Florida Atlantic hires Nova Southeastern's LeAnn Freeland as new women's basketball coach

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Florida Atlantic hired LeAnn Freeland as its new women's basketball coach on Tuesday.
Freeland comes to the Owls after 13 seasons as the coach at Division II's Nova Southeastern, which is only about 30 miles south of FAU's campus. Freeland went 274-124 in her 13 seasons at Nova Southeastern, including 27-7 this past season.
'Having lived and coached in this area for quite some time, I've seen first-hand the awesome things happening at Florida Atlantic,' Freeland said. 'I know there is tremendous potential for the women's basketball program to be successful, and we will hit the court and recruiting trails as soon as possible to build a championship program.'
At FAU, Freeland — who went to the Division II Elite Eight four times at Nova Southeastern — is replacing Jennifer Sullivan. The Owls announced that Sullivan stepped down last week after four seasons to take a job as an assistant coach at Missouri.
The Owls were 11-21 this season, have not finished a season over the .500 mark since 2013-14 and have not had a 20-win season since 2005-06.

Royals reacquire Adam Frazier in an All-Star break trade with the Pirates
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals reacquired veteran utility player Adam Frazier on Wednesday in an All-Star break trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kansas City sent minor league infielder Cam Devanney to Pittsburgh. Frazier, 33, has played in 78 games this season split between second base, left field and right field, hitting .255 with 21 RBIs. He spent last season with KC after bouncing around the majors following his start with the Pirates and has played every position except catcher and pitcher during his career since debuting in 2016. Frazier joins the Royals as they are 4 1/2 games back of the American League's final wild-card spot. They are 12 games behind Detroit for first in the AL Central. Healy, only the fourth Irish rider ever to hold the yellow jersey , still leads by 29 seconds from Pogačar. After the first rest day on Tuesday, Wednesday's stage was a 156.8-kilometre loop from Toulouse back to the southern 'Pink City' with views of the Pyrenees. It was expected to suit the sprinters, though there was a sting in the tail with a 20% incline on the Côte de Pech David before the finish. Abrahamsen attacked with 155 kilometers to go and was joined by Schmid and Davide Ballerini, prompting persistent attacks from the likes of Van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Victor Campenaerts.
