Netflix and Applause Entertainment confirm season 2 of Zahaan Kapoor and Vikramaditya Motwane's 'Black Warrant'
Following the critical acclaim and audience love for its gripping first season, Black Warrant will return for a Season 2. Presented by Applause Entertainment, an Andolan Production in association with Confluence Media, Black Warrant is based on the book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury.
With Zahan Kapoor emerging as a breakout star and the narrative receiving widespread praise for its realism and intensity, the show's renewal further cements Applause's growing slate of powerful, homegrown franchises that push the boundaries of Indian storytelling.

As the story dives deeper into the human truths of incarceration and redemption, Black Warrant Season 2, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, promises to raise the stakes, led by a creative partnership between Netflix, Applause, Andolan and Confluence that continues to set the benchmark for premium drama.
In an interview with Firstpost, real-life jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta revealed, 'I am against the death sentence because mostly this is given to poor prisoners who are marginalised because they can't get good advocates to fight their cases, so they are hanged.
I would advise them to give longer prison terms, say 30 to 40 years or even 50 years.
Even in the Nirbhaya case I was against the death sentence. In my experience as a jailer I have seen that the death sentence is given to poor people who cannot afford a private advocate. See Surendra Koli is out after killing dozens of people because he could afford a lawyer.'
He added, 'Criminals can be reformed, but it is difficult. I would say only 2 to 3 percent of criminals do't have an inclination to get reformed. The important tool for reforming them is to make them educated. We have open school and distance education in jail from where the prisoners are passing their 10th and 12th standard exams and even their graduation and post-graduation exams.'

Over a month after businessman and actor Karisma Kapoor's former husband Sunjay Kapur died of a heart attack while playing polo in London, his mother Rani Kapur has written to the board of directors of family-owned auto components firm Sona Comstar — a part of Indian conglomerate Sona Group — suggesting that she had been 'forced to sign documents behind locked doors' and 'left to the mercy of a select few for survival'. The letter was written by Rani Kapur hours before an annual general meeting (AGM) of the company was scheduled for Friday. The letter, in which Rani identified herself as the majority shareholder of the Sona Group, stated: 'I was approached multiple times and compelled to sign various documents without explanation or even having time to read and understand the same. Despite being under immense mental and emotional distress, I was coerced into signing such documents behind locked doors… the contents of such documents have never been revealed to me.' In the letter, which was also copied to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Rani also alleged that she has lost access to all her bank accounts. 'Please also take note that I have been totally denied access to my accounts and have been left to the mercy of a select few for survival. All this, in less than a month of my only son passing away,' she said. Rani further said that her late husband, Surinder Kapur — the founder of Sona Group, who had passed away in 2015 — had, via a will dated June 30, 2015, made her the sole beneficiary of his estate and also a majority shareholder of the Sona Group. 'It is unfortunate that while the family and I are still in mourning, some people have chosen this as an opportune time to wrest control and usurp the family legacy,' she wrote while requesting that the AGM be postponed by two weeks. She further alleged that in the AGM, a resolution would be passed to appoint certain directors in the company as representatives of the Kapur family, without her involvement. 'Unfortunately, once again, nothing has been told or explained, let alone discussed with me regarding the same by the company or people involved,' she said. Rani, who is being represented by senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar and advocate Smriti Churiwal, added that she had 'not given any consent or officially nominated any person to come on the board of the company or any other Sona Group company after my son's demise or given any consent to any person to represent me in any capacity before the company and or any other Sona Group company'. The Indian Express has learnt that Sona Comstar, while denying all allegations, has said that it did not defer its AGM — which was 'scheduled in full compliance with the law' — despite the request from Rani Kapur, as she is not a shareholder in the company. On June 12, Sunjay Kapur died at the age of 53 following a heart attack. Some reports claimed that he had swallowed an insect while playing polo, which possibly sent his body into shock.

Last Updated: Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga confirms Prabhas, Triptii Dimri's Spirit starts filming in September with back-to-back schedules. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has officially confirmed that his much-anticipated film Spirit, starring Prabhas and Triptii Dimri, will begin shooting in September 2025. The announcement came during a recent chat with Vijay Deverakonda and filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri on the Sithara Entertainments YouTube channel. Sandeep revealed that Spirit will have back-to-back schedules and a non-stop shooting plan once it hits the floors. Spirit made headlines earlier this year when Deepika Padukone exited the project following disagreements over working hours and compensation. Reports suggested that Deepika was advocating for a strict eight-hour workday, a demand that could not be accommodated by the production team. Following her exit, Triptii Dimri was roped in to play the female lead opposite Prabhas. According to reports by Rangasthalam, Sandeep has already completed the musical compositions for Spirit in collaboration with composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar. Backed by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures, Spirit is one of the most awaited action dramas in Indian cinema and is expected to hit theatres in 2027. The film reportedly presents Prabhas in a never-seen-before avatar, adding to fans' excitement. Earlier, a source close to the project revealed, 'Sandeep Reddy Vanga wants to shoot for Spirit in a certain way and has requested Prabhas to acquire a lean physique. The idea is to ensure most stunts are performed by Prabhas himself. The Rebel Star is excited about the challenge and is working closely with Sandeep to mold himself into the character." After wrapping up Spirit, Sandeep will begin scripting Animal Park, the much-anticipated sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Animal.
