Last week, Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, called today for the total elimination of nuclear weapons as the only guarantee for peace.
In his address to the 10th session, the head of state warned that the frenzied arms race currently underway around the world threatens to destroy the human species.
Diaz-Canel stressed the need to end the nuclear arsenals of all nations, including Israel, which carried out a series of military attacks against Iran last Friday, beginning a conflict that has already lasted five days.
Quoting the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, the president said:
When the lives of one's species, of one's people, and of those closest to them are at such risk, no one can afford to be indifferent.
According to international news agencies, the attacks on each side have killed at least 224 people in Iran and 24 in Israel last week.

Armenia, Canada discuss regional peace, cooperation

02 Jul 2025, 09:07 GMT+10 - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand discussed bilateral cooperation and regional developments during a phone call. The ministers exchanged views on regional issues. Mirzoyan provided an update on recent developments in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He emphasized the importance of establishing interstate relations and signing a peace agreement to ensure lasting peace in the South Caucasus. In this context, Mirzoyan also addressed the issue of unblocking regional communications within the framework of the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative. They also discussed Armenia's humanitarian assistance in evacuating citizens of third countries, including Canadians, through Armenian territory following recent developments in Iran. *On March 13, Armenia's Foreign Ministry announced it had accepted Azerbaijan's proposals on two previously disputed articles, and the peace agreement is ready to be signed. Armenia expressed readiness to start consultations on the date and venue of the signing. Meanwhile, Baku set new preconditions, stating it is too early to talk about the meeting timeline. The peace agreement draft includes 17 points, with 15 already agreed upon. One unresolved issue concerns mutual renunciation of international claims, and the other relates to not deploying third-country representatives on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.* Source:

Dalai Lama urges peaceful dialogue with China, reaffirms Tibet's commitment to non-violence and justice

panarmenian 29 Jun 2025, 15:31 GMT+10 Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh India), June 4 : The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) reported that His Holiness the Dalai Lama's message for the convention was delivered in Tokyo by Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang of the 17th Tibetan Parliament in Exile during the opening session of the ongoing 9th World Parliamentarians' Convention on Tibet. Dalai Lama said in his message, The support of people's representatives is something that I particularly value and is of enormous significance to us Tibetans, while extending greetings to all the attending parliament members from many nations. Today the world is going through very challenging times. Sadly, there seems to be no end in sight to the use of violence in settling problems and disputes between nations and even between opposing groups within individual countries. History shows that violence only breeds more violence. We must therefore make concerted efforts to resolve problems and disputes through dialogue in a spirit of reconciliation and understanding. We Tibetans are committed to seeking a mutually acceptable solution with a peaceful, non-violent path to achieve freedom and dignity for the Tibetan people, stated CTA report. The message continued, The spirit of Tibetans in Tibet remains firm like a mountain. Their dedication to our cause is strong, unwavering, and determined as it is based on truth and justice. I am hopeful that the Chinese people will recognise this. Ours is the peaceful struggle of a people with their language, profound philosophy, and rich culture. Tibetan Buddhism is a complete form of Buddhism based on reasoning and logic. It is a tradition that preserves and develops the pure teaching derived from the historic Indian University of Nalanda. Central to this is the cultivation of compassion and concern for the welfare of all being, as quoted by the CTA report. _______________________________________________________________ Source : The Tribune Pakistan Source: Pressenza

AAEA Demands Accountability for Abandoned Oil/Gas Well Operations

Pressenza 24 Jun 2025, 05:53 GMT+10 Guwahati: Expressing concern over the Sivasagar crude-oil well gas leakage for days, a northeast India-based forum of graduate engineers urged both Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India Limited (OIL) to deal honestly with the abandoned wells. Both have the potential to harm human life, property and environment, where the concerned private parties often do not come to take responsibility. All Assam Engineer's Association (AAEA), in a statement, also appealed to the Union government in New Delhi to help the concerned company officials held accountable for any disaster that takes place on a deserted oil/gas well after declaring it dried up. Its apprehended that some corrupt ONGC and OIL officials continue declaring selected oil/gas wells as being old ones (meaning not feasible for drilling) so that private parties can be given the opportunity to drill and extract benefits with an understanding of sharing benefits with both the state-sponsored companies. Is anyone monitoring the responsible officials after they declare a loaded oil/gas well as a dry one and then secretly deal with private parties for extraction for personal gains? said AAEA president Er Kailash Sarma, working president Er Nava J Thakuria and secretary Er Inamul Hye. The Bhatiapar-Bari Chuk (Sivasagar) and 2020 Baghjan (Tinsukia) OIL well blow-out remind us of the same story where private parties were operating the well (after those were assumed not to be resourceful enough) and accidents took place. It means that no lessons have been learned on how to prevent such practices. Shockingly, India as a nation still does not have an efficient response team to deal with disasters with such magnitudes, so the expert teams from Canada or the USA need to come to address the problems at the crucial moment, added the AAEA statement.
