Khargone: An electricity distribution company employee was arrested on Thursday for stealing a mortgaged car using a duplicate key in Maheshwar.
Maheshwar police station in-charge Jagdish Goyal told TOI that an employee of MP Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company, Jitendra, was arrested along with the stolen car.
He said that a resident of Pardeshipura in Indore, Kishore Gehlod, had borrowed money from Golu Sharma of Indore. Unable to repay it, Kishore mortgaged his car to Golu who then began to rent it out. During this time, a Bhopal resident Ishwar rented this car to go to Maheshwar.
When Ishwar parked the car in a hotel in Maheshwar, Kishore got to know about it and gave the vehicle's duplicate key to his brother-in-law, Jitendra alias Jeet.
Jeet stole the car parked in front of the hotel and hid it in the grid of the electricity distribution company located in his hometown of Julwania in Barwani district.
Acting on Ishwar's complaint, the police recovered the car parked in Julwania with the help of CCTV cameras and arrested Jeet. After stealing the car with the help of his brother-in-law, Kishore had informed Golu Sharma that his car was stolen and that he should retrieve it.

‘Tisri Gali' gang booked under GujCTOC

Surat: The Navsari police have invoked the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crimes Act (GujCTOC) against seven members of the notorious 'Tisri Gali' gang from Bilimora town. The gang earned notoriety for its brutal modus operandi — breaking the legs of anyone who dared to complain against them. In 2021, the gang even murdered a member of the rival Antaliya gang. Multiple anonymous complaints from residents of Navsari district prompted police to take strict action under GujCTOC. Following the invocation of the stringent law, police arrested six out of the seven accused. Those in custody include gang leader Amin Shaikh, along with Ronak Patel alias Bobdo, Kevin Patel, Manoj Patil, Gaurav Chotaliya and Maaz Shaikh. The seventh accused, Sabir Ansari, is still absconding but is expected to be arrested soon. Navsari superintendent of police (SP) Sushil Agrawal told TOI, the gang earned the name 'Tisri Gali' because it operated from the third lane near Bilimora railway station. "Since 2017, they have been involved in 42 serious crimes officially registered with Navsari police," he said. Agrawal added that the gang had instilled fear among locals by breaking the legs of anyone who dared to complain against them, leading to numerous anonymous complaints. The gang primarily operated in Bilimora and Chikhli, as well as in Gandevi and Khergam areas. "In one case, the gang kidnapped a person from Ahmedabad's Naranpura area and brought him to Vansda," SP Sushil Agrawal said. "With the invocation of GujCTOC, we are confident that residents will finally get relief from such anti-social elements." Following the invocation of the stringent law on Thursday, police teams fanned out to multiple locations. One accused was caught in Amalner, Maharashtra, another in Jaipur, Rajasthan, while the remaining four were arrested in Navsari district.

35 stone crushers sealed near Ganga in Haridwar after high court order

Haridwar: A stone crushers sealing committee set up by the Haridwar district magistrate following a high court directive, sealed 35 units along the Ganga river in Haridwar and disconnected their electricity supply during sealing operations targeting 48 stone crushers on Friday. The matter came to light when Haridwar-based Matri Sadan, an ashram involved in environmental protection, approached the Nainital high court in 2017 regarding stone crushers operating within five kilometres of the Ganga river, from Raiwala to Bhogpur, raising concerns of rampant quarrying threatening the sustainability of the river. Although the Uttarakhand govt permitted the crushers to operate based on the law department's legal counsel, Matri Sadan contested this decision as "unlawful and unconstitutional" and filed another petition in the high court, which ultimately mandated the sealing of all 48 stone crushing units. They also alleged that the mining lobby could attack its seers and the govt should provide Matri Sadan security, which had been lifted earlier. District mining officer Kazim Raza told TOI, "We sealed 35 stone crushers on Friday and disconnected their electricity connections. We had closed their online portal earlier so they're unable to issue challans. The rest of the stone crushers will be sealed on Saturday." Brahmchari Sudhanand, a seer of Matri Sadan involved in the litigation, said, "All stone crushers lying within five kilometres of the Ganga and other rivers in the district should be closed, as they are the root cause of illegal mining in the rivers. We will put this demand before the court at the next hearing."
