Police baton-charge TRE-3 aspirants protesting near CM's residence in Patna over delay in results
Several protestors claimed they were injured in the police lathi-charge and warned of intensifying their agitation if the government failed to meet their demands. The TRE-3 aspirants said they had been protesting for the past four months, but had yet to receive a positive response from the authorities.
The situation escalated when the protestors, holding placards and banners, allegedly refused to vacate the prohibited area near the Chief Minister's residence despite repeated instructions from police officials. They instead raised slogans against the state government and the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), which conducted the examination.
Some protestors reportedly advanced towards the main gate of the Chief Minister's residence, prompting security personnel to intervene and disperse them. Police later used force to clear the crowd, leading to brief chaos in the prohibited zone. The situation was brought under control following the police action.
Deepa Singh, a protestor from Siwan, criticised the state government for not releasing the supplementary results of TRE-3. 'We are being treated like anti-social elements. We were holding a peaceful sit-in outside the CM's residence, but the police used force, injuring many,' she told reporters.

Nitish orders teacher vacancy count in state
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday announced that he has asked the education department to immediately assess the number of vacant teaching posts in govt schools so that recruitment can begin without delay. Significantly, for the first time, Bihar's domicile policy will be enforced during the recruitment process for the 35% of teaching posts reserved exclusively for women. Only women who are residents of Bihar will now be eligible for this quota, following a recent cabinet decision chaired by the chief minister. "We have asked the education department to immediately start the counting of vacancies on teachers' posts in govt schools and also start the process for making recruitments on them by conducting the teachers' recruitment examination (TRE-4.0)," the CM wrote on his social media handle. "The state govt had earlier made it clear that 35% of the posts will be reserved for women and this quota benefit will be only for women who are residents of Bihar," he added. In earlier recruitment drives conducted through the TRE process by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), the 35% quota had been availed by women from outside Bihar. Under the revised policy, such candidates will now have to compete under the general category. So far, around 3.25 lakh teachers have been appointed through the first three TRE examinations. However, it is understood that nearly 20,000 posts remained unfilled after TRE-3.0. The upcoming TRE-4.0, to be conducted by the BPSC, is expected to fill around 50,000 teaching vacancies. The recruitment will cover posts in primary (classes I-V), middle (classes VI-VIII), secondary (classes IX-X) and higher secondary (classes XI-XII) schools. The CM's move to accelerate teacher recruitment and assert the domicile policy is being viewed as an opportunity for unemployed teaching aspirants in Bihar. It is also seen as a political response aimed at neutralising persistent demands that govt appointments should prioritise state residents.

Bihar: Enhanced pension brings joy on faces of senior citizens and widows
Patna: The increased amount of pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100, announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, is bringing joy on the faces of elderly, widows as well as those with disabilities. The spike in pension amount, even if small, is contributing to their monthly expenses and helping them in addressing any exigencies. A programme to mark the spike in pension by the Nitish Kumar government was organised in Sheikhpura district of Bihar on Wednesday. A live telecast programme was organised at the town hall, in which male and female beneficiaries from across the district participated. District in-charge minister Raju Kumar Singh, District Magistrate Arif Ahsan, ADM and social security officials participated in this programme. Addressing the gathering, the minister-in-charge Raju Kumar Singh said the government is committed to the social and economic security of the senior citizens of the district. 'The number of beneficiaries of the old age pension scheme has increased this year, the elderly people of the state will receive financial support regularly,' he said. Beneficiary Sonpari Devi said that the Nitish Kumar-led government has been very kind to poor people. 'Earlier we used to get Rs 400 as pension, it was of no use to us... we used to face a lot of problems,' she said. She further said: 'Sometimes his son used to give his own food to her and he used to sleep hungry, but now the government has increased it to Rs 1,100, so we are not facing any problem.' She said that the government has done a lot for us elderly people and she and her family wish that Nitish government returns to power again. Notably, it was last month that the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announced enhancing the pension of senior citizens, widows and the specially-abled by Rs 700. The pension, which earlier stood at Rs 400 has now been increased to Rs 1100. The first instalment of the enhanced pension amount of Rs 1,100 per month was disbursed into bank accounts of over 11 million beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). According to official estimates, more than Rs 1,227 crore was credited into the accounts of people, including senior citizens and women, under six different pension schemes.
