Emirates NBD to Maintain Free DirectRemit Transfers to Six Countries Amid New Fee Structure
Emirates NBD has confirmed that its DirectRemit money transfer service will remain free of charge for transfers to six key countries, despite the introduction of a new international transfer fee from 1 September 2025. This clarification follows a recent communication to customers stating that a fee of AED 26.25 (inclusive of VAT) would be applied to international transfers made via the bank's app or online banking. However, in a statement to Khaleej Times, a spokesperson for the bank assured that DirectRemit transfers to India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and the UK will continue to be free for all Emirates NBD customers, provided a minimum transfer amount of AED 100. 'Emirates NBD remains committed to providing seamless and cost-effective banking solutions for our valued customers,' the spokesperson said. 'As part of this commitment, DirectRemit transfers to India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and the UK will continue to be offered free of charge.' The bank also announced plans to expand its DirectRemit service to over 30 additional countries. For these new corridors, as well as all other international transfers, customers will be subject to a nominal transfer fee of up to AED 26.25 (inclusive of VAT). Notably, customers will no longer incur correspondent bank charges. Emirates NBD Private Banking, Priority Banking, and Personal Banking Beyond clients will continue to benefit from free DirectRemit and international transfers. DirectRemit is a digital remittance service that enables Emirates NBD customers to send money to select countries, including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the UK, in under 60 seconds via online or mobile banking.

Dubai Land Department Expands Real Estate Broker Programme to Emirati Citizens
The Dubai Land Department (DLD) has opened registration for Emirati citizens to join its 'Dubai Real Estate Broker Programme' through a dedicated portal, reinforcing its commitment to increasing national participation in the real estate sector. The move comes in response to high interest from citizens since the programme's launch. Already surpassing 180% of its annual target, the initiative has trained a growing number of Emiratis, supported by partnerships with accredited institutions and private sector stakeholders. Participants who complete the required training receive a three-year real estate broker card, enabling them to operate legally in the market. To date, transactions by programme brokers have exceeded AED 500 million, and 231 new brokerage firms have been licensed. DLD has held over 10 collaborative meetings with 71 strategic partners, including real estate developers, brokerage firms, and training institutes, to build an integrated support ecosystem. The programme is also introducing an incentive system, awarding evaluation points to firms that employ Emirati brokers, boosting their competitive market standing. Aligned with the Dubai Social Agenda 2033, the programme aims to empower Emiratis through skill development, employment opportunities, and participation in major real estate projects. SEWA implements ambitious water network projects in Kalba
Among these, a water pipeline extension from Kalba to Wadi Al Helo has been completed at a cost of AED 47 million, with 98% of the project completed. Furthermore, the pipeline extension for the Jabal Deem project has been completed in 59% of its entirety, and 50% of the Transco line extension to the desalination facility has been completed. The primary pipelines, which span 2,184 meters, have been installed in various regions of Kalba. SEWA also approved 104 water project plans, issued 93 land clearance certificates, connected water services to 119 residential, governmental, industrial, commercial, and temporary properties, replaced 168 meters of old main lines, tested 133 smart meters, replaced 66 meters, and issued two well drilling permits. Significant Completed Works Engineer Yousef Al Hammadi, Director of SEWA's Kalba Department, explained that several key projects have been completed in recent months. These include extending a pipeline from the industrial area to Al Ghayl station at a cost of AED 5 million, replacing a main line in Tareef 4 for AED 1.6 million, and extending a water line to the new industrial area (Phase One) at a cost of AED 4 million. Water connections were also provided to various government and development projects. Furthermore, the Union Water and Electricity pipeline was integrated into SEWA's network in the Tareef area to be used in emergencies. Future Expansion Plans Al Hammadi added that future plans for Kalba's water projects include constructing a 20-million-gallon reservoir to meet the city's growing water needs, replacing old AC lines with GRE lines in Al Khuwair (Phase Two), and extending pipelines for new development projects announced by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, such as Al Hayar Lake and Jabal Deem's main station. Other plans include a new main line extension from the industrial area to Al Ghayl and the second phase of the water line extension to the new industrial area. 2024 Project Achievements He further noted that in 2024, SEWA accomplished numerous water distribution projects, including laying 6,897 meters of main pipelines across Kalba, approving 263 water project plans, issuing 352 land clearance certificates, connecting water services to 718 residential, governmental, industrial, commercial, and temporary properties, replacing 755 meters of old main lines, testing 351 smart meters, replacing 62 meters, and issuing four well drilling permits.
