Vikings and Wilf family commit $500,000 to rescue and recovery efforts in Texas flooding
The Vikings and the Wilf family have also contributed $500,000 to the effort. The team announced the move on Wednesday.
'We are deeply saddened by the continued devastation and loss of life in the Texas Hill Country and can't imagine the pain so many are facing,' Vikings owners Mark, Zygi, and Leonard Wilf said in a statement. 'We are praying for peace for the families who have lost a loved one and strength for those who continue to risk their lives leading the rescue and recovery effort.'
It's an impressive gesture by the Vikings, and it hopefully will cause other NFL teams to follow suit. Texas is a hotbed of football, with its Friday Night Lights a feeder system for a broad array of college programs in the state, which funnel plenty of great players to the NFL.
Regardless of whether other teams jump in, it's a great gesture from a team that is headquartered a long way away from where the flooding has happened. And it's a reminder that, even though we all live in our own states, we are all Americans.

Steelers 2025 training camp preview: Wide receiver
Wide receiver is just one of the positional units that the Pittsburgh Steelers completely re-worked in the offseason. Out is George Pickens and in are DK Metcalf and Robert Woods. Last season, the Steelers passing offense ranked No. 27 in passing yards and No. 20 in passing touchdowns. We don't expect Steelers to suddenly lean into the passing game and transition from a run-first offense. But the offseason additions at wide receiver and tight end do give the impression that Pittsburgh is making an effort to get some balance on offense. Advertisement The Steelers will keep five wide receivers on the final 53-man roster and here is a look at the guys who will be vying for those spots. DK Metcalf Pittsburgh traded for Metcalf at the start of free agency, which was foreshadowing of the trade that sent George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. Metcalf is an upgrade, especially in terms of maturity and should provide more consistency in the intermediate passing game. Calvin Austin III Austin has drawn the praise of receivers coach Zach Azzanni, who says he is the team's No. 2 receiver. This would be a hero arc for Austin who has struggled with injuries for much of his NFL career. Advertisement Robert Woods Woods was brought in as a veteran insurance and his experience in the slot will give Pittsburgh some security in case one of the young guys on the team fails to perform. Woods isn't going to blow up the boxscore, but he can line up inside or outside and has tons of productive experience. Roman Wilson After missing all of his rookie season, Wilson is healthy and will compete with Woods to be the team's starting slot receiver. Wilson's college tape was impressive, but similar ot Austin. It remains to be seen if he is ready for the rigor of a full NFL season. Ben Skowronek Swowronek only caught five passes in 2024 but his spot on the roster should be secure thanks to his dominant run blocking and skills on special teams. Advertisement Scotty Miller If there's a veteran on the roster who might bump Skowronek, it's Miller. Miller is a hard worker and a consummate professional. He doesn't offer much in terms of production in the passing game but his experience is valuable. Roc Taylor, Montana Lemonious-Craig, Ke'Shawn Williams The Steelers have three undrafted rookie receivers who might not be fighting for a spot on the final roster but could be key members of the practice squad and called upon if needed. Browns trade proposal sends quarterback not named Shedeur Sanders to Cowboys
The Cleveland Browns' quarterback room is incredibly crowded, as the team is planning to hold a four-way quarterback competition in training camp between Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. With Deshaun Watson's status for the 2025 season in doubt, Cleveland decided to be incredibly active in the quarterback market this offseason. However, one analyst believes the Browns could look to trade one of their signal-callers before the season, and it's not Sanders. Advertisement Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios lists Pickett as a potential trade candidate ahead of the 2025 campaign, with the Dallas Cowboys being tabbed as a possible landing spot for the former first-round quarterback. "Even though the Cowboys got former Patriot draft pick quarterback Joe Milton, it doesn't mean they can't get another signal-caller. Pickett could be a safe veteran option similar to what Cooper Rush was before leaving for Baltimore," Palacios wrote. The Cowboys are likely locked in with Dak Prescott and Joe Milton as the top two quarterbacks. However, if the team plans to keep a third signal-caller, acquiring Pickett to add some more starting experience to the position group would be a savvy move from Jerry Jones. If the Browns don't want to move forward with Pickett as the starter, there's really no reason to keep him, especially with the other three quarterbacks in Flacco, Gabriel, and Sanders on the roster.
