Drafted third overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2010 MLB Draft, he debuted on August 9, 2012, and spent seven seasons in Baltimore before a midseason trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018.
Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million deal with division-rival Padres in February 2019, then added an 11-year, $350 million extension in February 2023.
Since joining San Diego, he's helped deliver the club's first playoff berth in 14 years with a 2020 appearance, returning again in 2022 and 2024.

Machado has maintained his high level of play in 2025, posting a .289 batting average with an .822 OPS, 13 home runs and 50 RBIs over 86 games.

After earning his seventh All-Star nod on Wednesday, he addressed the clubhouse, 'You guys are just a part of this as much as I am. So, thank you guys for being there every single day and grinding.'
A two-time Gold Glove winner and two-time Silver Slugger, Machado has finished in the top five in MVP voting four times.
He's also within five hits of 2,000—on track to become baseball's 268th member of that club at just 32—and in June joined the 350-home run club as the 103rd player to reach the milestone.
Behind his elite production lies remarkable durability: Machado is the only Padre to start every game this season, cementing his reputation as the team's iron man and clubhouse leader.

Diamondbacks activate outfielder Corbin Carroll from injured list
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks activated outfielder Corbin Carroll from the 10-day injured list before Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Carroll, sidelined since June 18 with a chip fracture in his left wrist, returned to his customary leadoff spot and was starting in right field against the Royals. He was injured when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Toronto's Justin Bruhl. Carroll said before Saturday's game that his wrist felt better the last couple of days and he played in a minor league game on Friday in the Arizona Complex League to test it out. The 2023 National League Rookie of the Year has 20 home runs, a major league leading nine triples and a .255 batting average this season. To make room for Carroll on the roster, the Diamondbacks optioned utilityman Tim Tawa to Triple-A Reno. ___ AP MLB:
