2026 4-Star Quarterback Flips From Penn State to SEC School
Yet another major misstep has befallen the Nittany Lions in their 2026 recruiting cycle. 4-star QB Peyton Falzone, a Pennsylvania guy who has worked with Penn State staff multiple times and has visited then a total of 14 times, flipped his pledge to the Auburn Tigers on Thursday. A lifelong Penn State fan, Falzone was the No. 18 quarterback in the class and the sixth ranked athlete from Pennsylvania. This shocking news comes just days after the Nittany Lions missed out on several in-state recruits to fellow blueblood and potential recruiting rival Notre Dame.
The most stunning aspect of Falzone's sudden change of plans stems from the fact that he grew up a Nittany Lions fan himself and had really impressed coaches amongst the staff with his talents. He had committed to them April 12th and had been to multiple Penn State specific camp workouts, including their White Out camp, where he exclusively worked with QB coach Danny O'Brien.
What might have dissuaded the 4-star QB from fully committing to the Nittany Lions may have been how they chose to approach him. They did not officially treat him as a recruit of interest until the spring. Add in the fact that California four-star Troy Kuhn ins already amongst the class's midst and you can definitely explain Falzone's decision despite his heavy ties to the state and program.
Despite making recent strides in the past few days in terms of recruitment, Penn State find themselves with an in-state conundrum that they have not yet been able to address in this recruiting cycle. Falzone is their latest reminder of their consequent failures.

Penn State basketball welcomes veteran forward transfer
Penn State basketball has officially added a new player to the roster for the 2025-26 season. On Saturday, the school officially announced the addition of Saša Ciani, who previously played college basketball with the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and Xavier. Ciani is coming off his sophomore season with UIC, where he played in 27 games and started 21 games. In that playing time, Ciani averaged 9.9 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game. He ranked second in the Missouri Valley Conference with his rebounds per game. As a freshman, Ciani played in 31 games for Xavier, including five starts. Prior to beginning his college basketball career, Ciani played in the ABA League in Slovenia. The Slovenia native averaged 11.1 points per game and played in the U-20 European Championships in 2022. He also appeared on the Slovenian National Team in an exhibition in the 2023 FIBA World Cup European qualifiers, where he was a teammate of Luka Dončić. 'We're excited to get Saša on campus and welcome him to our Penn State basketball family," head coach Mike Rhoades said ina. released statement. Penn State makes NHL draft history with first-round pick
For the second time this week, Penn State made some draft history. Within days of having its first NBA first-round draft pick, the Nittany Lions now have the first NHL draft first-round pick in draft history. The hockey program's latest bit of history was achieved Friday when the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Penn State's Jackson Smith with the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. There is a slight caveat to this piece of history, of course. Smith. a defenseman, is an incoming freshman for the Penn State program and has yet to lace up his skates in a Penn State hockey uniform. Smith committed to the Penn State program in June and will join the program this fall. He will join Penn State program, coming off its first trip to the NCAA Frozen Four and will continue to raise expectations for the program moving forward. Smith played the last two seasons in the Western Hockey League and recorded 54 points in 68 games. He has recently played on Team Canada at the IIHF U18 World Championships and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Smith is the 17th player from Penn State to be selected in the NHL draft as the program continues to rise in national prominence in a relatively short period of time. Penn State's season ended with a 3-1 loss to NCAA hockey blueblood Boston University in the semifinal round of the Frozen Four. Penn State upset No. 3 overall seed Maine in the first round of the tournament by a score of 5-1 and advanced to the Frozen Four with a 3-2 victory over UConn in the Allentown regional.
