Ski season comes to a close at Mammoth Mountain
We spoke with Mammoth Mountain's VP of marketing and sales, Joani Lynch. She says it's been a great winter and one of the longest seasons not only at Mammoth, but one of the longest seasons in the State of California.
"Our summit is at 11,000 feet, so the snow that comes stays a little bit longer," said Lynch. "We always stay open through Memorial weekend, quite often 4th of July, and in our longest seasons, well into August. So this is above average season for us in terms of length and we've had really fun conditions."
Lynch joined KTVU for a live interview from the slopes on Friday, where skiers could be seen enjoying some powder behind her.
The resort has 10 runs in operation, but no beginner terrain. All the open slopes this weekend are for more experienced skiers and snowboarders. Three chairlifts are open with terrain from top to bottom.
"It's not a great time to be coming up if you're a first timer," Lynch said. There are intermediate trails available and some advanced terrain to explore.
The slopes open at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and the last run is at 1 p.m.
Donuts and coffee will be provided while it lasts in the morning, along with some promotional items, including the famous Mammoth beanie.
"In the afternoon, we do a big celebration at the top of the mountain," Lynch said. "We take one final run down the hill together. It ends with a party down in town."
Now Mammoth looks forward to some summer activities. Including mountain bike trails.
She said there are plenty of other fun things to do in the Sierras this time of year, like going for a bike ride, and fishing or hiking at one of the mini-mountain lakes.
So if you're up for one last weekend of skiing, all the mountain passes are open and Lynch said it should be an easy pass through from the Bay Area to Mammoth.
Meanwhile, closer to Lake Tahoe, Sugar Bowl ski resort is undergoing renovations.
At 86-years-old, it's one of the oldest ski resorts in the state. The resort is a go-to for many here in the Bay Area. The $100 million renovations begin this summer.
The wooden sundeck at the Village Lodge will be replaced and the kitchen will be expanded to offer better food.

Pivetta's dominant outing and Merrill's clutch hit propel Padres to sixth straight win
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Nick Pivetta gave up one hit and one run in seven innings, Jackson Merrill drove in two runs, and the San Diego Padres won their sixth game in a row, 4-1 over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. Pivetta (11-3) struck out five and did not give up a walk. His only blemish was a solo homer by Willson Contreras in the fifth that gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. San Diego answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth in large part to two errors that led to three unearned runs. With Jake Cronenworth at first and one out, Jose Iglesias hit a slow grounder to third baseman Nolan Gorman, whose wide throw hit first baseman Contreras' glove and rolled away. Cronenworth went to third and scored when Contreras' throw to Gorman skipped away. Elias Díaz singled in Iglesias and four batters later, Merrill hit a two-out single up the middle against Matt Svanson. Robert Suarez notched his major league-best 31st save with a scoreless ninth. Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore (6-9) pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and four runs (one earned). Key moment Padres reliever Mason Miller, acquired at the trade deadline on Thursday from the Athletics, trotted in from the bullpen in the eighth inning to roaring applause from the soldout Petco Park crowd for his first appearance with San Diego. Miller got Yohel Pozo to ground into a double play with one out and runners at the corners to get out of the inning unscathed. Key stat The Cardinals have lost five of their last six games. In those five loses, St. Louis has scored a combined four runs. Up next The Cardinals' RHP Michael McGreevy (2-2, 4.91 ERA) takes the hill in game two of the series Saturday night versus Padres' RHP Randy Vásquez (3-4, 3.65). ___ AP MLB:

Lakers have revealed their 2025-26 City Edition jerseys
The Los Angeles Lakers have one of the most iconic uniform designs in all of sports. The design has seen some tweaks over the years, but it has largely remained the same, generally speaking, for over 50 years. Every team has four uniforms it can wear, which include the City Edition uniforms. The Lakers' City Edition uniforms for the 2024-25 season weren't well regarded, and they played so poorly in them that they stopped wearing them around midseason. This coming season, the Lakers will be recycling their City Edition uniforms from the 2023-24 campaign, per the team's official X (formerly Twitter) account. When this design was first unveiled two years ago, plenty thought it was at least somewhat uninspired and even boring. The fact that the team is simply using it again instead of coming up with a new one has led to fans expressing their disappointment. On a brighter note, the Lakers' Statement Edition uniforms have been improved. The black stripe down the sides that they had has been removed, and the team's wordmark and the player numbers are now in white with gold trim. Now, if only L.A.'s Icon Edition uniforms would go with gold instead of yellow as their primary color, the team's fans would likely be happy enough with its on-court threads. Carlisle United set for final pre-season test at Chester
Carlisle United No2 Frankie McAvoy says the Blues will weigh up carefully how to approach their final friendly at Chester today. The Cumbrians head to the Deva Stadium (3pm) for their last pre-season outing ahead of the new National League season. The game comes a week before the 2025/26 curtain-raiser at Woking. And Mark Hughes' first-team coach McAvoy says it will be approached very much with that opening league fixture in mind. 'It's the last one, and we're looking again to see how the squad's starting to take shape, with a view to Woking the following Saturday,' McAvoy said. 'After the two games we've had when players have had 90 minutes, at Harrogate at Curzon Ashton, we'll sit with the manager and we'll decide how we're going to tackle the game, with a view to being aware that we've got Woking coming up shortly after that.' Chester's Deva Stadium is today's venue for United (Image: PA) It remains to be seen whether any of United's recently sidelined players will return to action today. McAvoy earlier this week said Gabe Breeze was being assessed after returning to the club following illness. Other injured players could again miss out, while Hughes could again involve Bevis Mugabi in the squad after the defender's 45-minute outing at Curzon Ashton. A decision on the future of trialist midfielder Jed Abbey is also pending. The game against Calum McIntyre's side will be the fourth encounter with National League North opposition this pre-season. Chester narrowly missed out on promotion last term, losing to Scunthorpe United in the play-off final. Their side today could include former Carlisle striker Offrande Zanzala, who joined the Seals this summer. He scored in Chester's latest friendly, a 1-1 draw at Glentoran last Saturday. Ex-United striker Offrande Zanzala is on Chester's books (Image: PA) McAvoy believes United's games against sixth-tier sides have offered them a worthwhile test ahead of the National League campaign. 'The way that Curzon set up in the first part of the game on Tuesday…we'll need to be able to break teams [like that] down, be patient and hopefully our quality can shine through and we can get the goals that we're required to win the games,' he said. 'I think every test that we've had in pre-season has been a good test for us and I expect nothing less [from Chester]. 'They were a bit unfortunate that they didn't get promoted. So it's going to be a good test for us.'
