Sewayats deny UP minister darshan at Banke Bihari temple amid protest over corridor project
The protesting Sewayats, Goswamis, did not let the minister take darshan of the deity and pulled the curtain down on the idol as soon as Sharma reached in front of it inside the temple.
As per local sources, when the minister arrived at the temple, the Sewayats, who are opposing the Rs 600-crore Banke Bihari Corridor proposed by the state government and approved by the Supreme Court, were prepared to protest his visit. The minister was not even given prasad.
The Goswami community members are hereditary priests who have been engaged in prayers and priestly duties at the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan for centuries.
'With the arrival of the minister, around 15–20 women, belonging to the family of Goswamis, thronged the temple premises wearing black bands. They surrounded the minister and started shouting 'Hai hai' and 'Mantriji go back',' said a local source.
In the wake of the rising build-up, the officials present on the spot escorted the minister out of the temple from Gate Number 4.
The Supreme Court has given the go-ahead for the Banke Bihari Corridor, an ambitious plan to ease crowd congestion and enhance the pilgrimage experience around the shrine.
The state government has brought an ordinance to create a Trust to run the temple and oversee work on the proposed corridor. Significantly, the Supreme Court has allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to use temple funds for land acquisition to build the corridor - a project envisaged to ease crowd pressure around the temple.

Parliament Monsoon Session: After a break of over three and a half months, both houses of Parliament—the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha—are scheduled to convene at 11 AM today for the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The session will be held from July 21 to August 21. This will be the first session of Parliament after Operation Sindoor – India's precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan in the aftermath of th Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The opposition INDIA bloc is ready to corner the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on a host of issues. Opposition parties have insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak on Operation Sindoor and US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered peace between India and Pakistan. They have also demanded a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. As per the official agenda, the Parliament will table 15 bills throughout the session, including discussing the Demands for Grants (Manipur) for the year 2025-26 and introduction, consideration and passing/return of the related Appropriation Bill. Additionally, a resolution seeking the approval of extension of President's rule in Manipur will also be tabled in the session. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government has listed eight new Bills to be introduced in this session, in addition to taking up seven pending bills that were introduced earlier. The government's top agenda item is the Income-Tax Bill, 2025, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Budget Session of Parliameno on February 13 before being referred to a select committee led by BJP MP Baijayant 'Jay' Panda. The Billwas unanimously adopted by the committee on July Panel had made 285 suggestions to the draft legislation. The 3,709-pages long draft law will be presented to the Lok Sabha, on Monday (July 21), on the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament, according to a PTI report. Among the other bills listed for consideration is the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which aims to align the state GST law with the central legislation. Another key bill is the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, which seeks to promote ease of doing business and improve regulatory compliance. The government has also listed a resolution for the extension of President's Rule in Manipur, imposed on February 13, 2025. Retains most of its provisions, including tax rates and offences. Primarily seeks to simplify the language and remove redundant provisions. Parliament Monsoon Session to begin today on a stormy note. Here's what to expect
The session will run until Aigust 21. Both the Houses will, however, be adjourned on August 12, 2025, to reassemble on August 18, 2025, to facilitate Independence Day Celebrations. The Session will provide a total of 21 sittings spread over a period of 32 days. Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said on Sunday that tentatively 17 items of legislative and other business have been identified for being taken up during this session. Rijiju said that the Union government is open to discussing all issues in Parliament, including Operation Sindoor. He, however, said that any debate on the subject has to be held within the laid-down rules and procedures. Opposition parties have insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond on Operation Sindoor, as well as on US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered peace between India and Pakistan. They also demanded a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Rijiju, however, made it clear that the final call on discussions in Parliament will be taken by the Business Advisory Committees of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The government has listed at least 17 bills or introduction and passing in this session of Parliamemt. After delay, Siddaramaiah & Shivakumar offer bagina at Kabini
Mysuru: A day after chief minister Siddaramaiah apparently snubbed his deputy DK Shivakumar for leaving a rally in Mysuru early, the duo jointly offered bagina to Kapila river at Kabini dam in HD Kote taluk Sunday. Though the storage in the dam reached its full capacity last month, the ritual was delayed, drawing criticism.
