Lady Vols advance to Elite Eight for second consecutive year
No. 10 seed Tennessee (20-7) advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA women's tennis tournament for a second consecutive season. The Lady Vols defeated No. 7 seed Virginia (22-6), 4-0, Friday at Boar's Head Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Lady Vols have advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight four times in program history.
"Virginia is a great team, but I loved that we were able to come out here knowing what we are capable of," Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. "For us to get the doubles point and have the fan support that we had was huge. In singles, you saw all six courts play really solid tennis. I am looking forward to going back and watching film. Could not be more excited about the team and where we're at."
Tennessee will next face No. 2 seed Texas A&M in the Elite Eight. A time and dated have not been announced for the match between SEC teams.
