Renée Zellweger sparks engagement rumors with Ant Anstead at Bridget Jones 4 premiere

Independent30-01-2025
Renée Zellweger 's latest public appearance has caused many fans to speculate that she might be hiding an engagement ring.
At the London premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy on Wednesday (January 29), the actor turned heads in a strapless hot pink gown. However, there was one particular accessory that sparked rumors of her engagement to her boyfriend, Ant Anstead.
As Zellweger walked the red carpet and posed for photos, she was seen wearing two bandaids wrapped around her ring finger, leading people to suggest she was hiding an engagement ring.
While Anstead did not appear alongside Zellweger on the red carpet, he did meet up with her as they attended the movie's after-party together, with the actor still wearing the two bandaids as they were pictured holding hands leaving the party at Brasserie Zédel.
The Jerry Maguire actor has not yet addressed the rumors.
Zellweger and Anstead have been dating since 2021 after they met on Anstead's Discovery+ series Celebrity IOU Joyride.
The couple has previously addressed their relationship through subtle comments. During a Q & A session with British Vogue, her Bridget Jones costar Hugh Grant asked Zellweger why she lived near San Diego, California as her answer involved Anstead.
'Because that's where my fellow lives, and his little boy,' she replied.
At another point during the interview, she was asked why she went on an acting hiatus from 2010 to 2016. 'I was sick of the sound of my own voice,' Zellweger said.
'When I was working, I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?' It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.'
However, the actor said she was actually quite busy during her break from acting.
'I wrote music and studied international law. I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godchildren and driving across the country with the dogs,' she explained. 'I got healthy.'
Anstead was previously married to Louise Storey from 2005 to 2017. They share a daughter, Amelie, and a son, Archie. After their divorce, he married American TV personality and real estate investor Christina Hall in 2018. They share a son, Husdon, who was born in 2019. The couple divorced in 2021.
Meanwhile, Zellweger was previously married to country singer Kenny Chesney from 2002 to 2005 and was later in a long-term relationship with Doyle Bramhall II until 2019.
When Anstead and Hall announced their split, Hall shared a statement on social media, writing: 'Ant and I have made the difficult decision to separate. We are grateful for each other and as always, our children will remain our priority.'

Strictly Come Dancing 'sign Ellie Goldstein' after she 'breaks barriers'

Strictly Come Dancing is said to have signed a huge model to appear on the upcoming series, which is set to start in the coming months, with the pros already in rehearsals A huge model is said to have signed up for Strictly Come Dancing. Rumours are currently swirling over who may be taking to the dancefloor this year, but one star is gearing up for a show, first having previously smashed through barriers. ‌ Reports claim that model Ellie Goldstein is the latest famous face who will be dancing in front of Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke, and Motsi Mabuse. Ellie is said to be "thrilled" having already signed the contract for the show, which is believed to kick off in just a matter of weeks. ‌ Ellie, 23, has already broken barriers in the industry, having become the first model with Down syndrome to appear on the front cover of British Vogue back in 2023, as well as being honoured with her own Barbie doll, which is stocked across the globe. It comes after Strictly's Anton Du Beke shared heartbreak over wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis. ‌ READ MORE: John Torode's businesses collapsed after racking up eye-watering debts "Ellie is thrilled to be taking part in Strictly," a source said. They went on to tell The Sun: "She has broken down so many barriers in her career, from modelling for Gucci to being the first model with Down syndrome to appear on the cover of Vogue. "Ellie can't wait to get started on the show and show people what she can do." The source went on to explain that having Ellie on the show is something that the BBC is "incredibly proud of", as they love to break stigmas. "Ellie is a fantastic signing and they think she could go all the way," the insider added. ‌ She joins the likes of EastEnders ' Balvinder Sopal, Dani Dyer, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Chris Robshaw for the upcoming series. Although CBeebies presenter George Webster appeared in the Christmas special back in 2022, Ellie is the first participant with Downs syndrome to appear on the main show. And Strictly is something the Essex-born star has always dreamed of. Ellie's parents had been told that she would never be able to talk or walk after being born with Down syndrome; now, she has defied the odds. "I am proving people wrong, and I am a role model for people like me," Ellie said. She added: "Doctors said I wouldn't talk, but now I never stop talking! You should always believe in yourself." And she's made it no secret what she thinks of Strictly. She said previously: "My absolute favourite thing in the world is dancing. ‌ "One day I would love to be on Strictly Come Dancing. I went to watch it being filmed a few weeks ago, but I didn't want to be in the audience, I wanted to be on the dancefloor." Meanwhile, the show has confirmed that there will be two new faces in the professional dancing line-up for this year. Joining the glitzy ballroom this autumn are Alexis Warr from the U.S. and Australia 's Julian Caillon, both set to make their debut on the hit BBC One series. Warr made history in 2022 as the first female ballroom and Latin dancer to win So You Think You Can Dance, earning the title of America's favourite dancer. On joining Strictly Come Dancing, Warr said: "I've admired Strictly for years, so joining this incredible family is such an honour. I can't wait to step into the ballroom, pour my heart into every moment, and share my love of dance with the UK." Caillon, who specialises in ballroom and Latin American, has appeared as a professional dancer for three seasons of Australia's version of Strictly Come Dancing, titled Australia's Dancing With The Stars. He said: "Joining the cast of Strictly really is a dream come true. I've watched it for years, especially cheering on all the amazing dancers I know and work with who've been part of it," adding: "I can't wait to get stuck in, have some fun, and be part of something special!"

I watched America's answer to Virgin Island and all my fears were confirmed

Not all virgin dating shows were created equal it would appear Virgins appear to be the hot new thing in the world of reality TV, with a flurry of shows springing up that are centred around getting people who have never had sex to do the deed. ‌ Channel 4's Virgin Island left audiences squirming in their seats initially, but it swiftly broke records (and taboos) and is now casting for a second season. ‌ The show sent 12 young adults from the UK who had never had sex to a tropical island where they practiced intimacy with trained professionals and even engaged in full-on sexual acts with designated 'sex surrogates'. ‌ At a first glance you could easily have thoughts that it was simply titillating TV at the expense of its young and vulnerable stars, but that wasn't the case. The hands-on approach the show's therapists took drew criticism yes, but it never poked fun at or exploited its cast, instead it held them. The young stars emerged from the series with a newfound confidence that showed the power of the admittedly unconventional teaching approach, and after the show aired, they rushed to its defence when critics took aim. ‌ Given how invested I became in Virgin Island, I was really intrigued when I heard about another virgin reality dating show coming to UK streaming platform Discovery+ this week, simply titled Virgins. The synopsis for the US-based show, which initially aired on TLC, reads: "Follow a group of inexperienced virgins on their quest to finally seal the deal. Experience their socially awkward moments and hilarious dating disasters as they attempt to find a relationship that will finally take them all the way." ‌ Unlike Virgin Island, which honed in on virgins all under the age of 30, Virgins follows four 'late bloomers' who range in age from 34 to 42. While I was really pleased to see a bigger age range represented on the show, my joy didn't last for long. In one scene, the camera lingers too long on one star's hairy back and belly, offering up his insecurities on a plate for audiences ready to devour. In another scene, we see 42-year-old Rhasha in a therapy session. When she reveals she is a virgin despite previously being married, her therapist looks visibly shocked rather than remaining judgement-free. The digs at Virgins' stars are subtle but insidious, and rather than challenging the beliefs of viewers it encourages them. To its credit, Virgins doesn't bill itself as a sensitive show. It's clear from the synopsis what you're going to get, and I suspect its stars knew and were prepared for what they were letting themselves in for. However, those looking for a sensitively handled show on virginity should maybe swerve this one and stream Virgin Island instead.
