Marburg CPF active in fighting crime
A new committee was elected recently and is determined to make Marburg safe again.
The chairperson, Fathima Moosa, said the committee attends Saps meetings at station level on a regular basis.
'The information received from the station has made the MCPF stronger and more able to fight crime in the area. A WhatsApp group was created for the community and people are posting crime-related issues. Security companies were added to the group and they are responding to people who need help.'
The committee has grown stronger and residents have volunteered as patrollers. With more patrollers on board with the security companies targeting hot spots, crime has decreased.
The forum celebrated its third anniversary recently and is proud to be a part of the Saps crime fighting initiative.
'Community police forums are the eyes and ears of the police and follow a code of conduct. A constitution is signed by the members of the CPF and the area has a sector commander,' said Moosa.
The forum will occupy the old rehab centre in Marburg soon. It will be called the MCPF Community Centre, and its executives look forward to assisting the community.
Anyone able to contribute to the renovation of the centre, contact Fathima Moosa on 082 4619541.

Two men arrested in connection with KwaZulu-Natal political killings
Councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, the DA's Chief Whip in Umgeni, was gunned down at his home. Image: Supplied Two men who were arrested by the SAPS' KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team in connection with the murder of DA Councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu appeared in Howick Magistrate's Court yesterday. Their arrests came just two days after the unit arrested a former Municipal Manager in connection with the killing of the former ANC Youth League Secretary General, Sindiso Magaqa. One of the suspects arrested in the Ndlovu matter was Amanxamalala Traditional Authority's Inkosi Simphiwe Zuma, who is related to the former and current Umkhonto WeSizwe party President Jacob Zuma. Zuma was arrested alongside Thabo Mathonsi-Chonco. Both Zuma and Mathonsi-Chonco were out on bail for a separate murder case. Although the latest charges against Inkosi Zuma remain unclear, Mathonsi-Chonco was accused of conspiracy to commit murder and the murder of Ndlovu on December 23, 2023. Court A at the courthouse was filled with DA members, Inkosi Zuma's supporters, and members of the public. Another accused in the matter, Zwelithini Buthelezi, was not present. A source informed the Daily News that Buthelezi's charges were withdrawn on July 29 after he agreed to testify for the National Prosecuting Authority as a Section 204 witness. Inkosi Zuma and Buthelezi are also facing another murder charge for killing Zuma's head of izinduna, Qalokunye Zuma, on January 23, 2023. In that matter, Inkosi was granted R25,000 bail after his arrest on June 13; however, Buthelezi had already been denied bail in Ndlovu's murder case. He was arrested for Ndlovu's murder almost a month after being freed on bail from holding cells by Impendle Magistrate's Court in connection with Qalokunye Zuma's murder. Video Player is loading. His lawyer, Nkomo, who refused to divulge his first name, stated that his client wished to be transferred to Pietermaritzburg due to ill health and that the city fell within the jurisdiction of the Howick court. However, Prosecutor Advocate Elvis Gcweka rejected the request, citing concerns that the accused might collude with Buthelezi, who was being held in Pietermaritzburg. Magistrate Ntini rejected Mathonsi-Chonco's request, stating, 'As the State has its fears, I don't see the problem in keeping the accused at Westville. If he is unwell, he can get medical treatment while kept in Westville.' At the time of his death, Ndlovu was deployed to the Umgeni Local Municipality. On Monday, the team arrested the 55-year-old former senior official at the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality in Malvern, Durban, regarding Magaqa's death DAILY NEWS

Police dismiss social media reports claiming kidnapped Pretoria farmer found dead
The SAPS has dismissed social media rumours claiming that prominent farmer and businessman Jerry Boshoga has been found dead. The Witness reports that Boshoga (46), from Silver Lakes in Pretoria, was kidnapped in Centurion in November last year. His abductors initially demanded R25m in ransom, later lowering the demand to R10m. Since his disappearance, the family has received disturbing videos allegedly showing Boshoga being assaulted and pleading for his life. In one of the videos, Boshoga, clearly injured and with a cloth stuffed in his mouth, is heard appealing to his mother: 'Please pay, pay now so they can release me. It is too bad. I really need you. Please pay everything they want, I am begging you…' In another recording, he begs his wife to ask his father to raise the money. The footage sparked widespread concern and led to a national outcry for his safe return. Yesterday, posts began circulating on social media claiming that Boshoga had been found dead. SAPS has labelled these reports as false and irresponsible. Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, saying the investigation is ongoing and at a 'very sensitive stage'. 'The SAPS can confirm that the businessman has not been found alive or deceased. These unverified social media claims are misleading and have caused unnecessary trauma, panic and anxiety to his mother, wife and children.' She confirmed that police remain in close contact with the Boshoga family, who will be informed of any developments first by the investigating team. Boshoga was last seen in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, after telling family he was meeting someone. When his brother could not reach him later that day, a WhatsApp message from an unknown number was sent to Boshoga's wife, along with a voice note in which he said: 'I've been kidnapped.' Mathe has called for responsible social media engagement, particularly in sensitive cases such as kidnappings, where misinformation can worsen the suffering of families involved. City's service delivery operation slammed by residents
The Strydom Park Ratepayers Association (SPRA) is not pleased with the city's High Impact Service Delivery (HISD) Operation that took place on July 30 on the corner of CR Swart Dr and Fabriek Street. Led by the Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) region B and other stakeholders, including SAPS, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), City Parks, and PikitUp, it aimed to clear illegal dumping and remove homeless and waste pickers from around the spruit. Karolynn van Vuuren, chairperson of the association, said that while they appreciate the effort and the presence of multiple stakeholders during yesterday's clean-up, it lacked leadership and coordination. Nearly an hour was lost to inefficiency, and the initiative's momentum suffered as a result. 'If we are to take these operations seriously, JMPD needs to step up, either by being better resourced or rethinking its deployment priorities.' She further stated that the operation, unfortunately, made very little visible difference in the area. Also read: Randburg Customer Service Centre returns after two-year closure 'While we saw brief activity, much remains untouched and unresolved. It's disheartening, and it underscores a painful reality: the city's service efforts are not just lacking, they are insufficient. We're being offered crumbs to placate taxpayers, while fundamental issues persist and deepen.' She added that these blitz-style clean-ups, held once or twice a year, do little to maintain safety or sustainability. Illegal activities resumed almost immediately after the operation. 'Without consistent and strategic follow-through, these events become token gestures rather than genuine solutions. What we need is ongoing monitoring and dedicated enforcement, not these sporadic interventions that give infringers a six-month holiday from scrutiny.' The SPRA is calling on residents and property owners to go beyond simply supplementing city services. Also read: Region B CRUM continues with service delivery campaign around Randburg 'It's time we take full ownership of what the city fails to do. Whether through financial contribution or time investment, community-driven action is no longer a nice-to-have; it's an urgent necessity. The state of our greenbelts, roads, and drains demands more than photo opportunities and fleeting initiatives. We need persistent care, proactive enforcement, and unified local involvement.'
