New political alliance formed in J&K

Srinagar, June 30 (UNI) Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone, Peoples Democratic Front headed by Hakeem Yasin and Justice Department Front, a faction of Jamaat Islami that contested last year Assembly polls- today announced a new alliance-Peoples Alliance for Change.
The announcement of PAC was made by Lone during a press conference which was attended by the top leadership of the three parties.
Lone said the new alliance offers a viable alternative to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"People of Jammu and Kashmir have endured immense suffering, and we are committed to driving change, " he said.
The new alliance the trio decided to come together in an act of historic unity to declare a new path forward a Declaration for Change rooted in hope, responsibility, and transformation.
"In order to set in motion a process which scripts a pathway to change, the JKPC and the JDF have decided to come together and work for change, " the alliance declaration said. "Irrespective of our ideological differences, we have decided to explore overlaps and move on in a spirit of togetherness."
The alliance said that it believes in the restoration of Article 370, Article 35 A and statehood. The alliance will strive and exhaust all political means in pursuit of these objectives.
The alliance said that one of the biggest tools of disempowerment of the Kashmiris that has emerged, is the system of reservations in J&K.
"The present system of reservations is a regional issue and a systematically discriminates against the people of Kashmir. All the recent lists released by recruitment departments reveal an unambiguous pattern. Upto ninety percent jobs go to the Jammu region. Till now the only party to call it a regional issue has been the JKPC. The JDF joins JKPC in calling it a regional issue. This is a wake-up call for the people. No other traditional party is willing to call a spade a spade and call reservations a regional issue. They are instead partners in this crime against the people of Kashmir, " the alliance declaration said

Cuban FM calls new tightening of US sanctions 'criminal policy'

Mexico City, July 1 (UNI) US President Donald Trump's memorandum on tightening Washington's policy towards Havana demonstrates a criminal policy that violates the rights of the entire Cuban people, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said. "The presidential memorandum against Cuba, released today by the US government, intensifies the aggression and economic blockade that punishes the entire Cuban people and is the main obstacle to our development. It is a criminal policy that violates the rights of an entire nation," Rodriguez Parilla said on X. According to a statement on the White House website, the National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM) signed by Trump restores and strengthens the hard line towards Cuba that was in effect during his first term, reversing the normalization steps taken under the Biden administration. The document prohibits any direct or indirect financial transactions with companies controlled by the Cuban military, including the GAESA conglomerate and its subsidiaries. Exceptions are allowed only for transactions that contribute to the achievement of US foreign policy objectives or support the Cuban population. The memorandum strengthens control over tourist travel: the ban on tourism from the United States remains in place, mandatory audits and requirements for storing financial documentation related to travel to Cuba for at least five years are introduced. At the same time, Trump confirmed the abandonment of the policy previously aimed at stimulating migration from Cuba to prevent illegal migration. The document also assumes the continuation of the blockade and countering attempts to lift it within the UN and other international organizations. It also talks about supporting a "free Cuba," the development of an independent private sector and human rights — including through expanding access to the Internet, freedom of the press and association. According to the memorandum, the United States plans to conduct a comprehensive review of human rights violations in Cuba, including cases of illegal detentions and ill-treatment of prisoners, as well as compile a list of persons hiding from US justice and sheltered by the Cuban authorities. Syria may sign peace agreement with Israel in coming months

Beirut, July 1 (UNI) The issue of normalizing relations between Syria and Israel has been practically resolved, and an agreement may be signed in the coming months, Lebanese newspaper Ad-Diyar reported, citing sources. At the same time, Lebanon is under increasing pressure to persuade the government to take a similar step - simultaneously with Syria or soon after it, the report said on Monday. At the beginning of this year, Washington set a time frame for achieving both agreements, the report added. During his last visit to Beirut at the end of June, US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack reportedly conveyed proposals to the Lebanese leadership related to the solution of the issue of disarming the Hezbollah movement and the possibility of normalizing relations with Israel. However, the Lebanese leadership does not yet have a unified position on the US proposal, the newspaper reported. On Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said that Israel is interested in normalizing diplomatic ties with Syria and Lebanon while safeguarding its security interests. UNI SPUTNIK GNK 0827
