Woman Speaks Out After Her Mom Is Accused of Prioritizing Family Photo Over Her Pregnancy Reveal in Viral Video (Exclusive)

Olena Perez and her husband tied the knot in May 2022
After a year of trying, she finally discovered she was pregnant on Father's Day 2023
Perez decided to post her mother's reaction to her pregnancy announcement on TikTok, and the video went viralWhen Olena Perez found out she was pregnant after nearly a year of trying, she could barely wait to tell her family.
She decided to break the news during a casual dinner at a sushi restaurant, choosing the patio as the perfect spot to stage a group photo. But instead of a snapshot, someone was secretly recording the viral moment to come.
In the video that was filmed back in 2023, Perez is seen holding up her positive pregnancy test, hoping for a heartfelt reaction, especially from her Ukrainian mom, who often asked when she'd finally be expecting.
However, to Perez's surprise, her mom was so determined to capture the family photo that she neglected her daughter's big news.
'I thought she would be more excited and happier, but this was a typical reaction from my mom,' Perez tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Since posting her mother's reaction online, the video has racked up over 30 million views, with some commenters suggesting the daughter should have announced the news differently.
However, Perez says she had grown tired of being constantly asked if she was pregnant or when she planned to have a baby, and decided it was time to get it off her chest when they all got together.
'It took me a year to get pregnant and I was holding this news to myself for a bit as my parents were traveling and this was the first time we were seeing each other in person,' she explains.
'My mom also insisted on going to a sushi restaurant, so I needed everyone to understand up front why I wasn't eating anything," she adds.
Looking back at the video, the 34-year-old says it was clear that everyone was confused, as no one seemed to be expecting the announcement. Besides her husband, Perez's mom, stepdad, uncle, aunt, and brother were all unaware she was pregnant.
Apparently, Perez's mother thought her daughter had taken out the positive pregnancy test by mistake.
'I was annoyed she ruined the cute content moment, that's for sure, but I know my mom loves and cares about me and she is just the way she is,' Perez admits. 'People can perceive her as cold but to me she's just an Aquarius Sun and Scorpio Moon/Rising.'
Her mom always pushed the family to take photos so she could post them on Facebook. Ironically, on this particular day, they ended up only recording the video – and never actually took a single photo.
''I'm not upset or surprised because my mother is a main character. She loves getting the photo,' Perez explained in a 'story time' update on TikTok.
'She will harass everyone to get a family photo – and thank God, 'cause now we have memories – but that day, we have no memory other than this video that came up in my memories randomly and I decided to repost.'

Perez tells PEOPLE that if her mom hadn't been out of town when she first found out she was pregnant on Father's Day 2023, she would have shared the news with her privately.
'My advice would be to do it in private with just your mom so you can have a moment together and then announce it to the whole family,' she says.
Despite her mom's underwhelming reaction, Perez, who gave birth to her son in February 2024, says she is the most loving grandmother to Mason.
Perez plans on hopefully expanding her family with her husband in the near future.

Kelly Osbourne gets engaged at dad Ozzy's final show

Kelly Osbourne has confirmed her engagement to her long-term partner, rock musician Sid Wilson. TV personality Osbourne posted a video on Instagram of the moment that Wilson, who is part of heavy metal band Slipknot, got down on one knee and proposed in front of various family members and friends, including her father Ozzy and mother Sharon Osbourne. In the footage, Wilson can be heard saying: 'Kelly, you know I love you more than anything in the world.' Ozzy then interjects: 'F**k off you're not marrying my daughter.' The assembled crowd laughs before Wilson continues: 'Nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you. So, in front of your family and all of our friends, Kelly, will you marry me?' The couple, who have been together since at least 2022 and share a young son, Sidney, then embraced as people clapped and cheered. Osbourne is a former 'View' panelist while Wilson is best known for being Slipknot's turntablist. The pair confirmed they were dating in February 2022, when Osbourne posted a photo of the two of them to Instagram on Valentine's Day, calling him her best friend and 'soulmate,' saying she couldn't believe this was where the couple had ended up after '23 years of friendship.' The proposal took place backstage at what was billed to be Ozzy Osbourne's last ever live show. Osbourne, along with original Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward and guitarist Tony Iommi, appeared on stage together for the first time in two decades in Birmingham, England on Saturday during a concert event called 'Back to the Beginning,' which was said to be Osbourne's 'farewell performance,' according to Black Sabbath's official website. Osbourne – who performed while sitting in a black, throne-like chair with a bat on top – revealed in 2020 that he has Parkinson's disease.

Maura Higgins hacks off her long locks for a shaggy pixie haircut – see the shocking transformation here

The unexpected hair chameleon of reality TV, Maura Higgins, has only gone and done it again, debuting yet another shocking hair transformation – and it's one to rival her hip-skimming blonde curls from a few months back. So, considering, prepare to catch some flies with your jaw that's about to drop... Over the weekend, the Love Island alum attended the F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and, for the coveted event, went all out in the hair department. Styled by her hairstylist, Milosz, Maura decided to rock a jet-black head-hugging pixie cut, a look worlds apart from her trademark brunette lengths. The presenter shared a snap of her short 'do over on Instagram. That all said, it wouldn't be a celebrity hair transformation without scepticism. Because just the day before (and a few weeks earlier), Maura shared a number of images of herself rocking her trademark mid-length locks. So, I think it's safe to assume that, as much as we love this shaggy pixie, the look comes to as the result of a wig. But that's not to say that she wouldn't go for the big chop in the future! After all, there's no denying that she looks absolutely stunning. Hint, hint, Maura... Follow Lia on Instagram. Lia Mappoura (she/her) is the Beauty Writer at Cosmopolitan UK.
