Indian cosmetics brand Colorbar plans IPO in early 2027 after doubling revenue

Time of India19-05-2025
NEW DELHI: Indian beauty brand
Colorbar Cosmetics
is planning to launch its initial public offering (IPO) in early 2027 after doubling its revenue this financial year, its founder and managing director
Samir Modi
told Reuters.
The company's growth has been driven by revamped product designs, new launches, and a steady expansion of retail presence. Colorbar expects revenue to surpass Rs 1,000 crore ($117 million) in the current financial year beginning April 1, buoyed by store upgrades and innovative packaging.
Valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 3,500 crore, the brand aims to utilise IPO proceeds to scale up its
skincare and fragrance
portfolios, and to explore acquisitions, including international ones.
'Colorbar will go public in early 2027,' Modi said, adding that the funds raised would support brand diversification and overseas expansion.
While India's broader consumer market has faced a cost-of-living-driven slowdown, brands targeting affluent consumers like Colorbar have remained resilient, as demand for beauty and personal care items among upper-income groups has continued to rise.
Despite the optimism, Colorbar faces strong competition.

The company, which roughly broke even last year, competes with domestic names such as Sugar Cosmetics and MyGlamm, as well as global players like MAC and Bobbi Brown, owned by Estée Lauder.
Stock market performances of beauty brands such as Nykaa and Honasa Consumer have seen pressure post-listing, with analysts flagging concerns over shrinking profit margins amid stiff competition.
Founded two decades ago, Colorbar offers a wide range of
makeup and skincare products
including lipsticks, foundations, serums, and moisturisers. The company currently operates over 100 exclusive stores and retails through more than 1,200 multi-brand outlets such as Shoppers Stop and Lifestyle.
Modi also revealed plans to open 15–20 new stores this year. Looking ahead, the company expects exports to contribute up to 25% of its total revenue over the next five years, driven by expansion in the United States and the Middle East.

Sebi Plans to Heighten Derivatives Surveillance

Live Events The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is planning to enhance its surveillance system to check manipulation in the derivatives market, chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on Monday. This follows the regulator barring US-based proprietary trader Jane Street from the securities market for allegedly generating illegal profits by manipulating indices through large derivatives positions.'This (Jane Street case) is essentially a surveillance issue,' Pandey said on the sidelines of an event. 'Surveillance mechanisms will be upgraded further to strengthen oversight.' He added that monitoring will continue at Sebi's as well as stock exchange levels.'Manipulative practices can be worked out by different players in different ways,' Pandey said. 'There is no one particular way in which you have to assess. Our regulations clearly mention that manipulative and fraudulent practices are not allowed in the market, and within the regulations, Sebi has all powers to investigate and act.'The chairman appeared to be of the view that such practices aren't widespread. 'There may not be many more such cases,' he said in response to a question on whether other funds may have manipulated the markets in a similar week, Sebi ordered the seizure of what it said were 'illegal gains' made by Jane Street to the tune of Rs 4,844 crore ($570 million) in one of the toughest punitive actions against an international trader. It's likely the largest amount thus impounded by the entities tied to Jane Street Group — JSI Investments, JSI2 Investments, Jane Street Singapore and Jane Street Asia Trading — have been prohibited from dealing in securities, directly or Street, which started its India operations in 2020, made a profit of about $4.3 billion between January 2023 and March 2025, the period under review, on its India regulator's finding is that the NSE's Bank Nifty Index — comprising stocks of India's top dozen lenders — was manipulated in a complex and illegal manner aided by JS Group's immense trading, financial and algorithmic Street would drive up prices with heavy buying in the morning and send them down through a selling spree later in the day, according to Sebi. It also sought to push index levels down with heavy sell orders close to the option expiry, the regulator found that Bank Nifty options alone contributed Rs 17,319 crore, amounting to 40% of the total index option's profits.

Pune witnesses significant boost in office leasing

1 2 3 Pune: The office leasing market in Pune experienced a notable surge in the first half of 2025, continuing with the trend observed in 2024. This increase was primarily fuelled by Global Capability Centers (GCCs), which are the Indian technology hubs of multinational corporations, as they aggressively expanded their operations. The GCCs secured a larger proportion of available office spaces in the city during the initial six months of the year, with a particularly strong increase in activity during the April-June quarter. Reports indicate that the total office spaces leased in Pune from Jan to June 2025 ranged from 38 lakh sqft to 51 lakh sqft. Data from real estate consulting firm CBRE South Asia highlights that nearly 30 lakh sqft of commercial space was leased in Q2 2025 alone. Out of this, an impressive 15 lakh sqft was leased by the GCCs — a substantial jump compared to the 2.5 lakh sqft they rented in the first three months of 2025. Karnataka high court quashes Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor land acquisition notifications & orders fresh award

Bengaluru: In a big relief for several landowners whose plots were acquired for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, Karnataka high court has quashed the acquisition notifications issued between 1998 and 2009. Justice R Devdas passed this order, allowing the petitions filed by P Manjunatha Reddy and others, on the grounds that no award has been passed to date and no part of the petitioners' land was utilised by the respondents for the formation of expressway, interchanges, toll plaza, peripheral road, or link road. "More than 23 years have passed since the notifications for acquisition were issued during the years from 1998 to 2009, and awards have not been passed by the special land acquisition officer (SLAO). Having regard for the plight of landowners who are deprived of the use and occupation of agricultural lands and are losing their livelihoods, this court has no other option than to follow the judgment rendered by the division bench in the Shakunthalamma case," the judge observed. In said case, acquisition was quashed on the grounds that no award was passed even after the lapse of 11 years. The state govt and Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board argued that the top court's order was confined to the petitioners therein. This contention wasn't accepted by the high court.
