India camp rocked by injury crisis: How team combination could change after Nitish Reddy, Arshdeep Singh blow
Team India's preparations for the fourth Test against England in Manchester have taken a big hit with multiple injury concerns. The BCCI confirmed on Monday that all-rounder of the remaining two matches due to a left knee injury.
Meanwhile, pacer Arshdeep Singh has also been ruled out of the Old Trafford Test after suffering a thumb injury while bowling in the nets at Beckenham. The fourth Test at Old Trafford, starting July 23, is a must-win for India, who trail 1-2 in the five-match series after losing at Lord's.

The injuries have created a major selection headache for the team management, including captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir. According to The Indian Express, pacer Akash Deep, who starred with a 10-wicket haul in the second Test, is struggling with a groin niggle and remains doubtful.
Shardul Thakur back in contention
The injury list has forced India to rethink their playing XI. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar were crucial for balancing the side, and with Nitish out, Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur is likely to return. He played the series opener at Leeds but was dropped after a modest show with bat and ball.
Arshdeep's injury will also put extra pressure on team management, who may now have to look to Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to deliver for the remainder of matches. Meanwhile, uncapped pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the squad and may come in to replace Akash Deep.
There is also a possibility of Kuldeep Yadav getting his first game of the tour. However, that would leave India weak in the pace department, as the team already has two spin-bowling all-rounders - Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. One of them might have to sit out to accommodate a specialist spinner.

However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet, and the final playing XI is likely to be revealed right before the fourth Test. India are expected to make at least two forced changes to replace Nitish and Akash.
India's predicted playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Big Debut For India In 4th Test Confirmed? Report Makes 'Gautam Gambhir' Claim
Anshul Kamboj has emerged as a surprise pace option for the Indian cricket team ahead of the fourth Test match against England and the training session at Old Trafford provided a huge hint regarding his possible debut. Kamboj was included in the squad after India suffered a massive injury crisis following the third Test. Arshdeep Singh was ruled out of the fourth Test match while Akash Deep also struggled during practice. According to a report, Kamboj bowled for more than 45 minutes in the nets with the new ball and was even spotted with multiple discussions with head coach Gautam Gambhir. As per Times of India, Kamboj also constantly had conversations with senior pacers - Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah - during the training session. During his spell, Kamboj showed consistency with the new ball against top-order batters - Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Shubman GIll. Former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has endorsed uncapped Anshul Kamboj, who mirrors the traits of Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah, to earn a spot in the final XI ahead of Prashid Krishna for the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England in Manchester. Injury struck the India camp and left them bereft of the opportunity to field their balanced XI at Old Trafford. Akash Deep has potentially been ruled out of the contest as he is nursing a groin niggle while Arshdeep Singh will sit out of the fourth Test after sustaining an injury on his hand. Realising the gravity of the situation, Kamboj was sent to Manchester to add depth to India's depleted pace attack. Debates and discussions have sparked about India's third seam bowling option, with Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah bound to spearhead the pace attack. For Ashwin, Kamboj's "cracking" form in the domestic circuit makes him a better fit to fill the vacant spot, despite Prasidh's presence as India looks to turn around the 1-2 deficit in the series. The 24-year-old's knack for bowling long spells, his wrist position, and impeccable seam movement make him ideal for the English surface. "If you are going to bring Anshul Kamboj into the XI, I am telling you this is a serious bowling attack. People will say that Anshul will play his first Test. He hasn't played in England, but he was there in the A tour. He has been in cracking form in first-class cricket," Ashwin said on YouTube.

India fourth Test playing XI: Sai Sudarshan likely to return, Karun Nair might be dropped; Anshul Kamboj to make Test debut
India is likely to play Sai Sudarshan and drop Karun Nair for the crucial fourth Test at Manchester. This is the second time in the series that India have changed their No. 3. In the opening game at Leeds, Sudarshan played one-drop while Nair batted down in the order. For the second and third Tests, Sudarshan sat out and Nair played No.3. Now it seems it is back to Sudarshan with Nair unlikely to make the cut. The two other changes in the Manchester Test playing XI have been forced upon the team management because of injuries. In all likelihood, Akash Deep's place will be taken by the Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj and Nitish Reddy's replacement will be Shardul Thakur. This means India, like at Lord's and Birmingham, will go with six bowling options. Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Shardul being the all-rounder, and the three specialist pacers being Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Kamboj. Meanwhile, at the Old Trafford ground on match eve, Sudarshan showed signs that he was returning to the playing XI. Despite the cover on the pitch, the Tamil Nadu batsman did his visualisation drill. He even circled the 22 yards and closely observed the greenish-brown surface. ALSO READ | After three Tests of individual achievements, visitors face hour of reckoning Sudarshan, in the only Test he has played, made 0 and 30 and was dropped because of the team management's combination calculations. The left-hander lost his place to spin-all-rounder Washington Sundar. Nair, promoted up the order in Sudarshan's absence, has the following scoring sequence on this tour – 0, 20, 31, 26, 40, and 14. Actually, the Indian captain Shubman Gill had hinted that India might persist with Karun for the Manchester game. 'We think Karun is batting well. The first match he didn't really play at his number (batted at 6). It's difficult when a player is making a comeback in a series like this, you know. But I don't think there's been any issue with his batting. Sometimes it's also about getting that click, you know. Once you're able to make your 50, then you're able to get back into your zone and get some big runs. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened for him so far,' he said. Did the captain have a rethink after watching the pitch, which he did much after his press conference? Was this decision taken with the consideration that this was a virtual must-win game and to take those mandatory 20 wickets, India would need an extra bowler? Shubman, at the press conference around the noon time, said the pitch would have bounce and speed. Ravi Shastri, on a podcast, said, 'This pitch will have more bounce than others from what one's heard. If the weather is not that hot…'. But the local input was very different. Veteran English international and TV expert David Bumble Lloyd downrightly dismissed the 'lively pitch' narrative. Lloyd would say: 'Very, very flat. No pace, no grass.' On the same podcast, former England captain Michael Vaughan would give his take. 'The pace has gone since Old Trafford… (changed the axis).'

India Women Create History, Become 2nd Team In The World After Australia To...
Last Updated: India women have their England tour by winning their bilateral ODI series 2-1 with captain Harmanpreet Kaur scoring a hundred. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led India have rounded off their tour of England by creating more history. On Wednesday, the tourists produced another impressive performance to beat their hosts by 13 runs in the third ODI and secure a series-winning 2-1 lead. Harmanpreet led the batting effort with a brilliant century, a masterful 102 off 84 that propelled India to a big total o 318/4 in 50 overs at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. The India captain belted 14 fours during her stay. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed with a quick fifty, a fine 45-ball 50, while Richa Ghosh provided the fireworks with a blistering 18-ball 38*. England fought well with their skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt matching her India counterpart in effort but missing out on a century by two runs. She struck 98 off 105 as England were bowled out for 305 in 49.5 overs. India thus became the second team in history to win back-to-back ODI series against England in England. During their last bilateral ODI series in England (in 2022), India stormed to a 3-0 clean sweep. During her innings, Harmanpreet also completed 1000 runs in ODIs in England and became the second Indian after the legendary Mithali Raj to do so. The 36-year-old achieved the milestone in what was her 30th ODI on English soil. She has three centuries and five fifties in these contests. Mithali scored 1555 runs in 41 ODIs for India and was the first non-English batter to score 1000 or more ODI runs in England. Harmanpreet also completed 4000 ODI runs and is the third India batter after Mithali (7,805) and Smriti Mandhana (4,588) to do so. What's Next For India? India will now return to action in September when they play host to Australia in a three-match bilateral ODI series. It will be followed by the Women's ODI World Cup which India are hosting. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 07:22 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
