Disney cruise passengers heard terrifying sound as girl fell overboard
The incident unfolded on Sunday morning around 11:15am as the cruise ship was sailing between Nassau and Grand Bahama Island, heading back toward Fort Lauderdale. Passengers were enjoying a typical day at sea when the chaos unfolded.
"There was some kind of commotion," said one guest, who witnessed the incident and filmed part of the rescue, posting it to TikTok under the username Chandler Sphynx.
"Then there was this awful scream from what I assume was the mother, and then this massive splash." She described the sound of the girl hitting the water as chilling. "It sounded like hitting pavement," she told People.
Within seconds, the ship's emergency alarm blared across the loudspeakers with the chilling call "MOB port side" - the maritime code for Man Overboard.
Passengers rushed to the railings as the magnitude of what had just occurred began to sink in.
Witnesses say the girl had fallen from the fourth deck, an area typically equipped with plexiglass barriers and used as a jogging track and viewing platform. Moments later, her father jumped from the same height in an attempt to rescue her. "The splash when he went in was so loud," Chandler said.
What followed was a harrowing 20-minute rescue effort. The ship, which weighs over 130,000 tons and can travel up to 25 miles per hour, immediately began to slow and maneuver as Disney's crew launched a bright yellow rescue boat.
Crew members aboard the vessel could be seen tossing life rings and flotation jackets into the sea as they made their way toward the father and daughter, who were struggling to stay afloat in the choppy Atlantic water.
For many passengers watching from balconies above, the wait felt endless. "I had to tell my daughter they were probably gone," Chandler admitted. "You just never expect them to survive something like that."
But the father somehow managed to keep his daughter's head above water, treading in open sea until help arrived. At around 11:47am, to the sound of applause from passengers above, the pair were pulled onto the rescue vessel and brought safely back on board.
Disney Cruise Line later confirmed that both guests were unharmed and praised their crew for their quick response. "The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water," the company said in a statement. "We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes."
The ship's captain addressed the incident in an onboard announcement, commending the crew and reminding all guests of the importance of following safety procedures during their voyage.
Disney officials say they are reviewing surveillance footage and investigating how the child came to fall from Deck 4, which includes protective glass barriers meant to prevent such accidents.
The Disney Dream, which entered service in 2010 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2023, is one of the flagship vessels of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, known for its family-friendly atmosphere.

A TANK top is a staple item in many wardrobes - particularly during summer. And one fashion lover claims to have found the perfect one that 'snatches in your fat', and it currently just £7.31. 6 6 6 TikTok user @nachyyin4k posed in a black tank top she picked up from TikTok Shop, and she said she also had snapped it up in red too. In the clip, the shopper paired the soft-looking top with a pair of black satin shorts, but you could also wear it with jeans or a skirt. She shared: 'I finally found a tank top that snatches your back fat, your boob fat, holds your boobs in place. 'You don't need to wear it with a bra or breast padding, totally optional. 'Comes in four different colours, I just could not wait until they dropped the white 'But I got it in red as well and I wore it on holiday multiple times. 'I am obsessed, I can't wait for them to drop the white. Please drop it.' Her video has racked up over 2,000 likes, and people seemed keen to snap the tank top up. One person wrote: 'They are so fitted and snatched.' Another added: 'You look so good," and a third commented: 'I have this , it's so good!' CELEB TANK TOP LOVE We previously shared how Kylie Jenner, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jennifer Lopez have all been spotted in the same wardrobe must-have. The three donned a white tank top, which won't break the bank. Les Girls' Rib Tank White is sold by Gooseberry for just $40. 6 6 The basic white tank also comes in gray for another neutral option, making it a closet essential. According to the brand, the cropped tank top is made of 100% cotton with a ribbed texture. Les Girls also recommends choosing your normal size due to a curve-hugging fit. Kylie Jenner wore the top during a closet tour promoting her clothing line, Khy. Meanwhile, J-Lo also rocked the simply chic style in a viral reel as she sipped Delola, her line of ready-to-drink cocktails. Fans complimented her style in the comments section, with one saying: "Yo this look on you, Jennifer, is by far the most fire look that I've seen in my life.' Anya Taylor-Joy wore the Les Girls style in an Instagram photo taken in Yosemite, making it a versatile choice, from lounging at home to going out in nature. Hottest fashion trends of 2025 Fabulous' Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend shares the biggest trends from the high street. The East/West Bag Baguette bags have had a good run, after returning from the 1990s' shoulders of Sarah Jessica Parker to modern-day fashion icons, like Hailey Bieber. In 2025, the East/West bag is a similar but elongated shape and has long, thin straps that are easy to throw over your shoulder. They've been on runway models' arms at nearly ever designer show - think Burberry, Givenchy and Bottega Veneta - and are hitting the high street now, too. Powder pink Bright fuchsia pink had its day after the release of Barbie in 2023 and now the more polished and expensive-looking pale shade is taking over for 2025. Pantone may say that it's the year of Mocha Mousse, but the catwalks say otherwise! From Prada to Erdem, the subtle look was all over the spring/summer catwalks, worn head-to-toe or on its own. If the sugary shade is too girly for you, then look to sharp suiting for a androgynous take on the colour. The shell jacket The '80s classic is back, but with a sleek and minimal new twist for 2025. We all know we're likely to see rain for most of spring, so your practical coat of choice should be a cagoule jacket. Depop revealed one of its big trend predictions for this year is retro sportswear, with surges already seen in '80s windbreakers'. Seen everywhere from the stylish streets of Copenhagen to the Miu Miu catwalk, now mums who have an emergency raincoat crumpled underneath their pushchair are very much in fashion! The turn-up jeans While the shape of jeans remains the same for this year and barrel-legs will still be everywhere, the way we're styling them is different. This season, transform your wide-leg, baggy denims into turn-ups. For this look, size doesn't matter, so while deep turn-ups are a hit from jean trend-leaders Citizens of Humanity, a slight fold is still just as good - but only as it's just one single fold. Peep-toe shoe Get your pedicures booked in sharpish, as this season your toes are the main event. After a long hiatus, the peep-toe has been welcomed back into the fashion fold, with brands like Hermes, Miu Miu and Tory Burch showing plain and embellished footwear in this style. From mules to pumps and clogs (yes, clogs will be around too!), there are lots of different styles that are set to sweep the high street. Sheer blouses See-through looks have always lived on the catwalk, but have rarely filtered into everyday life - until now. Designers Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford loved sheer looks on their S/S '25 catwalks and M&S even had sellout success with its black sheer pencil skirt last season. Expect to see more sheer looks lining supermarket aisles and high street shops in the form of skirts, tops and frocks.

I'm on universal credit but barely get by – I asked strangers on the internet to help but got slammed for ‘begging'
Plus, how you can earn money on the Creator Fund PARENTING PLEA I'm on universal credit but barely get by – I asked strangers on the internet to help but got slammed for 'begging' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A MUM on Universal Credits has asked strangers online for help 'safety-proofing' her whole flat for her and her daughter. Rhiannon put up a video asking users to watch her entire video as it would help net her cash through TikTok's Creator Fund. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Rhiannon asked people to watch her video in order to rack up views to make money on the TikTok Creator Fund Credit: tiktok/@rhiannonlouisexo/ 3 In the clip, she explained how she wants to 'safety-proof' her home, including adding a second stair gate Credit: tiktok/@rhiannonlouisexo/ In July 2020, the social media giant launched the Creator Fund to allow its users to earn money by raking in views. Generally speaking, according to HootSuite, TikTok Creator Fund influencers going viral with a million views a month may be able to add a mere $40 (£30) to their bank account. However, Rhiannon was not put off and made her plea in a video on her @rhiannonlouisexo account. She shared: 'Please stay for this whole minute video, as I'm trying to make money through the Creator Fund to basically safety-proof my whole flat. 'Because I have a three-year-old, and she's a climber and she's very accident-prone, and I'm gonna show you the things that I need to buy for my flat.' The first item on her wish list was a baby gate, because although she already has one on her daughter's room, she needs one for the kitchen. Rhiannon explained that at the moment they have to take it off and put it back on, which is tricky given the doors are different sizes. The second item she wants is a door lock for her bedroom, and she added that there are lots of items in there she doesn't want her daughter getting hold of. Next up were knob covers, and Rhiannon said: 'These are sort of just as a safety precaution, because I'm like an overthinker, like majorly.' The next safety item she wants is window locks. I'm a mum-of-2 on UC & fed up with people calling me a scrounger - yes I've got a £1.5k pram, I can have nice things too She explained that someone had told her the council 'should be able to do it', but she wasn't sure and was going to check. She said she needs around five to do the windows in her house. Rhiannon concluded her video: 'If you stayed all the way through this video, thank you so much.' Her video has racked up 17,000 views, but not everyone was too supportive in the comments. One said: 'In other words, please someone buy it for me. You are hilarious.' Another added: 'got enough money for makeup by the looks of it, which aint cheap, begging for money.' However, one commented: 'well done you for doing your best. it's not easy.' Rhiannon responded: 'I'm not asking for anyone's money. I'm asking for people to watch the video in order to make money. Bore off.' CASHING IN ON TIKTOK 3 Certain TikTokers are able to access the app's Creator Fund and earn some money Credit: Getty Although the revenue may seem lucrative, there are several requirements TikTok users need to be able to provide to successfully apply, such as being a legal resident of the US, UK, Germany, Italy, France or Spain. You also need to be at least 18 years of age, boast 10k authentic - not purchased - followers, and the videos have received at least 100k authentic views in the 30 days prior to applying, Backstage reported. According to Chris Kubbernus, CEO of Kubbco, a creative social media agency, hitting the required 10k-strong fanbase will most likely take 50–100 pieces of content, unless you already have a significant audience from another platform. Several factors come into play when determining what kind of money creators receive, such as the number of views, view authenticity, other ways of engagement, including likes, comments and shares, as well as the creator's location.
