RM1.5m allocation to upgrade KEMAS kindergartens, childcare centres
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government has also allocated RM1.8 million in basic religious allocation for the Iqra' and Fardu Ain (IQFA) programmes.
He added that KEMAS kindergartens are now being positioned as feeder institutions for Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor (SRBJ).
'However, this requires curriculum harmonisation, including elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) - a transformation that will elevate Johor's preschool education to a higher and more competitive level,' he said in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, in another development, Onn Hafiz said the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) in Renggam, Kluang, is currently undergoing active development.
'I had the opportunity to review the development of TMIYC Renggam and engage with representatives from youth groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and local sports activists.
'This youth centre is being actively developed in line with the aspirations of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, to ensure that every district has facilities that serve as spaces for building the character, leadership, and potential of Johor's youth,' he said, adding that so far, three TMIYCs are already in operation in the state.

Umno eyes all Pas, Bersatu seats in the next general election
BATU PAHAT: Umno is gearing up for the 16th General Election, with the Barisan Nasional lynchpin setting its sights on wresting parliamentary seats currently held by Pas and Bersatu. Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he is confident that the party could win back these seats if given the opportunity to contest them, subsequently strengthening its overall position in the country's political landscape. As part of efforts to prepare for the election, the deputy prime minister, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said Umno would conduct surveys and research in those constituencies to better understand voter sentiment and on-the-ground dynamics before identifying suitable candidates. "If we were to work with Pas and Bersatu, and we only have 26 seats, which seats would they be willing to offer us to field our candidates? "The answer is certainly none. "Insya-Allah, the seats currently held by Bersatu and Pas in certain areas will be reviewed and studied, and those are the ones Umno candidates will reclaim in the next general election," he said when opening the Sri Gading Umno division delegates' meeting today. Present were Johor Umno liaison committee chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, and Sri Gading Umno division chief Datuk Lassim Burhan. Zahid acknowledged that the current political landscape is different, with Umno now relying on its partnership with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to remain competitive in elections. He noted that Umno currently holds only 26 parliamentary seats, while the rest under the BN banner come from other component parties. Going solo against Pas and Bersatu, he warned, would put the party at a disadvantage. "This is why political cooperation is essential. "At the same time, we must not be swayed by the 'UMDAP' narrative pushed by certain quarters," he said, referring to the derogatory label aimed at discrediting Umno's cooperation with DAP. "There's no such thing as UMDAP. Our collaboration is between BN and PH. Within BN, we have MCA and MIC, and PH comprises Amanah, DAP and PKR. "This is a BN–PH partnership, not an Umno–DAP one. Do not fall into the opposition's trap. They are attempting to fracture our alliance so they can return to power through the backdoor," he said.

Zaharudin serves Sim legal notice, threatens RM1.5 million defamation suit

PETALING JAYA: Sungai Buloh PAS chief Zaharudin Muhammad has served a letter of demand on Steven Sim following criticism by the DAP deputy secretary-general over a Facebook post related to the promotion of a Chinese officer in the armed forces. In the letter dated July 3, issued by legal firm Nur Maidin & Co, Zaharudin demanded that Sim retract his allegedly defamatory remarks and issue a public apology, failing which he said the DAP leader would be sued for RM1.5 million. Advertisement 'Our client hereby demands the sum of RM1.5 million as fair and just compensation for your defamatory statements. 'Our client demands that you comply with the remedial actions immediately and in any event, no later than seven days from the date of this letter,' the lawyers said. Sim said last Thursday that he was ready to go to court to defend his criticism of Zaharudin, who described the comments by the human resources minister on his Facebook post as prejudicial. In his post, Zaharudin had speculated that Malaysia could see its first prime minister of Chinese descent in the next 30 to 40 years. Zaharudin, the son-in-law of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, also uploaded a screenshot of a news report about Johnny Lim's promotion which he said was only for illustrative purposes. The post, which was subsequently deleted, prompted accusations of racism from several quarters and criticism, including from Zaharudin's own party. Sim was among those who had called for Zaharudin to be investigated. He accused Zaharudin of fanning racial sentiments and said that he had merely spoken out against racism when criticising him. Zaharudin said he travelled from Kuala Lumpur to Sim's parliamentary service centre in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, yesterday to personally deliver the letter of demand, but was unable to do so as the office was closed. 'I went to the Bukit Mertajam MP's service centre but unfortunately, no one was there. 'He (Sim) accused me of insulting the armed forces, of being racist, and more. I've sent the letter and am now awaiting his public apology. My lawyer will also follow up by sending it via email,' he told FMT.
