Where to launch kayaks, canoes and river tubes in Bucks County
Here are some options for getting a vessel into the water this summer.
Permits aren't required for river tubes, but if you plan to launch a kayak or canoe from a Pennsylvania state park or forest, such as Nockamixon State Park in Upper Bucks County, all kayaks and canoes must display one of the following:
Boat registration from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission;
Launching permit from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, which can be applied for online at huntfish.pa.gov;
Or a Pennsylvania state park launching permit or mooring permit, which is available in-person at most state park offices.
If you're heading out to a county-owned park or launch access, then you'll need an additional Bucks County launch permit, which can be purchased online or in-person at one of the county boat rental facilities at Core Creek Park in Middletown or Peace Valley Park in New Britain.

Bucks County is full of lakes and creeks to boat in. Here are a few favorites:

Ohio eatery named one of the best hotel restaurants in America by OpenTable
An eatery in Ohio was named one of the 100 best hotel restaurants in America for 2025. OpenTable recently released its "Top Hotel Restaurants for 2025" list, and Il Venetian in Cleveland was named on the list by the online restaurant reservation platform. The "upscale, modern Italian restaurant" features handmade pastas, fresh fish and seafood, fine meats, and artisan pastries and gelato, according to OpenTable. Some of the dinner menu highlights include grilled octopus, grilled long bone veal chop, wagyu carpaccio and blueberry risotto. The restaurant also features artwork, chandeliers, sculptures and glasswork imported from Venice and other Italian cities. "Above all, we offer a commitment to make food with love and care like they do in Italy," Il Venetian says on its website. The restaurant on East St. Clair Avenue in downtown Cleveland was the only restaurant in Ohio to make OpenTable's list. No Pittsburgh-area restaurants were selected this year. Il Venetian is open Monday through Friday for lunch and Monday through Saturday for dinner. It has a 4.8-star rating on OpenTable with 1,074 reviews. OpenTable said it found the best hotel restaurants in America for 2025 with the help of Kayak, a travel services website. The list was determined after reviewing more than 10,000,000 reviews from verified OpenTable diners and "dining metrics" from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. The metrics, OpenTable said, included the percentage of five-star reviews and diner ratings. "Trust us when we say these restaurants are worth the trip," OpenTable said of its list. Earlier this year, OpenTable released its "2025's Top 100 Brunch Restaurants" list, and Pier W in Cleveland was selected.

This 3,700-mile Trail Will Connect Washington State to Washington, D.C.—and 2,000 Miles Are Already Open to Travelers
The Great American Rail-Trail is a 3,700-mile car-free route that will eventually span from Washington, D.C., to Washington state, connecting 12 states. Over 2,000 miles of the trail are already open, offering walkers and cyclists a scenic, traffic-free way to travel, commute, and explore the outdoors. The project is expected to boost local economies and provide safe, sustainable transportation for millions of Americans. Imagine crossing the country not by highway or interstate, but on a scenic, car-free path built for walkers and cyclists. A trail where the hum of traffic is replaced by birdsong and the crunch of gravel, where you can set out for a morning jog, a bike ride to a neighboring town, or—if you're ambitious—a journey from coast to coast. That's the vision behind the Great American Rail Trail, an ambitious project that's already more than halfway complete. Spanning over 2,000 miles of open trail and eventually stretching 3,700 miles from Washington, D.C., to Washington state, the route stitches together a patchwork of rail-trails, greenways, historic paths, and multi-use trails that span across 12 states. At first glance, it might seem like a novelty—a feather in the national cap—but its potential impact is significant. According to project estimates on the Great American Rail Trail's website, the trail could generate more than $229 million in annual visitor spending, create over $100 million in labor income, and bring in nearly $23 million in new tax revenue. Perhaps even more importantly, it will give the tens of millions of people living along the route a safe, accessible way to connect with nature, commute between communities, and explore their own backyards—all without a car. The number of people impacted by the Rail Trail is even more significant when you zoom out and consider those who live within 50 miles of the route—or the tourists from other parts of the country or the world who will be able to enjoy the cross-country pathway. 'The Great American Rail-Trail has come to represent the potential of active transportation infrastructure that connects the nation,' said Ryan Chao, president of the Rails to Trails Conservancy, the organization that oversees the rail trail project, in a May 2024 press release that celebrated the rail-trail's fifth anniversary. 'It magnifies the opportunity for connected trail systems to deliver economic potential, quality of life, and safe mobility to millions of Americans.' Since the project's inception in May 2019, around 125 miles have been added to the patchwork of existing public-use trails. The full trail won't be finished for several decades. The Great American Rail-Trail is a signature project of Rails to Trails Conservancy, the largest trails organization in the U.S. The ambitious route wouldn't be possible without local, on-the-ground support from communities across the nation, trail organizations, and, of course, trail builders.
