Bihar announces India's first e-voting through mobile app: How does it work?

Bihar State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad on Friday (June 27, 2025) had shared the information to media that for the first time, voters in the Bihar municipal elections would be able to cast vote through mobile for six councils in Patna, Rohtas and East Champaran district on Saturday (June 28, 2025). The facilities are available for those people who are unable to go to polling booths to cast their votes. Senior citizens, disabled people and pregnant women can avail this option. How does the e-voting system work? Voters have to install the E-SECBHR app which is now currently available only for Android users Link your mobile number to the app as registered in the electoral roll After verification, you can cast a vote using the e-SECBHR app on the election day or the Bihar Election Commission's official website. One of the biggest fears of e-voting is the possible tampering, however, Mr. Prasad asserted that efforts have been made to maintain transparency and the voting process would be smooth and fair. Methods to prevent tampering Only two registered voters are allowed to log in using one mobile number Verification of each voter is being done by entering the vote id number. Other security measures taken Blockchain technology ensures that votes are recorded and saved in a secure, immutable system Facial recognition and matching assist in the verification of voter identities during login and voting. Till June 27 evening, around 10,000 voters have registered for mobile voting and around 50,000 voters are expected to cast their votes using websites. However, it was not mentioned whether this facility would be available during the upcoming Assembly election due in October-November 2025.

"All is well in AIADMK, BJP": Kovai Sathyan responds to Amit Shah's statement on 2026 TN polls

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan on Saturday welcomed the reported remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the BJP-AIADMK alliance and the chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Assembly elections. He said that all is well within the BJP-AIADMK alliance and that Edappadi K Palaniswami would lead the state again. Speaking to ANI, Sathyan responded to the controversy, saying, 'The problem is with the understanding of certain statements made by HM Amit Shah. All he said was that the alliance will form the government, and when asked about the question of CM, he said that it will be from the AIADMK.' He added, 'All is well in AIADMK and BJP, and the outcome will decide the course of the action, and the outcome is clear that Edappadi K Palaniswami will be the chief minister of Tamil Nadu post the 2026 Assembly elections.' On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 Assembly elections, with the BJP as a constituent. He further said that the chief ministerial candidate would be from the AIADMK; however, he did not name Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), the party's current general secretary. Meanwhile, the ruling DMK dismissed the idea of an AIADMK-BJP alliance's comeback in the state. While speaking to ANI, Party spokesperson TKS Elangovan said, 'They will not win. Even AIADMK people will not vote for the BJP. They have insulted Anna and Periyar. The number of MLAs they have now will reduce further.' Elangovan also targeted Tamil actor Vijay's newly formed political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), stating, 'Vijay formed the party to become the chief minister without any policy. What's his social language policy? He has no policy.' This remark stirred speculation amid ongoing debates about the dynamics of the BJP-AIADMK alliance ahead of the 2026 elections. (ANI)

AP's first super ECBC hub launched in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar inaugurated Andhra Pradesh's first Super ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) facility at Sagar Nagar here on Friday, calling it a milestone in integrating green design with public infrastructure. He described the centre as a reflection of the government's focus on sustainable development and energy efficiency. The minister urged power utilities to speed up the target of 20 lakh rooftop solar connections, with a minimum of 10,000 in each Assembly constituency. He also highlighted the government's commitment to uninterrupted 9-hour daytime power supply for farmers, especially under the PM-KUSUM solar irrigation scheme. The Super ECBC facility will function as a state-level training centre for the power sector workforce—from linemen to Chief Engineers. It houses SCADA, RMU, transformer, and meter testing labs, and will also offer induction training to new recruits. 'We aim to make this the best training centre in the country,' said Ravi Kumar. He announced that 180 compassionate appointments had been made in the last 18 months and assured that Rs 5 lakh was given without delay to each family affected by fatal work-related accidents. The minister also reaffirmed the government's goal to provide power to remote tribal and forest areas. Chief secretary K Vijayanand said the new facility doubles as a demonstration model for ECBC standards. APEPDCL CMD Prudhvi Tej Immadi said AT&C losses were reduced from 10.1 per cent to 7.5 per cent and distribution losses from 6.5 per cent to 5.8 per cent. MP M Sribharat and MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao praised APEPDCL's role in reforms and project execution. District collector M N Harendhira Prasad, MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, and senior officials also attended.
