New-look Lionesses head to Switzerland looking to conquer Europe once again
The Lionesses are tasked with defending their first major title at this summer's European Championship, having lifted the trophy at Wembley and transformed women's football across the country.
But four of Sarina Wiegman's unchanged starting line-up from 2022 have now retired.

Ellen White hung up her boots shortly after, then Rachel Daly retired from international football in 2024.
FIFA Best and Sports Personality of the Year-winning goalkeeper Mary Earps shockingly called time on her England career late last month, quickly followed by attacking midfielder Fran Kirby.
Add an announcement from World Cup captain Millie Bright, who made herself unavailable for selection in order to address her physical and mental health, and some started to wonder if this could be a summer of struggle for England.
But the Lionesses have brushed aside that speculation, insisting once again this is a 'new England' ahead of their title defence.
While many of Wiegman's 13 2022 returnees – like Arsenal striker Alessia Russo and Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton – have significantly stepped up in responsibility, seven major tournament newcomers will also be looking to make their mark.
Aggie Beever-Jones has enjoyed a breakout season at Chelsea, last month completing a hat-trick on her Wembley debut for England, while 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang – who has returned to Arsenal after a Brighton loan spell – scored 41 seconds into her maiden senior international appearance in April.
Stalwarts like Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze – heading into her seventh major tournament and fourth consecutive Euros – will provide the experience.
And while England may not be able to replicate the magic of that maiden trophy on home soil, winning one away from home would be another historic achievement.
Wales, meanwhile, qualified for their first major tournament after beating the Republic of Ireland in a dramatic 2-1 second-leg victory to win their play-off 3-2 on aggregate.
Boss Rhian Wilkinson has used Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Wales' highest peak, as a metaphor for their mission in Switzerland.
Wales are the lowest-ranked team in the Euros, drawn in a very difficult group with holders England, 2017 winners the Netherlands and 2022 semi-finalists France, but Wilkinson has insisted her side are not simply just happy to be included.

Speaking from the top of Yr Wyddfa, she said: 'As we've moved towards the Euros we've talked about the summit, the Everest part of it. That something is impossible until it isn't.
'Outside Wales people can think whatever they want.
'Our goal is to show up and deliver to the best of our ability. I am sure people will be looking up Wales on a map very soon.'

TAMMY ABRAHAM is set for a move to Turkey with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Besiktas. The England striker has spend the last four seasons in Italy after laving boyhood club Chelsea. 2 Abraham, 27, joined Roma in 2021 and netted 37 times in 120 appearances for I Giallorossi. His arrival would bolster a squad full of ex-Premier League talent, including Arsenal and Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and ex- Spurs disappointment Gedson Fernandes. 2 The deal would spark Besiktas' quiet transfer window into life, with their only other business so far being making last year's loan signings of Felix Uduokhai and Joao Mario permanent. Roma appointed former Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini as they're new manager earlier this month, throwing Abraham's future into uncertainty. Abraham would be the latest in a series of Roma departures, with midfielder Enzo le Fee, full-back Samuel Dahl and winger Nicola Zalewski all completing permanent moves away from the club this summer. Abraham moved to Italy for a fee of £35m four years ago after he failed to cement himself in the Chelsea set-up.

Frankfurt finisher Ekitike could be the answer for Mikel Arteta
Arsenal's long search for a striker capable of scoring the goals to lead them to their first Premier League title in 22 years has switched to another target, Frenchman Hugo Ekitike. The Gunners have been linked with a number of forwards already this summer with Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Bradley Barcola from Paris-Saint Germain and many others reported to be on their radar. The latest suggestion is Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ekitike is also on their shopping list although there's fierce competition to sign the 23-year-old France international with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United weighing up potential swoops. Ekitike scored 22 goals for the Bundesliga club last season and his finishing is exactly what is required at Arsenal, who were runners-up once again last term with Liverpool easing to the title. Mikel Arteta's long journey to bring his process at Emiratesto fruition and end that unwanted streak without the championship have not been helped by the Reds and Manchester City already making major moves in the transfer market. With Arne Slot having already spent more than £200million on new recruits this summer his chances of signing Ekitike may have to be placed on hold until the expected departure of Darwin Nunez to Serie A champions Napoli is completed. Getting £60million for their Uruguay striker would offset the £40m needed to sign Ekitike and help balance the books with Jarell Quansah on his way to Leverkusen and Andrew Robertson and Harvey Elliott also set to leave Anfield. The Reds are 4/1 with bet365 to win the Ekitike sweepstakes with Chelsea 13/2 with Unibet and BetMGM while all three firms have him heading to Old Trafford at 8/1. All Scotland matches should be broadcast on 'council telly', Labour Government told
MSP have written to Labour Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to demand qualifying matches are added to a list of sporting events which must be shown on free-ot-air channels. The UK Government has been urged to put Scotland's World Cup and European Championship qualifying matches permanently on 'council telly'. A Holyrood committee has written to Labour Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to include the games in the list of sporting events which have to be shown on free-ot-air channels. These include events such as the Olympics, the Wimbledon finals and both the FA Cup final and the Scottish Cup final. The finals of football's World Cup and European Championship are also included in the list, but the qualifying matches for these tournaments are not. BBC Scotland has already promised there will be 'free-to-air access to all Scotland's international matches ' in the run-up to the World Cup in 2026. But it has still not been confirmed what will happen after next year's tournament. Clare Adamson, convener of Holyrood's Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee, asked Nandy to set out the UK Government's position on including Scotland's qualifiers on the list. In a separate letter, Adamson has asked Holyrood Culture Secretary Angus Robertson for the Scottish Government's view on requiring the international teams' qualifying matches to also be shown on free-to-air channels. Scottish Football Association (SFA) chief executive Ian Maxwell has also been contacted for his view on making such a change. BBC Scotland airing the games followed a long campaign from the Record to get the fixtures on 'council telly'. Games had previously been shown on Scandinavian broadcaster ViaPlay. Some matches were only streamed on YouTube, while others had to be paid for through a subscription. This was despite England and Wales matches being shown on terrestrial TV. Scotland's World Cup qualifiers start in Denmark in September. Alongside the Danes we will also play Greece and Belarus. The winner of the group will go to the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico next year. The second place team will have to compete for a place through the playoffs. The Scottish and UK governments and the SFA have all been contacted for comment.
