
Speeding SUV kills man in Karachi, mob sets vehicle on fire
A speeding vehicle rammed into two pedestrians after breaching a green belt near Maskan Chowrangi in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Iqbal area late Sunday night, killing one man and seriously injuring another, police and rescue officials confirmed, Express News reported.
According to police, the vehicle was travelling at high speed from Disco Bakery towards Maskan Chowrangi when the driver lost control and veered across the median strip, striking two men who were seated outside a roadside hotel.
The deceased was identified as 42-year-old Saleem, who sustained fatal head and chest injuries. The injured man, Zeeshan, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The incident caused chaos in the area, with enraged bystanders surrounding the vehicle and setting it on fire. By the time police arrived, the SUV was engulfed in flames. The fire brigade later extinguished the blaze.
A police spokesperson from District East confirmed that three individuals from the vehicle, including the driver, have been taken into custody for questioning. "Initial investigations suggest the accident occurred due to speeding. The vehicle jumped the green belt and hit two people sitting on chairs outside a hotel," SHO Gulshan-e-Iqbal Naeem Rajput said.
In a related development, three men suspected of setting the vehicle on fire have also been detained, police added.
Chhipa Welfare spokesperson Chaudhry Shahid stated that the deceased suffered severe injuries to the head and ribs. According to Chhipa authorities, this fatality brings the number of deaths in road accidents in Karachi so far this year to 266.
Police say an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and whether any charges will be filed.

In such a case, the agency said, arrest could be warranted. The federal government formally established the NCCIA last year, replacing the Federal Investigation Agency's cybercrime wing. The new body had been tasked with handling a growing number of online offences. At the time of the NCCIA's creation, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had stated that the authority was set up to address issues such as online harassment, misinformation, and the spread of anti-state propaganda, while safeguarding the digital rights of citizens.

Another 'millionaire maid' arrested for jewellery theft in Karachi

The accused had been employed for 14 years at a residence in Khayaban-e-Tanzeem, Defence Housing Authority, where she allegedly stole cash, jewellery, and other valuables in small increments without raising suspicion. According to Investigating Officer Saeed Theem, Shahnaz had accumulated multiple cars, motorcycles, flats, and a grocery store, and maintained bank accounts containing millions of rupees. Her assets came to light during the course of an ongoing investigation.

Protest causes major traffic disruption in Punjab Colony, Karachi
Residents of Dada Bhai Building in Punjab Colony, Karachi, staged a protest against the prolonged suspension of electricity and water, blocking both roads leading to Defence Mor, Express News reported Electricity to the building's 80 flats has been out since 11am.
