get through it all. You could quite easily watch TV forever without paying a penny. So if you fancy binning all of your TV subscriptions, you won't have to go without telly. That'll save you hundreds of quid right off the bat. But earlier this week, I also revealed how you could quite easily enjoy For £14.99 a month you can get Xbox Cloud Gaming , which is basically a "Netflix for games". 9 Loads of popular apps are available on the Fire Stick Credit: Sean Keach / The Sun So instead of having a console render the gaming visuals, they're beamed to you over the internet instead. You can play a massive library of over 350 games without owning a console. You just need a Fire Stick, decent internet, and a wireless games controller – like an Xbox or PlayStation joypad. It's a great way to make a saving, because you don't need to fork out for a console. But there's an even cheaper option that I'm also pretty impressed by. AMAZON FIRE TV STICK 4K MAX – THE OFFICIAL SPECS Here's a quick look... Picture Resolution: 4K Ultra HD Video Formats: Dolby Vision / HDR / HDR10 / HDR10+ / HLG Audio: Dolby Atmos Bundled Remote: Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced Storage: 16GB Memory: 2GB Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 6E Picture-In-Picture Live View: Yes Ambient Experience: Yes Picture Credit: Amazon Amazon has its own Xbox Cloud Gaming rival called Luna. And if you pay the £8.99-a-month Luna+ fee, you get more than 100 games to play. It's massively cheaper than buying a console, and you can cancel at any time. That's harder to do with a console. It works extremely well, and the visuals are stunning – because they're being rendered by powerful Amazon computers. 9 You'll be able to unlock seemingly endless live telly too Credit: Sean Keach / The Sun Better yet, if you've got Amazon Prime then you get some games for free – even if you're not paying for Luna+. That includes Fortnite, which is a smash-hit shooter game that almost needs no introduction. So that's a third way this could slash your bills . If you can enjoy the free games you're getting with Prime, you don't need to pay for Luna+ at all. Are there any downsides? Honestly, it's pretty good for the price. I think the iPad , or Apple Watch. But that magical Apple box starts at £149, so it should be better. Not everyone needs a £149 plug-in streamer. But I think Amazon's 4K Max device is a great middle-ground between your smart TV or a bottom-end Fire Stick and a top-end gadget like the Apple TV 4K. 9 If you have a Bluetooth controller (like this Amazon Luna joypad) then you can play top-tier video games on the Fire Stick without even owning a console Credit: Sean Keach / The Sun SHOULD YOU BUY IT? Whether it's the gadget for you really depends on your budget – and home set up. If you haven't got a 4K telly or you're not paying for any 4K content subscriptions (if you've got the basic Netflix plan, for instance), then buying a 4K Stick is arguably overkill – unless you're looking for future-proofing. But 4K TVs are much cheaper to come by these days, so keep that in mind. If you're an Apple fan that wants to splash out, the Apple TV 4K is still my top pick for a streaming gadget. I'm impressed by it. For the price, this is good value for money – and it's got several ways to slash your entertainment bills too. It's fairly small and doesn't need a tangle of wires. The remote is neat and easy to use, and looks good on the coffee table. It also gives you access to the Alexa voice assistant, which is handy for asking about the weather or demanding a movie. And the set-up is no-nonsense. I'd only downgrade to the cheapest Fire Stick if I was sticking it in a spare room on a non-4K TV. Otherwise, this feels like the Fire Stick to go for. The other thing to watch out for is pricing. 9 Amazon has a special gaming service called Luna for playing video games over the internet Credit: Sean Keach / The Sun As I mentioned, this gadget normally costs £69.99 – but it doesn't always. Amazon often discounts its own products. Just plug the gadget into CamelCamelCamel (a tracker that monitors Amazon prices over time) to see for yourself. There are several points where it's been on sale for as low as £50, and even £44.99. The average retail price is £58.74. So this gadget is even better value for money if you can pick it up in a sale. There's no guarantee, but keeping your eyes peeled around Black Friday 2025 (that's November 28) could be a good idea. I'm finally ditching iPhone after 10 years for Android – Samsung's new handset has convinced me to switch in three ways
YES, you read the headline right - a long-time iPhone user is ready to switch to Android. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Look and feel My first reason for switching is quite simple - the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is just so pretty. I've had a try of all the previous Galaxy Z Flip handsets, as well as other clam shell-style flip phones on the market. But the Galaxy Z Flip 7 feels like it's finally got it right. The colour I have is blue shadow, with an aluminium frame and glass back that feels premium. Samsung has drastically improved the smaller external display you can use when closed - known officially as the FlexWindow. I feel like the Flip 7 has injected a bit of much needed fun into mobiles again, all within a stylish body The FlexWindow display now wraps around the two cameras so it blends in, rather than cutting a box around them. You can show slick animations like falling confetti which adds to the beautiful charm of the Flip 7 that makes me want to use it as my main smartphone. And when you flip open the handset the display is ever so slightly bigger than the Flip 6, measuring in at 6.9-inches with that unavoidable crease along the middle only really visible at certain angles. It weighs only 188g, so the Flip 7 feels mega light in my hands and even more so in my pocket. 4 It fits so nicely in my pocket Credit: Jamie Harris / The Sun Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Performance and features The Galaxy Z Flip 7 runs on Samsung's own take on Android 16, known as One UI 8 - and it's one of my favourites around. While there are some Samsung apps I don't really want - such as Samsung's own web browser - others like gallery and calendar are much simpler than Google's own. But the beauty of it is the choice is yours, whether you prefer Samsung's, Google's or some other from the Google Play Store. I love how vibrant the FlexWindow is - I notice people giving it a stare on the train Features haven't changed a great deal from all the AI we've seen on recent Galaxy phones but you can use One really neat addition is support for Samsung Dex, which allows you to plug your phone into a computer display and it will run like a PC computer alongside a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It's the first time Samsung has introduced this on its foldables, so you literally have a PC-like experience ready to use in your pocket. Samsung continues to offer seven years of security and operating system updates, so you won't have to pay for an expensive upgrade anytime soon as long as you keep the phone in good physical condition. Who offers free updates longest? The longer you receive updates, the longer you can safely continue using your smartphone - with the latest features thrown in too for free. Samsung For the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung said it would provide at least seven generations of OS updates and seven years of security updates. OnePlus At the launch of the OnePlus 13, OnePlus committed to at least four years of Android updates and six years of security updates. Xiaomi Xiaomi offers four years off Android updates and five years security updates. Google For the Pixel 9 series, Google said that devices would receive at least seven years of support. The chip that keeps things running is the Exynos 2500. This is Samsung's own chip instead of the leading However, most people won't notice any real difference. This bit of kit runs smoothly through any app I throw at it. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Battery Samsung has given the Flip 7 a battery boost compared to last year's Flip 6. It's bigger - 4300mAh - without making the overall phone physically bulkier. Having used the Flip 7 as my main phone for a week, the battery just about gets me through the day with general use of emails, However, the battery charging speeds haven't been upgrade from its predecessor, sticking to 25W wired and 15W wireless. It took just under half an hour to get the battery to 50 per cent. Sun's tech editor shows NEW 4mm thin folding Samsung – & teases 'flip iPhone' too Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Camera The camera department hasn't really changed at all since the Flip 6. While the Fold 7 gets a mighty 200-megapixel main snapper, the Flip 7 is only 50-megapixel. Alongside that is a 12-megapixel ultrawide and 10 megapixel selfie. That said, I don't have any complaints about the results with some detailed, vibrant pictures produced. And obviously you have the added bonus of being able to turn the Flip 7 into a stand, so you can easily take group photos without using the lower quality selfie camera (and awkward angles of the person taking the selfie). Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Price The Galaxy Z Flip 7 starts from £1,049. If you get in fast, Samsung are offering a free storage increase, with the 512GB model selling for the same price as the 256GB model.
