Wait, is DC's Sgt. Rock Starring Colin Farrell Cancelled or What?
Reports have come out that the movie had been cancelled, but THR says that Sgt. Rock 'was not going away, and would be reassessed at the end of the year for a possible summer shoot in 2026'. Originally the film was set to start shooting this year, but scheduling had become a conflict because the movie needed to shoot some sequences outdoors.
As far as we know, DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran love the script, and the movie has a modest budget that won't break the bank like any MCU project.
Besides Farrell, Mike Faist ( Challengers ) was said to have been cast in the movie. As far as story goes, it's said to focus on Sgt. Rock and the men of Easy Company as they try to get to the Holy Spear before the Nazis do.
I'll admit, I was already skeptical about the project based on the obscurity of the character, but I guess you can bet on James Gunn to want to give the spotlight to weirder heroes, seeing that he is the guy who put the Guardians of the Galaxy on the map.
I'm hoping that Sgt. Rock gets off the ground soon. No release date has been set, but the movie is now aiming to start shooting sometime next year.

Superman Director James Gunn on Comic Book Movie Moments We Don't Need to See Again
It's a big week for DC Studios, and James Gunn and the cast of Superman are hard at work doing press for the movie. With Gunn being a central figure in the comic book movie space, Gunn talks a bit about cbms and what he feels doesn't need to be adapted onscreen anymore. Talking to The Times (via @DiscussingFilm), Gunn says that his three comic book moments that don't need further recreation include: The Death of Batman's Parents Peter Parker Getting Bitten by the Radioactive Spider Baby Kal-El in a Tiny Spaceship. 'I don't need to see pearls in a back alley when Batman's parents are killed. I don't need to see the radioactive spider biting Spider-Man. I don't need to see baby Kal coming from Krypton in a little baby rocket.' Admittedly, this is just a testament to how many times Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman have been adapted onscreen; so it would track that their origins have been filmed and interpreted several times across several creatives. For more obscure characters that have only seen the spotlight recently like the Guardians of the Galaxy or Wonder Woman, I guess reinterpretations of their origins are still on the table. Personally, I think adapting the moments are fine as long as people are creative in the way that they're filmed. I personally love the visual flair that Snyder puts in Batman and Superman's origin, and Spider-Man: No Way Home does an interesting twist on the 'canon event' of Uncle Ben's death, only in that movie, it's May that dies. I'm personally irked that Gunn would be starting DC back at one with Superman , but I'm willing to let him cook if that means this franchise moves forward. Gunn's Superman comes out at the end of the week on July 11.

James Gunn Releases Official Spotify Playlist for Each Superman Character
James Gunn has always been very particular with his needle drops. It was apparent in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad ; but with Superman , it's said the whole movie will be his first movie that will all be just original score. Even if that was the case, Gunn has teamed up with Spotify to come up with custom playlists for characters like Superman, Lex Luthor, Eve Teschmacher, Metamorpho, and the Engineer. Check out his announcement here: .@Spotify asked me to create playlists for many of the characters in #Superman, imagining the music each of them listened to. I haven't had more fun this — James Gunn (@JamesGunn) July 3, 2025 Though he only came up with songs for five characters, Gunn does say that he thought up playlists for Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen; with Lois being the one with the most refined taste out of everyone in the film; and Jimmy just having a mishmash of songs that he likes that isn't supposed to make sense. As for the characters that did get mix tapes, Superman has all these feel-good tracks and Lex Luthor's music is supposed to clue the audience in on his narcissism. Gunn also says that he loved putting together Eve's playlist since it's full of a lot of girl pop including Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and of course, Taylor Swift. I mean, it's not the film, but this should get some fans pumped up for Superman next week since these were also the songs that Gunn put together when he was working on the characters. It's the closest thing we have to Awesome Mix Vol. 4. Watch out for Superman when he flies into theaters on July 11.

Gunn On Why He's Following Wonder Woman Fancast Adrian Arjona
With James Gunn rebooting the DCU with Superman , a lot of fans have been pitching online who they want to play the new heroes alongside David Corenswet; and one name that keeps popping up is Adrian Arjona for Wonder Woman . Fans have noticed that Gunn actually followed Arjona on social media which then lead them to believe that she was going to be in the DCU soon, but Gunn has revealed that he's actually followed her from way back and not just because she's coming over to DC. In an interview with Extra (via @DaveTheAnodite), Gunn says: ' I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], 'He just followed her, that means she's Wonder Woman,'… She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. We've been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn't just follow her.' JAMES GUNN on recent reports that he'd followed ADRIA ARJONA on instagram: "She was in a movie that I made seven years ago, we've been friends and have known each other since that time, I followed her then, I didn't just follow her" — D🅰️ve (@DaveTheAnodite) June 30, 2025 For context, the movie that Gunn and Arjona worked on was The Belko Experiment. Gunn didn't direct that film, but he did provide the script; and like other Gunn films, his brother Sean was also in the movie. Going back to the idea of Arjona as Diana of Themyscira, though this wasn't confirmation that Arjona was going to be the next WW, Gunn did say, ' She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.' For now, it's unclear where Gunn and his co-head Peter Safran want to go with the DCU. We know that 'Elseworlds' are going to exist thanks to The Batman Part II ; but as for the main timeline, we only see as far as Supergirl . Hopefully the release of Superman will give us a clearer picture as fans. Watch out for the movie when it comes to cinemas on July 11.
