Panthers HC Dave Canales provides injury update on WR Hunter Renfrow
One of the early stars of Carolina Panthers training camp remained sidelined on Tuesday. Wide receiver Hutner Renfrow, who continues to deal with a hamstring injury, missed a third straight practice this morning. Head coach Dave Canales was asked about the 29-year-old veteran's status following what was a particularly rainy outing. "He is doin' great," Canales replied. "He's in return-to-play right now with our training department. He's running, he's cutting. I think it's just the load of practice that we're just trying to be smart on, and just get him completely healthy so we can really see him in these games. And I feel really strongly that he's there, but I think it's more of a capacity thing." After missing the entire 2024 campaign due to ulcerative colitis, Renfrow returned to the NFL this past spring on a one-year deal with the Panthers. The former Pro Bowler has shined throughout offseason workouts, and has made quite a bid for the team's initial 53-man roster. Canales was then asked if Renfrow will be available to play in the team's first exhibition game later this week. "We have not made the decision," he stated. "We need to have this practice tomorrow so that we can kind of regroup and see where our group is at, on both sides." The other side was without rookie outside linebacker Nic Scourton, who has also been nursing a mild hamstring injury. Canales said the 2025 second-round pick is in the "same boat" as Renfrow in terms of availability and recovery. Former Panthers QB planning to return to NFL for 2025 season
A former Carolina Panthers quarterback is eyeing another shot in the NFL. According to Rivals High School, Teddy Bridgewater is planning to return for the 2025 campaign. Bridgewater served as the Panthers' starter in 2020. The University of Louisville standout was selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the 32nd overall pick of the 2014 draft. He'd join Carolina in his age-28 season, after a three-year run in Minnesota and a two-year stint for the NFC South rival New Orleans Saints. Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Panthers. He'd go on to start in each of his 15 outings—passing for 3,733 yards, 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Carolina, after just one season of the pact, traded Bridgewater to the Denver Broncos in 2021. He's since picked up additional stops with the Miami Dolphins (2022) and Detroit Lions (2023 and 2024). Rivals High School also notes that Bridgewater is stepping down from his current position as the head football coach at Miami Northwestern High School, his alma mater. Bridgewater was recently suspended by Northwestern due to allegations of providing impermissible benefits to players. Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content.
