CBS is taking fans to the most dreaded place this fall—the DMV.
The new sitcom series, joining current comedies Georgie & Mandy's First Wedding and Ghosts, is a workplace comedy based on a short story by award-winning author Katherine Heiny.
Titled DMV, it takes place at the DMV, obviously, turningeveryday chaos into charm as a crew of lovable misfits tackle bureaucracy, bad attitudes, and busted printers—all with minimum wage and maximum sarcasm.'
It's the job nobody wants, but the hangout you won't want to miss,' the synopsis notes.
While not everyone was convinced that CBS had the next Office on their hands, everyone seemed to be in agreement that they'd be watching for one reason only—Tim Meadows.
If Tim Meadows is in it I'm down,' one wrote, as a second echoed, 'Tim Meadows! Love that guy. Only watching it for him.'
'Tim works a ton but is still somehow criminally underutilized. Hope this show is huge for him!' another stated in a Reddit thread, while someone else emphasized, 'Tim Meadows is long past due for his flowers. I wish him well in this, and I plan to watch.'
'I love Tim. This makes me happy,' another commented, as someone else added, 'It's crazy Tim Meadows hasn't led a sitcom before.'
'Tim Meadows' + 'DMV' and I was already chuckling. PLUS Molly?!?' someone quipped, referring to Molly Kearney, while many more praised the addition of Harriet Dyer's casting after enjoying her role on Colin From Accounts.
There seemed to be plenty of people willing to give it a shot, with comments like, 'A show about the worst place on the planet,' 'Okay this is a good concept,' and 'Looks like a funny show! Can't wait!"
'Surprised a tv network took almost a century to make a sitcom set in a department everyone dreads having to go to... I hope it's funny,' someone else underscored, as another posed a similar question, 'How has it taken this long to get a comedy about the DMV?'
Even real DMV employees chimed in, with one stating, 'Working at the DMV as an examiner....I'm kind of looking forward to this. Always regaling my wife with stories,' and another offering their services, 'I actually work at the DMV, I'd like to be cast and tell you all the stuff that happens..'
While many felt that comedy sitcoms seem to be a 'dying genre," it's clear that there's plenty of interest in finding the next promising one—particularly following CBS's disappointing cancellations of Poppas House and The Neighborhood (airing its final season).
The cast also includes Tony Cavalero, Alex Tarrant and Gigi Zumbado.
DMV will air Monday nights at 8:30 pm, after The Neighborhood and before FBI and CIA.New CBS Show Coming This Fall Has Fans Saying They'll Watch for One Reason Only first appeared on Parade on Jul 9, 2025

What's next for Stephen Colbert after The Late Show ends in 2026?

Comedian Stephen Colbert will be looking for a new job after his run on The Late Show ends in May 2026. CBS announced on Thursday evening that the long-running late night program founded by David Letterman will be retired for alleged cost-cutting measures. However, the unexpected move comes suspiciously just days after Colbert mocked the network's parent company Paramount Global for settling its 60 Minutes lawsuit with President Donald Trump amid its pending merger with Skydance Media. While Colbert will still host the program through next spring, he will exit CBS as one of the biggest free agents in the comedic media space. What could be next on his agenda? A new talk show at another network or streamer? If Colbert wants to go right back to the format he will exit at CBS next May, other media companies may jump quickly on such a well-known figure to come in and set up shop on their dime. Netflix could stand as a legitimate candidate, as co-CEO Ted Sarandos has championed comedy as part of the streamer's content strategy... even that of a controversial ilk (see Chappelle, Dave). Landing Colbert for a project of his choosing would be one of Netflix's biggest catches talent-wise in a while. Netflix could also give him more creative freedom and schedule flexibility that the demands of network television just don't offer. Letterman, his Late Show predecessor, eventually found his next home at Netflix. Could Colbert be next? Apple could be a hypothetical suitor, but after Colbert's close friend Jon Stewart spoke out about conflicts of interest with his now-defunct AppleTV+ show, The Problem, it's not as likely a match in theory. Amazon is another possible home with its expanded streaming options, but real conflicts of interest in Colbert potentially (likely) lampooning company founder Jeff Bezos could arise there, too. Disney already has Jimmy Kimmel at the center of its late night strategy, and Comcast has Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers settled on NBC. Warner Bros. Discovery offers John Oliver on HBO. However, those companies could hypothetically try to court Colbert for some sort of project on some sort of platform. As of now, Netflix would offer Colbert his most natural path to a program of his liking. The streamer hasn't shied away from opinionated comedy in the past, and it's shown its willing to spend in the space on top talent. A Daily Show takeover? Once Jon Stewart's contract runs out on his second run with The Daily Show at the end of the year, Colbert would hypothetically be a natural replacement for the Monday slot that Stewart has reoccupied since 2024. Colbert made his name as one of Stewart's top Daily Show correspondents before starting his own Comedy Central show, a landmark program in Bush/Obama-era political satire. Colbert returning to the network would be a huge boost to its viability, but it would require two gigantic dominoes to fall. First, Colbert would have to be interested in re-upping with the company that just canned his program under suspicious terms. Two, Paramount, post-Skydance merger, would have to show interest in Colbert for the job... or in even keeping The Daily Show going in the first place. It's not impossible Colbert lands here, but it seems much more far-fetched at this point. Colbert pulls a Conan and just does what he wants The most likely path for Colbert if he doesn't want a new home for a talk show is that he pulls a Conan O'Brien and just does whatever he feels like doing. Ever since closing out his TBS talk show, O'Brien has hosted the Oscars, kept his podcast going, acted in an A24 movie and crafted his comedic travel show on HBO Max. He's just open to whatever comes his way. If you'd like to know where you might see Colbert next, our best guess is wherever the wind blows him. He has the cultural cachet to basically do just about whatever he wants, and he can most assuredly self-fund a podcast at worst. He could write a book about J.R.R. Tolkien for all we know. Maybe we get a Strangers with Candy revival? We wouldn't be shocked if Colbert takes his CBS exit as an opportunity to explore his creative chops in new spaces. While he's going to be a hot free agent for other companies, don't be shocked when he freelances.

The critics were wrong. This underrated Ayo Edebiri thriller is now on HBO Max (July 18-20)

Critics don't always get it right. David Fincher's Fight Club, one of the defining movies of the last 30 years, received boos at the Venice Film Festival. Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho divided the audience upon its release due to its controversial subject matter. While Opus does not reach the highs of those aforementioned movies, it did not deserve to flop at the theaters. The Ayo Edebiri-led thriller should find a new audience on HBO Max. While you're there, check out these three underrated movies. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Opus (2025) God bless John Malkovich. The 71-year-old fully embraced being an egotistical and self-indulgent pop star in Opus. That's a credit to writer-director Mark Anthony Green, who cast Malkovich in this transformational role. Wanting to stand out in a crowded media field, journalist Ariel Ecton (Edebiri) receives her big break when she's invited to the compound of Alfred Moretti (Malkovich), a '90s superstar coming out of retirement with a new album. Ariel is startled to learn that Moretti's compound is essentially a cult — a place where the singer's followers can worship him and his music. No one ever said cults were a good thing, and Ariel eventually discovers Moretti's nefarious plans for the future. Malkovich has the time of his life as the eccentric musician. Embrace the weirdness, and you'll be rewarded with a twisty thriller. Stream Opus on HBO Max. Pearl (2022) Mia Goth broke out as a scream queen in X, but Pearl transformed her into a star. Pearl Douglas (Goth), one of the villains in X, receives her origin story in Ti West's prequel. Growing up on a farm, Pearl dreams of becoming a chorus girl or a movie star. However, Pearl can't abandon her paralyzed father and strict mother. Pearl's rage for her parents fuels her sociopathic tendencies, which include killing animals. When a projectionist (Superman's David Corenswet) gives her attention, Pearl sees him as her ticket to stardom. Yet Pearl can't escape her true nature, as her propensity for violence transfers from animals to humans. Stream Pearl on HBO Max. Batman Returns (1992) Superman this. Superman that. How about some love for the Caped Crusader? Admittedly, it's an exciting time for Superman, as James Gunn's feature film about Clark Kent appears to be a successful start to a new shared universe. But let's not forget that Batman has the best solo movies for DC characters. While Batman and The Dark Knight receive most of the adulation from fans, don't sleep on Michael Keaton's second outing as Bruce Wayne, Batman Returns. In this sequel, Batman faces three new foes: Oswald Cobblepot (Danny DeVito), aka the Penguin; Max Shreck (Christopher Walken), a corrupt businessman; and Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer), aka Catwoman. Keaton remains as stoic as ever, but it's Pfeiffer who steals the show. Stream Batman Returns on HBO Max.

This Off-strip Las Vegas Hotel Is Getting a $200-million Transformation—Take an Exclusive Look Inside

Green Valley Ranch, located 12 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip, is undergoing a $200 million transformation. The resort plans to renovate all 493 of its guest rooms and suites in phases, with completion scheduled for 2026. Highlights include analog alarm clocks, curated artwork, and layered textures in the guest rooms, and oversized soaking tubs, hand-finished woodwork, and built-in entertainment systems in the suites. On the eve of its 25th birthday, Green Valley Ranch is undergoing a sweeping $200 million transformation that will touch nearly every corner of the resort. Located in Henderson, about 12 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip, the beloved hotel opened in 2001 as a refined alternative to the Strip's spectacle. Earlier this summer, the resort embarked on a renovation of all 493 guest rooms and suites, a process that will continue in phases through 2026. The redesign, led by Station Casinos' in-house team in partnership with Avenue Interior Design, brings a modern perspective to the resort's Mediterranean-inspired roots. Deluxe rooms now feel more residential, with layered textures, sculptural walnut lighting, and custom stone finishes. Caramel tweeds and shagreen leathers lend the spaces a tailored, lived-in feel, while thoughtful touches, such as analog alarm clocks and curated artwork by Zoe Bois, add character. In the suites, the upgrades are even more pronounced. The West Tower's 37 reimagined suites introduce elevated materials, including ivory onyx, burnished brass, and hand-finished woodwork. Spa-inspired bathrooms feature oversized soaking tubs and rainfall showers framed in marble. High-tech comforts include smart TVs, automated lighting, and entertainment systems integrated into custom millwork. Several suites offer balconies or patios overlooking the pool, and some include butler service and upgraded amenities such as Dyson hair dryers and Agavia toiletries. Crowning the suite collection is the two-bedroom 2,790-square-foot Strip Suite, which is more like a private residence than a hotel penthouse, complete with a rooftop terrace with panoramic views, a striking red tiger onyx bar, a butler's kitchen, and curated design pieces from Daniel Fine Art and The Future Perfect. The resort has also transformed its public spaces over the last few years. Drop Bar, which reopened in late 2021, is now a sparkling focal point on the casino floor with a dramatic chandelier and sweeping views of the resort's grounds. In spring 2023, the eight-acre backyard pool area was refreshed with new cabanas, upgraded daybeds, and soft-toned finishes that highlight the garden-like layout. That same year, Polaris Bar debuted along the casino promenade, offering a circular gathering space with sports screens, bartop gaming, and globally-inspired cocktails. Green Valley Ranch also doubled down on high-stakes gaming by expanding its High Limit Table Games room in late 2023 and refreshing its High Limit Slots room in early 2024. The culinary lineup has seen its own glow-up with the addition of Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill in March of this year. Helmed by chefs and brothers Eric and Bruce Bromberg, the restaurant features a wood-accented dining room, a 13-seat sushi counter, and a menu that spans pristine sashimi, hot Japanese specialties, and its signature fried chicken with wasabi honey. The space joins a lineup of local favorites like Hank's Fine Steaks & Martinis, Bottiglia Cucina & Enoteca, and Pizza Rock by Tony Gemignani. Once the current phase wraps, the renovation will continue with updates to the East Tower, South Lobby, and the resort's meeting and convention spaces. Guest rooms in the renovated West Tower will be available beginning October 1.
