At UN meet, Nazaha chief reiterates Saudi Arabia's determination to fight corruption
VIENNA — Mazin Al-Kahmous, president of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), reiterated Saudi Arabia's determination to fight corruption. Leading the Saudi delegation to the 16th session of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) meetings at the United Nations office in Vienna, he said that Saudi Arabia has adopted a comprehensive institutional approach to promoting integrity and fighting corruption. The session, which started on June 16, will conclude on June 20.
In his speech, Al-Kahmous expressed his gratitude to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the session's organizers for their efforts in facilitating the exchange of experiences and initiatives aimed at strengthening preventive measures to combat corruption.
The Nazaha chief affirmed that the Kingdom, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and the directives of its political leadership, has adopted a comprehensive institutional approach to promoting integrity and fighting corruption. He noted that this approach is embodied in Nazaha, an independent body vested with broad powers to carry out its mandate and fulfill its responsibilities with impartiality.
"The Kingdom's participation in this session reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing international anti-corruption initiatives and engaging with the global community to foster integrity and transparency. It also aims to benefit from the experiences of states, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, and to exchange expertise in line with the provisions of UNCAC and consistent with Saudi Vision 2030, which identifies governance, transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption as core pillars," he added.

Large Celebrations Syrians are celebrating the new visual identity. The announcement witnessed wide celebrations as Syrians took to the streets in the capital and in provinces to celebrate the Syrian unity. 'Today's celebration marks the identity of Syria and its people in their new historic phase,' Al-Sharaa added. Al-Sharaa also gifted luxurious green velvet boxes containing the golden eagle emblem, a green T-shirt, a cap, as well as a pencil, to those attending the ceremony. Syrians are celebrating the new visual identity. Overall, the new emblem is an integral part of a new political path coming after the fall of the previous regime in 2024, unleashing new horizons for Syrian unity, despite ongoing economic and political challenges. Syria Ready to Cooperate with US to Reimplement 1974 Disengagement Deal with Israel
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani said on Friday that Syria was ready to cooperate with the US in order to reimplement the 1974 disengagement agreement with Israel, according to Al Arabiya. Return to Disengagement Deal Al-Shaibani's statement comes after a phone call with his American Counterpart Marco Rubio. During the call, Al-Shaibani expressed Syria's 'aspiration to cooperate with the United States to return to the 1974 disengagement agreement.' In May, US President Donald Trump met Syria's Interim President Ahmed Al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia and urged him to normalize ties with Israel. Aspiration for Diplomatic Ties On Monday, Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said that his country is 'interested' in establishing diplomatic ties with its neighbors Lebanon and Syria, according to Reuters. 'Israel is interested in expanding the Abraham Accord circle of peace and normalization,' Saar said at a news conference. Crucially, Al-Sharaa confirmed indirect talks with Israel to reduce tensions. Moreover, Al-Sharaa has repeatedly said Damascus does not seek involvement into any conflict with its neighbors. Therefore, he urged the international community to press on Israel to halt its attacks on Syria. Golan Heights Will Be out of Discussion Meanwhile, Saar stressed that the occupied Golan Heights 'will remain part of Israel' under any possible peace agreement with Syria. 'In any peace agreement, the Golan will remain part of the State of Israel,' Saar stated. In 1981, Israel annexed the Golan Heights after taking over most of the area from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. On Wednesday, Syrian state media described the statements about normalizing relations with Israel as 'premature', after an Israeli official welcomed diplomatic ties with Damascus, according to AFP. 'Statements concerning signing a peace agreement with the Israeli occupation at this time are considered premature,' state TV reported an unidentified official source as saying. The source also said that the possibility of negotiations over a new peace deal was not possible until Israel fully adhered to the 1974 disengagement agreement and withdrew from the areas it has penetrated.
