SCIENTISTS are studying a mysterious "UFO orb" which landed in Colombia and is said to be "alien".
Boffins released X-ray images of the mind-boggling sphere, after witnesses claimed to have seen it flying over the town of Buga in March.

It was said to have been zig-zagging through the skies in an unconventional flying pattern.
The "UFO sphere" was reportedly recovered shortly after landing.
It has since been analysed by scientists who have now revealed their groundbreaking research on the "extraterrestrial item".
They discovered that it featured three layers of metal-like material and 18 micro-spheres inside which surrounded a central nucleus.
Scientists are calling this core "a chip".
A radiologist who examined the sphere Dr Joe Luis Velazquez said that they found "no welds or joints", which usually indicate human production.
The scientist concluded: "It is of artificial origin, in that it shows no evidence of welding, and its internal structure is composed of high-density elements.
"More testing is needed to establish its origin."
The mind-blowing object also displayed symbols that the team compared to ancient scripts.
These included runes, Ogham and Mesopotamian writing systems.

The scientists used AI to help them decode the bizarre text.
They interpreted it as saying: "The origin of birth through union and energy in the cycle of transformation, meeting point of unity, expansion, and consciousness—individual consciousness."
The researchers said that they understood the text to be a "message to humanity, encouraging a collective shift in consciousness to help Mother Earth".
The object was recovered on March 2 by a group of people who said it weighed about four and a half pounds.
They described it as having "the temperature of a refrigerator" when they touched it.

One of the individuals who recovered the object David Velez el Potro said that the object was authentic, and claimed to have found it in the woods in Buga.
He also said the man who found and touched it, Jose, felt sick for days after touching the alien sphere.
Velez el Potro said: "When I poured water on it, it started to smoke and the water vaporised instantly."
There are yet to be any official reports or scientific analysis to confirm claims of a sphere falling over Buga - only eyewitness reports.
Velez el Potro added the government contacted him to hand over the sphere, but he refused, arguing that it would "never be seen again".
Researchers found that the sphere had irregular edges which indicated "that it is a solid object".
The outer layer was said to be the most dense area, almost possessing human bone density.
The breakthrough research suggests that the outer layer could be made of titanium or steel.
FAMOUS UFO INCIDENTS
The 'Night of the UFOs' is among many famous unexplained encounters with strange objects in the sky that have happened down the years.
Perhaps the most striking was a video known as the 'Tic-Tac' – which showed an unidentified object being pursued by fighter planes.
While flying off the coast of California 2004, two pilots from the USS Nimitz on a routine training mission spotted an object "shaped like a 40ft Tic Tac sweet".
Then in 2005, a veteran pilot of an F/A - 18 fighter aircraft witnessed a raft of strange objects in the sky during a training exercise off the coast of Florida.
The two videos were sensationally released by the Pentagon in 2017.
Tragically the pursuit of UFOs has also claimed lives, notably that of US Air Force Captain Thomas Mantell.
He died after being sent to chase a mysterious object in his fighter aircraft in 1948.
Other encounters with the air force include a claim that UFOs disabled weapons at a nuclear base.
Captain Robert Salas said the bizarre incident unfolded in 1967 while he was the on-duty commander of a secret underground launch control facility at Montana's Malmstrom Air Force Base.
US forces based in Britain also had an encounter with a strange glowing in the sky in Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk.
Two airmen, Staff Sgt Jim Penniston and Airman John Burroughs, claim they got so close to a triangular craft they actually touched it.
Earlier this year, US military documents were released showing how a warship was shadowed by two "ball of light" UFOs deepening the mystery around the case.
But the scientists still need a full composition analysis to confirm this.
The 18 smaller spheres within the object's centre appeared to be aligned in a non-randomised pattern.
Boffins are currently referring to the 18 points as "a chip" due to their precise arrangement and location within the spherical object.
The team also observed a central band composed of a different material, which contained more small spheres.
They think that these may have been placed inside before the object was sealed.
But the X-rays did not reveal any visible signs of assembly techniques by humans.

Joe Rogan in awe by son of music icon's encounters with orb-shaped UFOs: 'That's crazy'
The son of legendary music star Willie Nelson left Joe Rogan in awe by revealing that he's had multiple encounters with UFOs. Country music singer and songwriter Lukas Nelson revealed on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that he and several other people have watched as orb-shaped UFOs streaked over Hawaii. 'I've seen some stuff. When I was in Maui, twice I've seen something that I couldn't explain,' Nelson said during the July 10 interview. According to Nelson, the first encounter took place nearly 20 years ago in 2006, when he witnessed an orange orb floating less than 200 yards over Maui which seemed to be observing the onlookers below. 'Then I swear it seemed like as soon as enough people saw it, it went whoosh. And then it went whoosh. And it moved like nothing else I thought possible at the time. It went out of the atmosphere. And it was crazy. Faster than any drone,' the performer said. In a second incident, the country singer added that he and a group of friends were on the Hawaiian island of Lanai when a pulsing and multi-colored craft moved across the entire horizon. Nelson didn't have any proof with him that could confirm what he saw, but the stories were very similar to recent orb incidents, including several involving glowing orange orbs flying over the US. In fact, orb sightings like Nelson's have become incredibly common, with dozens of cases being reported in just the last fives years alone. Nelson added that he's been following the news about government officials disclosing what they know about UFOs and extraterrestrials, telling Rogan that he's not just a believer, he's praying for their arrival on Earth. Hee also cited the famous 1967 incident where a UFO allegedly disarmed 10 nuclear warheads at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana as proof that aliens are trying to save humanity from global destruction. And the one that was not, the one that's still sort of outstanding is the USS Nimitz experience,' he revealed. Nelson was talking about the 2004 incident involving a craft that has infamously become known as the 'Tic-Tac' UFO. On November 14, 2004, Commander David Fravor, a Top Gun fighter pilot, was flying a training exercise off the coast of San Diego when he was re-routed to investigate a strange object spotted on radar by warships protecting his aircraft carrier, the USS Nimitz. Fravor spotted a roughly 40-foot white object with no windows or wings, shaped like a Tic-Tac, that mirrored the pilot's movements before flying off at thousands of miles per hour, and then somehow stopping in midair seconds later. 'That seems to be the most compelling,' Nelson declared during the podcast interview. As for his own experience with unexplained phenomena, Nelson's story of the glowing orange orb over Hawaii has been repeated by multiple witnesses in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico. The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), a non-profit organization that documents and investigates UFO reports, recently added 50 new orb sightings to their archives, with 46 taking place since 2020. NUFORC revealed that these sightings come from civilians, professional pilots, and even military personnel. Many of those witnesses reported the same type of strange encounter Nelson described, where the orbs tended to hover, seemingly observing the people and places around them before escaping at great speed. 'A bright light shined in my window. Once I [had] seen it, it zipped away,' one witness told NUFORC about a February 19, 2024 orb sighting in Antelope, California. In late December 2024, another swarm of bright orange UFO orbs were allegedly caught flying over New York City, raising concerns over the holiday week. A local recorded video of the sighting above Brookville Blvd in Queens, New York, right next to John F Kennedy International Airport. 'Lived here 14 years with planes flying by all day everyday. They fly so low it feels like you can almost touch them. I know what they look like when they come in to land and take off. I have never ever seen anything like this. Ever,' another New York resident who also witnessed the incident posted on Reddit. That same week, a father and son in Georgia chased an orange UFO orb after they spotted the mysterious light floating through the sky while taking out the trash. On December 26, 2024, a beaming orange glow in the distant night sky stopped the dad in his tracks outside his home in Central Georgia around 6:30 pm ET. Confused, he pointed out the peculiar glow around the orb to his son. The pair stared at it for several minutes and decided to film what they were seeing. 'I've seen similar sightings by myself before but this was the first time I was able to film something I witnessed while being in company of another person,' the father posted on Reddit. Rogan and Nelson discussed the possibility that these sightings may not be alien spacecraft at all. Instead, they suggested that all of them could be secret US military craft. Nelson noted that in the last 25 years there have been few military projects which have been declassified by the government. 'I'm curious as to like what in 25 years based on the technology that we've been able to see that makes it to modern society, how much is held back and what we don't see,' the singer explained. While Nelson didn't believe the US government was capable of covering up the existence for UFO-inspired aircraft, Rogan claimed it was very possible that such an operation exists. 'I think there's a high likelihood that a lot of this stuff is ours,' Rogan said.

Here is a derivative but nicely put together sci-fi throwback, in which Inez Dahl Torhaug stars as Denise, a rebellious teenager in foster care whose father went missing in 1988. A dedicated ufologist for whom the truth was very much out there, Denise's dad was trying to find aliens when he vanished. Alien abduction? Government cover up? Regular old disappeared-guy? When his old car falls from the sky into a local barn eight years later, Denise joins forces with her father's friends at UFO-Sweden, including the likably nervous Lennart (Jesper Barkselius) plus assorted misfits, to investigate what leads they have, including the potential role of a shady-seeming organisation, the SMHI, AKA The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. You may gather from the names above that this is a Swedish film, and yet the dialogue is entirely in English. What gives? The unexpected twist is that the film is an early example of a technique that you can easily imagine becoming standard practice for streaming platforms hoping to reach multiple territories for minimal cost: AI-assisted dubbing. The original actors have re-recorded their lines and AI tech has been used to edit the visuals so that the lip movements from the original Swedish version match the new English dialogue. The technique is called 'vlubbing' (visual + dubbing) and the target audience is seemingly the kind that won't read subtitles or watch a traditional dub. The technique isn't 100% perfect in every single frame, but it's pretty close – if you didn't know it had been applied, you probably wouldn't clock it. But the ethics are murky. Will using the original actors be standard, or are we more likely to see famous voices taking over, as happens in animation? Or would it be too weird to hear Chris Pratt's voice coming out of Jesper Barkselius's face? What would it mean if and when documentaries start using it? In many ways this fairly nondescript film is the perfect vehicle for potentially dystopian tech: it's under the radar, inauspicious and not likely to find itself widely watched. It's in fact the film equivalent of the quiet suburban neighbourhood where an alien ship first lands in a flying saucer movie. At the moment vlubbing is under the radar, but this could be the start of an unstoppable invasion. Watch the Skies is in Showcase cinemas from 11 July.
