Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism Showcases Industrial Strength at ‘Make it in the Emirates' 2025

Hi Dubai19-05-2025
Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) will spotlight the emirate's fast-growing manufacturing sector at Make it in the Emirates 2025, taking place from May 19 to 22 at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi.
As one of the UAE's leading industrial events, the forum gathers key government entities, investors, and manufacturers to drive forward national industrial and export objectives. DET's participation aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to position Dubai as a global hub for advanced manufacturing and future-ready industrial investment.
The Dubai Pavilion will feature major industrial stakeholders including Dubai Industrial City, National Industries Park, Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority, Dubai Chambers, and Dubai South. Together, they will showcase the emirate's integrated approach to industrial growth, highlighting business incentives, export support, and world-class infrastructure.
In 2024, Dubai's manufacturing sector recorded AED28.3 billion in GDP and attracted AED5.8 billion in foreign direct investment—more than double the previous year. DET will present key initiatives at the forum, including the Export Assistance Programme, the Elite Buyer Programme, and the Industry Friendly Power Policy, which supports green and cost-efficient energy use in industrial sectors.
Hadi Badri, CEO of the Dubai Economic Development Corporation, said Dubai's manufacturing rise reflects years of strategic planning, public-private collaboration, and smart regulation. 'This is a market where manufacturers can innovate, scale, and export with confidence,'
he noted.
With over 1,100 Greenfield projects and a record AED52.3 billion in FDI last year, Dubai's industrial sector continues to attract global attention. The emirate's presence at Make it in the Emirates reinforces its commitment to economic diversification and global competitiveness.

DAFZ Partners with China's Zhuanzhuan Group to Establish Regional HQ in Dubai

Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ), part of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China's Zhuanzhuan Group, one of the country's top platforms for secondhand goods. The agreement marks the group's first regional presence outside China, with its Middle East headquarters to be established in DAFZ. The collaboration supports Dubai's ambitions to become a global leader in sustainable trade and circular economy practices, in alignment with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. Zhuanzhuan's facility in Dubai will manage an end-to-end secondhand supply chain, including recycling, inspection, classification, and packaging, with operational support from DIEZ across logistics, customs, and distribution. Zhuanzhuan Group, which boasts over 400 million registered users and operates more than 960 physical stores across 80 cities in China, is known for championing eco-conscious business models and achieving 4.1 million tons in carbon emission reductions through sustainable practices. Amna Lootah, Director General of DAFZ, noted that the partnership highlights Dubai's appeal to international innovators and strengthens its position as a trade gateway connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. Wang Su, Corporate Vice President of Zhuanzhuan, echoed this sentiment, calling Dubai an ideal launchpad for regional expansion thanks to its strategic location and infrastructure. The MoU also includes a shared commitment to developing joint research and policy papers on circular economy trends and secondhand trade. As part of the agreement, DAFZ will facilitate Zhuanzhuan's setup and integration, while the company will align with regional compliance standards and bring in new opportunities from its global supply network. This partnership is expected to catalyse new business models in the circular economy and reinforces Dubai's position as a hub for sustainable, innovation-led global commerce. DUBAI REEF Initiative Boosts Marine Life and Biodiversity in Local Waters

DUBAI REEF, a large-scale, purpose-built reef project, is already demonstrating measurable ecological benefits in Dubai's coastal waters. Underwater footage from the project's proof-of-concept site reveals an increase in marine activity, with growing habitats and a surge in fish populations. Surveys recorded a notable rise across 15 native species, such as groupers, snappers, and barracuda. The initiative has achieved a 10% boost in marine biodiversity and an eightfold increase in fish biomass, highlighting its early success in restoring marine ecosystems. Launched in 2024, the initiative aims to deploy 20,000 reef modules across 600 km² by 2027, with 39% of the modules already fabricated and 3,660 deployed so far. DUBAI REEF is structured around three pillars: Marine Habitat Restoration, Marine Life Rehabilitation, and Marine Conservation Research. The initiative is part of the Dubai Can sustainability movement and was launched under the direction of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. It is powered by a public-private partnership that includes DET, DECCA, DP World, Dubai Chambers, Nakheel, PCFC, and Emirates. DUBAI REEF also supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Climate Action (SDG 13), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Partnerships (SDG 17).
