Proud finish for Team Qatar at largest World University Games in Germany

The curtains came down on Team Qatar's participation at the Rhein- Ruhr 2025 FISU Summer World University Games, hosted by Germany in what was the largest edition of the event to date.
More than 8,500 athletes from 150 countries competed over 12 thrilling days, across 18 sports, in a spirited celebration of athletic excellence, cultural diversity, and global unity.
The closing ceremony, held on Sunday, was attended by HE Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, President of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) , members of Team Qatar delegation, Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Matthias Remund, FISU Secretary General, FISU Executive Committee members, heads of continental and national university sports federations, and a vibrant crowd of international young athletes.
Qatar delivered commendable performances in fencing, table tennis, taekwondo, and tennis. Maram Al Fatnassi made a significant breakthrough, finishing ninth in taekwondo, reflecting the steady rise of women's university sports in Qatar.
In fencing (foil), Abdullah Khalifa and Khalid Hussein demonstrated promise, placing 36th and 18th respectively. In table tennis, Abdullah Abdulwahab, Youssef Magdy, and Maryam Ali advanced to the second round of their singles competitions, showing resilience and determination.
Mubarakah Al Naimi represented Qatar in tennis, putting in a spirited performance.
The Rhein-Ruhr 2025 edition was largest in the history of World University Games, with 234 events across 18 sports, held in 23 venues spread across multiple German cities, including Berlin, Duisburg, and Bochum.
Commenting on the occasion, Rashid Saeed Adiba, QCSF Secretary-General, praised the technical and athletic performances of Team Qatar's male and female athletes, stating that the experience significantly enriched their skills and offered valuable exposure to elite-level university competition.
He emphasized that Qatar's participation reflects its strong commitment to the values of FISU : excellence, team spirit, innovation, and integrity and highlights the country's ambition to elevate university sports to new top standards.

Leverkusen striker Schick renews contract until 2030
DPA Dusseldorf Patrick Schick has renewed his Bayer Leverkusen contract by three years until 2030 and is ready to play an important role at the Bundesliga runners-up after the exit of several stars. Czech Republic striker Schick, 29, has scored 81 goals and provided 12 assists in 168 matches since arriving in 2020. He scored 21 Bundesliga goals last season. Al Duhail sign Frankfurt's Europa League winner Brazilian Tuta
TNN/QNA Doha Al Duhail Club has announced the signing of Brazilian defender Lucas Silva Melo, nicknamed 'Tuta', from German club Eintracht Frankfurt. The 26-year-old player, who plays as a center-back, has great experience, having started his professional career with Brazilian club Sao Paulo before moving to the German league through Eintracht Frankfurt. He was then loaned to the Belgian side Kortrijk before his transfer to Al Duhail was announced. Tuta was part of the Frankfurt team that won the Europa League in 2022. He played 186 matches for Frankfurt who signed him in 2019 from FC Sao Paulo and fielded him from 2020 after a one-year loan to Belgium's Kortrijk. 'Tuta has been an important part of our team in recent years and has played a major role in Eintracht's development and success in that time,' board member for sport Markus Krosche said. 'After winning the UEFA Europa League, he'll forever be part of the club's history. As such, we naturally agreed to his request to move clubs. We wish him all the best for his future career.' Al Shamal conclude training at camp in Netherlands Al Shamal SC's first football team have concluded their external training camp in the Dutch city of Tiel in preparation for the upcoming football season (2025-2026). Al Shamal lost to Dutch club Telstar 2-1 in the match held on Monday, concluding the team's friendly matches as part of its external training camp. The match was average, with both teams trading control of the game. Al Shamal's technical staff, led by Spaniard David Prats, was keen to field as many players as possible in the camp to assess their performance before returning to Doha to continue preparations for the upcoming season, which begins on August 14. At the camp in Netherlands, Al Shamal played four friendly matches against Al Wasl of the UAE, Dongen of the Netherlands, Leerdam of the Netherlands, and Telstar of the Netherlands. Bayern Munich happy as Diaz shows his potential in debut
dpa Munich Luis Diaz didn't score in his Bayern Munich debut but he showed enough potential to create a little bit of pre-season euphoria at the Bundesliga champions. 'Luis Díaz is someone who loves football and always has a smile on his face. That's what we need,' midfielder Joshua Kimmich said Diaz' debut in Saturday's 2-1 win over Olympique Lyon. Diaz arrived on Wednesday from Liverpool for a reported €75 million from Liverpool ($87 million). It was the only good summer news so far for Bayern after Florian Wirtz snubbed then and went to Anfield instead, and VfB Stuttgart are so far unwilling to let Nick Woltemade join Bayern.
