Auburn practicing without injured Johni Broome
Broome, the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, briefly left Auburn's regional final win over Michigan State with an elbow injury. Tigers coach Bruce Pearl said Broome likely would be on the floor for parts of practice on Thursday before the Tigers hit Texas and follow Florida with a scheduled in-stadium workout scheduled for Noon ET on Friday.
Assistant coach Steven Pearl said on The Next Round podcast Tuesday that Broome would "continue to rehab the seven different things that he injured on that one play. ... As the week progresses, hopefully his status does as well."
Broome was fully capable of climbing a ladder and cutting down the nets after the South Region final, but he appeared to injure his left leg on the same play that taxed his right elbow.
Pearl said there is "no injury" to Broome's elbow after testing but does have "stress" in the joint.
Broome scored 25 points with 14 rebounds in Auburn's 70-64 win over Michigan State on Sunday in Atlanta. He's averaging 18.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 blocks per game this season and is viewed as the only Naismith National Player of the Year contender with a chance to challenge Duke's Cooper Flagg for first-place votes.
In four NCAA Tournament games last month, Broome averaged 17.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.
Broome had 18 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two blocks in Auburn's 90-81 home loss to Florida on Feb. 8.

The meltdown knocked him out of the running, coming just after he missed the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship the previous week. Woods completed the 18th hole at level par, but a bogey at the 14th and a double bogey at the 15th scuppered any hopes of a fightback. Esterline, who was paired with him, remained gracious and measured in his post-round remarks. "I had fun playing with him and Pennson [Badgett]," Esterline said. "They were both good guys." Esterline will continue his golfing journey at Auburn as part of the Class of 2027. Woods kicked off the week with a 70 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, followed by consecutive 66s that hinted at a comeback. On Wednesday, he set the front nine alight with a 31, featuring birdies on six of the first nine holes. On Thursday, he replicated that performance with another 66, ruling the roost on holes 6 and 12 throughout the competition - entering Friday at 12 under, just one stroke behind the leader. Charlie started strong, but missed chances began to accumulate from the back 9 onwards. He recorded three bogeys and one double in a round, including hole 15, which he had mastered the previous two days. Following the result, Charlie remains the No. 20-ranked golfer in the American Junior Golf Association. Esterline is ranked as the No. 46 golfer by the same standards. To qualify for the Junior Ryder Cup, Charlie needed to finish in the top two during the event, win the 2023 U.S. Junior Amateur, or be ranked among the top two on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup list. At present, the top two spots are occupied by boys Miles Russell and Tyler Mawhinney, and girls Asterisk Talley and Gianna Clemente. Charlie still has a chance to qualify for the team if he ends up being the sole captain's pick for Team USA.

Bryson Stott drives in game-winner as Phillies rally past Tigers
August 2 - Bryson Stott drove in two runs Friday, including the game-winner in the eighth inning, to help the host Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-4 victory over Detroit, snapping the Tigers' four-game winning streak. Starter Ranger Suarez gave up three runs on four hits over seven innings for Philadelphia. The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning when Gleyber Torres belted his 12th homer of the year 404 feet to left field, scoring Wenceel Perez and Jahmai Jones. Philadelphia loaded the bases in the seventh and pulled within 3-1 when Stott flew out to center field, driving in Nick Castellanos. Otto Kemp then cut it to 3-2 when he scored off of Trea Turner's single to right. The Phillies knotted the game with Kyle Schwarber's single to right field that brought home newly acquired Harrison Bader. On the ensuing at-bat, Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper was ejected when he argued with third base umpire Vic Carapazza, who called him out on a check-swing third strike. The Tigers retook the lead when Perez hit a solo shot to center field in the eighth off of Orion Kerkering (6-4). The Phillies tied it 4-4 in the bottom of the inning with Kemp's double that scored Castellanos from second and went ahead 5-4 when Stott's infield single brought in Kemp. Stott had originally been called out on a throw to first base, but a challenge by Philadelphia was successful. Despite allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, Kerkering picked up the win. Jhoan Duran, who was obtained in a trade with Minnesota on Wednesday, came on in the ninth and registered three quick outs for his 17th save of the season. Detroit starter Jack Flaherty struck out seven and allowed one run and two hits over six innings. Four Tigers relievers were unable to keep the Phillies at bay. July 30 - Charlie Woods vaulted into contention at the Junior PGA Championships with a 6-under par 66 in the second round in West Lafayette, Ind. on Wednesday. After carding a 70 during the first round on the Kampen-Cosler Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, Woods birdied six of his first eight holes en route to making the turn in 5-under 31 on Wednesday. He birdied three of his first six holes on the back to reach 9 under for the event before consecutive bogeys dropped Woods back to 7 under. He is seven shots behind leader Lunden Esterline, a 2027 Auburn commit, with Max VanderMolen and Chase Yenser tied at 9 under with 36 holes to play. Woods, 16, failed to qualify for the match play rounds at last week's U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in Dallas. He is now seeking one of the two automatic spots on the Junior Ryder Cup team that will go to the top two finishers this week. There is also one captain's pick, although Woods is likely not in line to be selected for it.
