Parliament set to debate Operation Sindoor as monsoon session resumes
Operation Sindoor, carried out on May 7, 2025, was a precision military strike targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation was intended to dismantle the operational capabilities of groups allegedly responsible for the cross-border attack in Pahalgam.
The Lok Sabha's List of Business for Monday describes the agenda as: "Special Discussion on India's strong, successful and decisive 'Operation Sindoor' in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam."
Home minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey are also likely to participate in the discussion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to intervene in the debate in the Lok Sabha and may also do so in the Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha discussion on Operation Sindoor is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, with Rajnath Singh and S Jaishankar among the ministers expected to speak.
The Opposition has strongly criticized the government, pointing to alleged intelligence lapses leading to the Pahalgam attack. Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has questioned the effectiveness of Operation Sindoor, arguing that India lacked international support for its military response.
Gandhi also targeted the Prime Minister over his continued silence on US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of having mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. 'There's something fishy when the Prime Minister doesn't respond even once to such repeated claims,' Gandhi said. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed the sentiment, saying Modi's silence 'shows weakness.'
President Trump on July 22 again claimed he had prevented a full-scale conflict between the two nations, even referencing the downing of five aircraft during the escalation. Opposition leaders cited these remarks to question the government's foreign policy stance and strategic communication.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the debate on Operation Sindoor will be held for 16 hours in the Lok Sabha on July 28 and for 16 hours in the Rajya Sabha on July 29."All issues cannot be discussed together."
The floor leaders of the INDIA bloc parties will meet on Monday at 10 am to discuss the strategy for the second week of the monsoon session, with the Lok Sabha slated to take up discussion on Operation Sindoor today and the Rajya Sabha tomorrow.

Congress, 'China guru' Rahul Gandhi hate Indian armed forces: BJP
After the Supreme Court rapped Rahul Gandhi over his alleged derogatory remarks about the Army, the BJP on Monday claimed that the "China guru" and his party hate Indian armed forces and that he is being remote controlled by foreign forces. The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the proceedings against Gandhi before a Lucknow court over his remarks about the Army during his December 2022 Bharat Jodo Yatra. The court, however, censured the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, saying if he is a true Indian, he would not say such a thing. Reacting to the development, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya said in a post on X, "The Supreme Court has once again reprimanded 'China Guru' Rahul Gandhi for making irresponsible statements concerning India's national security and territorial integrity." "Imagine, a leader of the opposition being repeatedly rebuked for speaking such recklessly," he said. Malviya also took on the Congress leader over his recent "dead" economy remark, calling it "a diplomatic disaster on multiple fronts". "His recent 'dead economy' jibe is just the latest in a long series. In doing so, he implicitly admitted that Russia, a long-standing ally, is struggling, while bizarrely endorsing a hostile state like Pakistan as having a robust economy," he said. Echoing US President Donald Trump's criticism of the Indian economy, Gandhi said on August 1 that everybody except Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman know that the country's economy is "dead". Referring to Gandhi's remarks on the surgical strike and Operation Sindoor, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that the Congress leader and his party "hate" Indian armed forces. "Sena ka Apman Congress ki pehchan (Insulting the Congress is the hallmark of the Congress)," he said in a post on X. "Rahul and Congress hate Indian Armed Forces," he charged, adding, "Today SC has slammed him." Another BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said on X that the Supreme Court's poser to Gandhi about his claim exposed him. He said, "Supreme Court asks Rahul Gandhi - 'How did you know that China had occupied land?'" This question by the Supreme Court has not only "exposed" Gandhi, but further got the attention back on the "secret MoU that Gandhi-Vadra family had with China", he said.
