Yogi conducts aerial survey, says anyone disrupting Kanwar Yatra, defiling food items won't be spared
He directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards those attempting to defile food items or engage in similar disrespectful acts. He stressed that those involved in such actions must face the strictest punishment so that the sacred nature of the Kanwar Yatra is not compromised.
The Kanwar Yatra will start on July 11 with the commencement of the Hindu holy month of Shravan or Sawan. The yatra will end on July 23.
'CM Yogi arrived at Hindon airport in Ghaziabad from Lucknow via state aircraft. He then conducted an aerial survey of the Kanwar Yatra route by helicopter, issuing necessary instructions to officials,' an official statement said.
The chief minister issued instructions to officials to ensure seamless arrangements and security of devotees.
He placed special emphasis on maintaining the sanctity of the yatra, ensuring that the faith and enthusiasm of lakhs of devotees remain undisturbed.
'The environment of the yatra must remain peaceful and well-organised at all times,' he said.
Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements for tents, food, and other essential facilities along the route.
He also directed that cleanliness, electricity, and lighting arrangements along the Kanwar path be of the highest standard.
'Every effort must be made to ensure the yatra is completed smoothly and without incident.'
He underlined the importance of involving voluntary organisations and social groups to strengthen arrangements.
The Kanwar Yatra route mostly falls in western Uttar Pradesh. Police and security personnel will be deployed on the 540-km Kanwar route covering Meerut, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, and Hapur, according to DIG Meerut range Kalanadhi Naithani.
A total of 838 rest camps have been set up, including 464 in Meerut, 176 in Bulandshahr, 90 in Baghpat, and 108 in Hapur.
During the Kanwar Yatra, Kanwariyas collect water from the Ganga and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh minister AK Sharma said, 'This one month is like a celebration throughout the country. We are making sure the facilities are better than last year's. Streetlights are being installed throughout the Kanwar route.'

Uttar Pradesh has moved from the 'Performer' to the 'Front Runner' category in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index, following a 25-point improvement in its score, from 42 in 2018-19 to 67 in 2023-24. He added that achieving the SDG targets is a shared responsibility across departments, districts, and panchayats. He called for coordination between various agencies and decentralised monitoring of developmental work. CM Yogi underlined the importance of accurate data collection, stating that real progress can only be measured when supported by reliable figures. He directed officials to prepare and publish SDG profiles for every district. 'Data is not just a record; it is the foundation of policy decisions. Inaccurate or incomplete data neither reflects the real picture nor helps in effective planning,' he said.

Kanwar Yatra: Traffic diversions to come into effect from July 10 night
In view of the Kanwar Yatra, an elaborate traffic diversion plan has been prepared by police in Meerut to manage the anticipated surge in pilgrim movement. The plan will come into effect from the night of July 10, with a complete ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into city limits and strict traffic management protocols to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage, officials said. To oversee the entire Yatra operation, DIG Kalanidhi Naithani, in a meeting with additional state radio officer Vinod Kumar Singh, directed all districts to report updates every hour to the Range Control Room. (HT Photo) According to senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vipin Tada, one lane will be exclusively dedicated to Kanwariyas, while the other will be used for light vehicular movement. Several key highways and intercity routes, especially those connecting Delhi, Uttarakhand, and western U.P. districts will operate under rerouted traffic systems to avoid congestion and accidents. To oversee the entire Yatra operation, DIG Kalanidhi Naithani, in a meeting with additional state radio officer Vinod Kumar Singh, directed all districts to report updates every hour to the Range Control Room. The CCTV Control Room and Dial-112 Control would remain in continuous contact, with coordination from the Integrated Command Centre, he said. Rapid deployment units, including sector/zonal police teams, mobile squads, quick response teams (QRTs), and ambulance units have been instructed to respond instantly to any alerts or emergencies. Naithani confirmed the deployment of 263 four-wheelers and 288 two-wheelers across different districts as mobile response units for the Kanwar route. There will be 115 four-wheelers and 55 two-wheelers in Meerut, 78 four-wheelers and 102 two-wheelers in Bulandshahr, 48 four-wheelers and 72 two-wheelers in Baghpat, and 22 four-wheelers and 59 two-wheelers in Hapur.

India and Brazil set to sign key agreements to boost bilateral trade
India and Brazil, both wary of the tariffs that US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose and looking beyond America for markets for their respective produce, are set to sign almost half a dozen agreements aimed at increasing their bilateral trade during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. India's trade with Brazil is the largest compared to its trade with any other country in Latin America. However, it remains far below Brazil's trade with China, the US, Argentina, and Germany. India-Brazil bilateral trade reached $16.6 billion in 2022-23, but following the drop in oil and gas prices, it is now around $12.2 billion. India enjoys a trade surplus, exporting goods worth $6.7 billion to Brazil and importing goods worth $5.4 billion. Modi and Lula had set a bilateral trade target of $20 billion during their last meeting in November 2024. Brazil is looking to diversify its exports to India beyond sugar and crude oil, which currently dominate sales. Earlier this year, Brazil's Embraer SA, the world's third-largest aircraft manufacturer, set up a subsidiary in India. Brazil is also seeking to expand its market for agricultural and dairy products in India. At a recent event, Lula observed that he only recently discovered that Modi, a devout Hindu, didn't eat meat. Brazil is the world's top beef exporter. 'Our trade relationship is just $12 billion, it's nothing,' Lula said. 'So please, arrange a box of cheese. I want it on the table so he never complains about Brazilian food and, who knows, maybe he'll start buying Brazilian cheese.' Hours before he met the Indian PM in Brasilia for a bilateral meeting on Tuesday evening (India time), Lula joined his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa in criticising Trump for his threat to impose extra tariffs on BRICS member countries. On the final day of the two-day BRICS Summit, which Brazil had hosted, Lula said the US president was 'irresponsible for threatening tariffs on social media.' He also called on world leaders to find ways to reduce international trade's reliance on the dollar. Earlier, South African President Ramaphosa was the first among the BRICS leaders to criticise Trump for his comments, where the US president had warned BRICS members of 10 percent additional tariffs for adopting policies he claimed were 'anti-American.' In their Rio de Janeiro declaration, BRICS members expressed 'serious concerns' over tariffs, condemned soaring defence spending, and denounced airstrikes on BRICS member Iran. However, the group did not mention the US by name. The grouping also tasked its finance ministers and central bank governors to continue discussions on the BRICS Cross-Border Payments Initiative and appreciated the progress made by the BRICS Payment Task Force (BPTF) in identifying possible pathways to support greater interoperability of BRICS payment systems. The effort is aimed at reducing the dominance of the US dollar in international trade. Brazil is also keen to increase its sesame exports to India, which have grown significantly since the Indian market opened to Brazil in 2020. It is also eyeing expanded ethanol exports. In Brasilia, the two countries are expected to sign deals on renewable energy, counterterrorism, cooperation in agricultural research, and agree on a framework to protect confidential information. India is looking to increase its cooperation with Brazil in oil and gas, mining and critical minerals, defence, and security. The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen and diversify bilateral trade, including through the expansion of the India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement, as Brazil assumes the chairship of MERCOSUR from July 1, 2025.
