Udinese lose both first choice goalkeepers to serious injury

Yahoo27-02-2025
Udinese are forced to deal with an unexpected crisis, as both their first two goalkeepers have suffered serious injuries.
The Friulani are trying to stay in the top half of the table following a decent start to the season under coach Kosta Runjaic.
It is however becoming increasingly tricky due to the number of injuries the club has had to handle.
Nowhere is that more evident than in goal, where primary pick Maduka Okoye was ruled out by a serious wrist injury at the start of December 2024.
He is not expected back on the field until mid-April, having undergone surgery for the torn ligament in his right wrist.
Okoye had been replaced by Razvan Sava for almost three months, but now he too is ruled out by an injury.
Udinese announced this afternoon that Sava has fractured the little finger on his right hand and will go under the knife in Rome on Saturday.
Now their only choices are 39-year-old Daniele Padelli or 21-year-old Edoardo Piana.
Padelli had experience at the likes of Inter, Torino, Sampdoria and Liverpool, but has not played a competitive match since October 2022.
That was Udinese's 3-2 Coppa Italia defeat to Monza.

Taremi joins Beltran in rejection of Flamengo transfer

According to Sky Sport Italia, it was not just Lucas Beltran who turned down a Flamengo transfer, but Inter striker Mehdi Taremi also rejected the move. As Football Italia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà already confirmed today, the pressure on Fiorentina striker Beltran proved futile, as he has no intention of leaving Europe for a return to South America so soon into this stage of his career. The Viola had accepted the proposal worth €15m plus add-ons, but the player was unimpressed with the destination. EPA-EFE/GEORGIA PANAGOPOULOU It now seems as if he was not the only one to have doubts over a future at Flamengo. Sky Sport Italia claim that the Brazilians made a similar proposal to Inter striker Taremi, but he too is waiting for other alternatives in Europe. The 33-year-old Iran international is not part of Inter's plans for this season, but has a contract to June 2027. There have also been links with Besiktas, Fulham, Botafogo, Leeds United and West Ham United, though nobody seems to have come close to a genuine agreement yet.

Milan Mayor On AC Milan & Inter Purchasing San Siro: 'September Decisive, Sale Of Stadium A Personal Objective'

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has confirmed that September will be a decisive month in the potential sale of San Siro. Speaking to RTL 102.5 via FCInterNewsit, he revisited the long-standing issue surrounding the sale of the iconic stadium. Of course, it's not just about the venue. AC Milan and Inter have been persistent in their effort to buy San Siro and the surrounding areas. However, the process has not gone as smoothly as the Serie A giants had hoped. Indeed, bureaucratic hurdles and political debates have significantly slowed down the progress. Meanwhile, the Milan clubs remain unfazed, looking to complete the purchase next month. Furthermore, Beppe Sala has made this project a personal mission. Though the sale is beyond his control, Sala wants Milan and Inter to succeed in their ambition to build a new stadium. He views the clubs' joint project as a necessity, especially with the 2032 UEFA European Championship on the horizon. Indeed, Italy will co-host the tournament, with San Siro at risk of being omitted as a host venue. Needless to say, it would be a disaster. (Photo by) 'We'll see what happens in September,' Sala said. 'We must go through the City Council because they must approve transactions involving public property. 'San Siro is one of my goals – not the most important, of course – but I've been working on this for years, also out of personal dignity. 'At first, we considered a lease agreement, then we explored renovation, and now we're pursuing a sale,' he continued. 'Out of personal dignity, I want to carry this initiative forward, but it must be approved by the Council. 'From my point of view, I want a clear conscience – I want to do my job to the end. Then we'll see if politics will follow this path. 'What I've noticed – as someone who has always traveled a lot and remains very curious about what's happening around the world – is that major cities usually have new stadiums. 'San Siro isn't new, and I'll stop here because I know this will spark controversy. 'But modern times must push for change. 'Milan is a city of change, so I vote in favor and will vote in favor because I too vote in the City Council. 'Then we'll see what happens.'

Serie A Head Of Referees Delivers Major VAR Update: 'Referees Will Explain VAR Decisions In Stadiums During Games'

Gianluca Rocchi, Serie A's head of referees, announced upcoming VAR changes heading into the 2025/26 season. Speaking to TMW, Rocchi admitted the league will introduce one crucial change to an established system. According to Gianluca Rocchi, Serie A referees will explain VAR decisions live in stadiums during matches. This approach has been common practice in several leagues around the world. Indeed, referees in the Russian Premier League and Major League Soccer have been doing this for the past 12 months. At the same time, controversial VAR decisions have often sparked considerable debate in Serie A over the past few years. Unfortunately, Inter frequently found themselves on the receiving end of those contentious calls. Simone Inzaghi was often vocal in his criticism, expressing frustration over decisions that ruined Inter's season. However, there was nothing the Nerazzurri could've done to reverse those outcomes, as officiating errors remained beyond their control. (Photo by) VAR decisions were often vague throughout the 2024/25 season. Though the upcoming changes won't affect the decision-making process, they will at least provide more clarity. 'The big news for next season will be on-field announcements,' Rocchi admitted. 'The referee will be able to explain the decision made after a VAR intervention directly to the stadium and on TV. 'This is an important step forward in communication, which we have been managing transparently for years,' he continued. 'Now, however, the explanations will be in real-time, in front of everyone. 'We will prepare thoroughly,' Rocchi added. 'Especially from a communication standpoint. 'We have a selected group and want to standardize language and content to be clear with the public. 'There is no maximum time limit for on-field announcements because every referee has their own style, language, and reaction times. 'We still need to work on standardizing the content of the explanations. 'But we will not impose strict limits: the quality of communication will matter most.'
