Craig Berube's Gritty Opinion of Veteran Maple Leafs Forward
The 36-year-old forward buried the insurance marker in a 2-0 win over the Florida Panthers in Game 6, capping off a focused team effort that started with Auston Matthews' go-ahead goal and ended with Joseph Woll's first career playoff shutout.

Pacioretty signed a one-year deal just before the season and has recorded eight points in 10 playoff games. His tally on Friday was his third of the postseason and 28th of his playoff career.
Toronto head coach Craig Berube was quick to credit Pacioretty for more than just the goal.
'We talked about his injuries and how he has battled back," Berube said on Saturday. "It was kind of an up-and-down deal with injuries again this year, but he stays with it.
"He has a lot of character, and he is a guy who wants to help the team win. That is really what he is here for, and he has done a really good job of it. He got another huge goal for us last night."

After the win, Pacioretty discussed Matthews' game-winning goal and kept his message short heading into another must-win match in Game 7.

'I mean, it's such a huge, huge goal,' Pacioretty said about Matthews' goal. 'You know, that's a situation where no one wants to make a mistake. You could feel the tension on both sides there at that point in the game. And then just an unbelievable shot from an unbelievable player.
'We're going to war.'
Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Second Round between the Maple Leafs and Panthers is set for Sunday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

New York Giants training camp: 6 takeaways from Day 4
The New York Giants battled poor air quality and overcast skies on Sunday morning on Day 4 of their 2025 training camp. Regardless, they held practice outdoors. Here are some takeaways from Sunday's workout. Wilson is opening up the offense The Giants have been one of the NFL's least potent offenses the past two seasons. They signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, the NFL's most proficient deep thrower last year, to get their passing game back on track. It looks as if he's doing that after just one week. Wilson is going up top to all of his receivers these days, and his "moonball" has never looked better. "He looks 25 again" Not to make this all about Wilson, but he appears to be just what this sagging Giants offense needs. Not only is he reenergizing the passing game, but the 36-year-old is making plays with his legs, too. Holland the pirate Wilson didn't have his way with the Giants' secondary all day. They got their shots in as well. On this play, slot corner Dru Phillips deflects a Wilson pass into the hands of safety Jevon Holland, who returns it for a touchdown. The Giants' goal on defense this year is to focus on ball-hawking. So far, so good. Skattebo is gaining in popularity Looking for a player to root for this season? Look no further than rookie running back Cam Skattebo. He is a high-energy player who is already making his mark with the Giants as both a rusher and a receiver. The fans in attendance at camp are already taking to him. Abdul Carter is a menace The first full padded practice isn't until Monday, so we won't know exactly how good rookie linebacker Abdul Carter is. So far, he's been blowing by everyone. If he continues to do that when the hitting starts, the Giants have a monster in their midst. Dart's best day yet The Giants' other first-round pick, quarterback Jaxson Dart, is also heating up. On Sunday, he looked comfortable and in charge, hitting on several deep throws. This article originally appeared on Giants Wire: Giants training camp: 6 takeaways from Day 4

Cowboys sign tight end Jake Ferguson to a 4-year, $52 million extension
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million extension Sunday. The deal includes a $12 million signing bonus. A fourth-round pick in 2022, Ferguson is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He had 59 catches for 494 yards but did not have a touchdown reception last season. The previous year, he posted career highs with 71 catches for 761 yards and five TDs. Ferguson dealt with knee and concussion issues last year but still started 14 games. This deal comes as two-time All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons remains in negotiations for his own extension, entering the final season of his rookie deal. Parsons said recently he had not seen much progress in those talks. ___ AP NFL:

Islanders Schaefer, Aitcheson Invited To World Junior Summer Showcase
By: Kai Russel On Sunday, Hockey Canada announced that they invited 44 players to the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase. Among those 44 were recent New York Islanders draftees Matthew Schaefer and Kashawn Aitcheson. 44 players invited to World Junior Summer Showcase Forty-four players will begin the road to the 2026 World Juniors at the Summer Showcase in Minneapolis. Schaefer, drafted first overall by the Islanders in June, scored seven goals with 15 assists for 22 points in 17 games with the Erie Otters of the OHL last season. The 17-year-old defenseman is already familiar with international competition, as he represented Canada's 2025 National Junior Team and won gold at the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship. Schaefer will be the second-youngest Canadian at the Summer Showcase, aside from projected 2026 first-overall pick Gavin McKenna. Taken by the Islanders at 17th overall in 2025, Aitcheson will join Schaefer and the Canadian d-corps at the Summer Showcase. The left-shot defenseman scored 26 goals with 33 assists for 59 points in 64 games with the Barrie Colts of the OHL last season. Like Schaefer, Aitcheson has experience representing Team Canada as a fellow gold medalist at the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship. Schaefer and Aitcheson's presence at the Summer Showcase is a welcome progression for the Islanders' prospect pool, which has seen a rising stock since the 2025 NHL Draft.
