THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Clip Teases a Tragic Origin, Galactus, and a Whole Lot of Multiverse Mayhem — GeekTyrant
Some Marvel fans got a surprise taste of The Fantastic Four: First Steps over the weekend, thanks to a clip from the Marvel movie that screened during CCXP in Mexico and may have revealed a major piece of the MCU's bigger puzzle.
According to Inverse (translating coverage from Omelete), the scene shows Marvel's First Family escaping a crumbling planet, one that's apparently in the process of being devoured by none other than Galactus.
As the Silver Surfer chases down their ship, Sue Storm goes into labor, and Johnny Storm fights off the Silver Surfer as Reed Richards steps help his wife deliver the baby. As this is all going on, Ben Grimm pilots the ship into a black hole.
Some fans seem to think that the scene could also confirm a theory that's been making the rounds since we all saw Thunderbolts* post-credits stinger. The theory is that the Fantastic Four team couldn't protect their world from being destroyed by Galactus, which forces them to find a new home, and this is where Earth-616 enters the picture.
Of course, that's all speculation. It's just as likely they're trying to stop Galactus from reaching Earth by intercepting him early. This would place the clip as a second-act low point, where our heroes get a taste of what they're up against, barely escape, and live to fight another day.
It's also worth noting that Marvel chose this scene to showcase at a fan convention. That suggests it's not some big third-act spoiler. More likely, it's a midpoint moment that sets the emotional and cosmic stakes moving forward.
The new Fantastic Four movie unfolds in a slick, retro-futuristic alternate universe that riffs on the 1960s, which is an era where the Fantastic Four are the only known superheroes. Marvel's been pretty open about that setup, and they've confirmed that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will reprise their roles in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars .
It's clear The Fantastic Four: First Steps is aiming for something big, epic stakes with emotional core, all powered by that team chemistry we've seen teased so far.

Brad Pitt Would Act With Tom Cruise Again but Only on the Ground: ‘I'm Not Gonna Hang My Ass Off Airplanes and S— Like That'
Brad Pitt told E! News at the Mexico premiere of 'F1' that he would be interested in acting opposite Tom Cruise again, as long as it doesn't require any death-defying aerial stunts. The two A-listers famously starred together in the 1994 horror drama 'Interview With the Vampire.' Pitt and Cruise never reunited on screen after that. 'Well, I'm not gonna hang my ass off airplanes and shit like that,' Pitt said with a laugh when asked about working with Cruise again. 'So when he does something again that's on the ground, [then yes].' Custom Oakley Eyewear Pitt's 'F1' movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the duo behind Cruise's record-breaking 'Top: Gun Maverick.' Pitt's movie was being developed while Cruise's movie was in post-production. 'Top Gun: Maverick' earned $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office in summer 2022. Kosinski recently told GQ magazine that he originally planned to reunite Cruise and Pitt for his version of 'Ford v Ferrari,' although the studio never approved his budget. James Mangold ended up directing 'Ford v Ferrari' with Christian Bale and Matt Damon instead. 'Tom always pushes it to the limit, but at the same time is super capable and very skilled,' Kosinski said when asked about what would've happened had Cruise starred in 'F1' over Pitt. 'They both have the natural talent for driving. But yeah, I could see Tom maybe scaring us a little bit more.' 'We'd have had a crash,' the film's action vehicle supervisor Graham Kelly quipped to GQ. 'Tom pushes it to the limit. I mean really to the limit. That terrifies me. I mean, I've done loads of 'Mission: Impossibles' with Tom and it's the most stressful experience for someone like me building cars for him, doing stunts with him. Whereas Brad listens and he knows his abilities, and I think he'd be the first to say, 'Yeah, I'm not going to do that.'' Pitt's 'F1' is set to open in theaters June 27. Cruise opened his own summer blockbuster in May with 'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,' in which he dangled from the side of a moving airplane during one stunt. Spider-Man director reveals why he stepped down from making Marvel movie Fantastic Four: "I knew I didn't have what it would've taken to make that movie great"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Jon Watts, the director behind the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy, has revealed why he stepped away from helming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. "I am out of gas," he told The Hollywood Reporter of the realization that led to his decision. "The COVID layer on top of making a giant movie layer, I knew I didn't have what it would've taken to make that movie great. I was just out of steam, so I just needed to take some time to recover. "Everyone at Marvel totally understood," he continued. "They had been through it with me as well, so they knew how hard and draining that experience has been; in the end, very satisfying, but at some point, if you can't do it at the level that you feel like you need to for it to be great, then it's better to not do it." WandaVision's Matt Shakman took over directing duties instead, and the Marvel Phase 6 film is arriving in just a few weeks on July 25. Watts added that "it's going to be totally surreal experience for me to go and watch that movie." Pedro Pascal stars as Reed Richards, with Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. Ralph Ineson will play big bad Galactus, with Julia Garner as his herald the Silver Surfer. Jon Watts Left ‘Fantastic Four' to Get His Groove Back
Before Matt Shakman took over directing duties for the MCU's first Fantastic Four movie, Jon Watts was in charge. The director of the Spider-Man: Home trilogy dropped out in 2022, and his reasons for leaving are completely valid: he had to take a much-needed break. During a recent storytelling class at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts revealed he was basically 'out of gas' by the time he was wrapping Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was shot in the early days of the pandemic. Following the numerous Covid protocols back then and 'trying to make something creative while also trying to make sure that your cast and crew were all safe…was very difficult,' he recalled. Further strain came during postproduction—the supply chain of international VFX vendors suddenly became 'interrupted,' which made it difficult 'to get effects done in a traditional way.' 'I knew I didn't have what it would've taken to make Fantastic Four great. I was just out of steam,' admitted Watts. He commended Marvel for letting him walk away, and noted making big movies like theirs can be 'very satisfying, but at some point, if you can't do it at the level that you feel like you need to for it to be great, then it's better to not do it.' He went on to direct the much smaller Wolfs starring only a handful of actors, then co-created Star Wars: Skeleton Crew with Chris Ford. Watts has every intention of seeing Fantastic Four: First Steps when it hits on July 25, but he was honest in calling it 'totally surreal experience for me to go and watch that movie.'
